"I know very little about some of the people on my friends list. Some people I know relatively well. But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's Parker ...she likes money and cereal." I'd love it if everyone who's friended me did this. (Yes, even you people who I know really well.) Then post this in your own journal [only if you feel inclined]. In return, ask me anything you'd like to know about me and I'll give you an answer*."

Date: 2013-01-29 04:28 pm (UTC)I collect dragons (is anyone surprised by this?) and I have two full curio cabinets full, except for one shelf that holds all eleven of my Doctor Who figures as well as my Jack and Ianto figures.
I also love cats although I'm not currently the servant of one. :)

I have a cat-child named Maximus. He's a huge black beast with 6 toes on each front paw. He rules my life!
My biggest passion is my beloved Sea Shepherd Conservation Society & I'm an on-shore volunteer, but someday I'd like to sail on one of our four ships.
My favourite animals are cats, meerkats, wolves, whales, and harp seals. I love the big cats, too.
I'm second-generation Irish-American and I'm currently considering getting a Celtic tattoo.
My style goddesses are Amy Pond from DW, Alice Cullen from Twilight, and Frankie Paige from the film Stigmata.
I'm hopelessly in love with Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson, and Gabriel Byrne. I will watch anything they're in.
I'm a neat-freak that would put Ianto to shame. ;p
I love the heat & hate the cold.
I speak French.
I'm a psychic with no control over my "gift." Third one in my family.

I love the paranormal, too. Just not my current ghostly housemates. I really need to stop shrugging it off & phone a priest already. ;p

Date: 2013-01-29 09:48 pm (UTC)I'd like to be a wolf or an Eagle (although I don't like heights.) Maybe a horse. I'd be a dragon, but they're a bit rare these days. I'm rather dragonish, I even have a hoard!
I had to take Latin at school for a year. I was so bad at it, I scored 3% in a test =S

Date: 2013-01-29 09:15 pm (UTC)When I was in my teens we'd spend a week in the Lakes every October during half-term. My last holiday was when I was 18, since then I haven't been well enough to travel. I would have liked to explore more od Britain but... *shrugs* That's life I guess.

Date: 2013-01-29 09:43 pm (UTC)I hated being driven over the steep passes in the Lakes. Mum, my sister and I usually got out and walked - we weren't convinced dad could drive over them safely, lol! I would be far too scared to drive them myself, even I could still go up to the Lakes!

Date: 2013-01-29 06:08 pm (UTC)I share an apartment with my coworker, and long to live in England. I'm an occasional actress, an occasional dramaturg, an occasional editor, and an occasional writer/poet. Most of those things haven't happened in awhile, because work.
So. Hi!

Date: 2013-01-29 08:07 pm (UTC)I like lists, and I speak in parenthetical expressions.
My biggest fandom loves are Ghostbusters ( Egon/Janine is my number one OTP), the Monkees, and the first two seasons of Torchwood.
I studied French for six years and plan to relocate to Provence, assuming my current career shift pays off so I don't have to be so tied down. If not--I'll just retire there.
Oh, and I talk too much.

Date: 2013-01-29 09:37 pm (UTC)I love Ghostbusters and the Monkees, (especially Daydream Believer) and I used to breed and show Zebra Finches.
I have no talent for languages whatsoever and barely scraped through in French at school.
I do almost survive on yogurt (in a variety of flavours) since there are an awful lot of things I can't eat. I am not a good cook, I usually burn things.
It would appear we are rivals - I'm a Bears fan! (I do like Green Bay though, when they're not playing against my Bears!)
I make lists all the time. I think I sometimes even have lists of my lists and I prefer to keep my books and CDs in alphabetical order.
I like a lot of different crafts and I tend to be untidy because I have so many things on the go at the same time.
I read obsessively - as soon as I finish one book I have to start another.

Date: 2013-01-29 11:03 pm (UTC)I love to go on vacation. I hope to make a trip across the pond later this year. I have a gay best friend who I sometimes run my smut by to make sure I got things right. he is also my sometimes travel companion who will be making the trip with me this year.
I got into writing almost twenty years ago and have been doing it on and off since then.
In university I took a set design class where as my final project I had to design and build a scale set for A Midsummers Night Dream.

Date: 2013-01-30 02:22 am (UTC)Last year my father died of a prolonged illness. Before that my husband took his own life, so at times I can be very melancholy and sad. I bounce in and out of commenting/reading mode, depending on my state of mind. I'll often force myself to read/comment as a way of trying to engage with life outside my gloomy thoughts.
Before sorrow swamped me I used to write in the Harry Potter fandom. I've written hundreds and hundreds of drabbles, and some stories archived at AO3.
My son actually introduced me to Torchwood.

Date: 2013-01-30 12:14 pm (UTC)My dad died just over a year ago. We weren't terribly close but I'm still having trouble getting used to the idea.
I'm aiming to write at least 100 drabbles this year, but that's all I'm writing at the moment. SAD has sapped my motivation, it's always worst in January/February.
I used to be very shy, but now I chat to everyone. It can be difficult to shut me up.
Due to health problems, I don't get out much so the internet is my lifeline. I was very lonely before I got online, but I feel blessed now for having met so many wonderful people.

Date: 2013-01-30 12:19 pm (UTC)And I forgot to ask my questions about you: do you have pets? And do you really knit badly and what do you like knitting?
no subject
Date: 2013-01-30 03:57 pm (UTC)I do knit, quite well in fact. My user name came from an earlier pet, Frizzle the Badly-Knitted pig, who really did look like a scrap of tangled knitting when I got him.
I've knitted loads of things over the past 30-odd years, starting with baby clothes when I discovered I was going to be an auntie back when I was 18. The little bundle of joy is now 32 and over 6ft tall, lol! I've knitted a lot of sweaters for various family members, even more for myself, and several soft toys in the past. I prefer knitting sweaters or baby clothes (I love the lacy designs and the tiny sizes). I'm not good at fairisle, or any knitting which requires changing colours. I can do it, but I tend to knit it too tight so I have to go very slowly to avoid that. I've made quite a few sweaters with pictures on the front, which I did by knitting plain stockinette sweaters then using a technique called swiss darning to embroider the picture so it looks knitted. One of these days I'll get around to posting photos of those. One design I've done five times! It's a Tiger's head which I really love. I did it twice for my sister and three times for myself on different coloured sweaters.
Do you knit or do any other craft?

Date: 2013-01-30 03:49 am (UTC)I teach Ancient History at high school and I love my students because they are always teaching me things.
I love studying anything, according to my brother I will be a very "wise corpse", I have also a BA in English Literature and Cinema as a foreign language. I love languages and I learn quite easily, I speak English, German and Italian.
I love traveling, I backpacked from Ireland to Pakistan alone in three different ocassions, I feel "home" quickly if the place is nice, I lived in Bournmeouth for six months twenty years ago.
I love writing, and even though English is not my mother tongue, I cannot write in Spanish :)
My heart belongs to Hephaestion Amyntoros, who was Alexander The Great's lover, he has been part of my life since forever due to my Greek great grandparents. I used to speak Greek when I was a child but when my greatgrandmother died, it was banned. My name is Greek, it means LadyLight and my daughter's is Sofia and it means Wisdom.
I love traditions a lot and keep as many as I can, I am also teaching them to my daughter.
I love animals, I am owned by two female Golden Retrievers and two street cats, I have two big frogs alive and I collect frog toys.
I work better alone and I always check when I work in a group, it is BAD but I cannot help it ;)
hope you don't freak out too much, J

Date: 2013-01-30 12:27 pm (UTC)I'm useless at languages. I've never been outside the UK and due to health problems I don't go out very much, so I no longer travel. I wish I could have seen more of Britain because this little island is beautiful.
I hated history at school, but have grown to love is since. I'm also interested in folklore and Mythology. At ther same time, I'm a huge fan of science-fiction and mostly read SF and fantasy novels. I like horror too, but most recent horror novels just don't seem very scary and are often boring.
I'm a perfectionist and always feel it's better to do things myself, then I know they've been done right, lol!
I love frogs and newts, we have both in our garden pond, and I often have to rescue our frogs from next door's cats. I've had lots of pets, but at the moment there's just on rabbit (Misty) and two tortoises which we've had for about 25 years.
I'll be 51 in three weeks! In my head though, I'm still no more than 20.
I read obsessively and collect crystals and semi-precious gemstones. I think I must be part dragon - I can't resist sparkly things!

Date: 2013-01-30 11:34 pm (UTC)Also, when my friend lent me her John Barrowman biography, I thought it might be boring to start right at the beginning, you know, with the "I was born and raised" part, so I just flipped it open at any page and jumped into it right in the middle. Only then I figured out that his biography jumps around from story to story anyway, and is not in a linear order ;)

Date: 2013-01-31 12:13 am (UTC)I'm the only person I know who reads reference books from cover to cover, including the introduction. I read constantly and usually have several books on the go at once. Right now I have 4 - The Burning Soul, a book of short stories, a graphic novel and an encyclopaedia of animal life. I read before I go to sleep, so I like to have a choice. =P

Date: 2013-01-31 12:19 am (UTC)And I read several books at the same time as well! I have a small one to carry around for my way to work, and a thick one at home. At the moment I listen in bed to the reading of JB of "Hollow Earth", since I was at the Cumbrae island when we were in Glasgow and now can picture it all better. I shall post pictures from that day.
What exactly is an reference book? I have no idea.

Date: 2013-01-31 12:33 am (UTC)It's been a while since I read a Stargate novel. I read some really good ones, but then I started reading one that was pretty boring and I didn't even get halfway through. It's in storage at the moment, packed away in a box in a rented warehouse with most of my other books ever since we had burst pipes that wrecked my room. We still need to redecorate before I can get all my books back, so obviously I had to do the sensible thing and buy more books!
It's gone midnight, so 'd better head for bed. I was supposed to be having an early night, lol!

Date: 2013-02-02 04:36 pm (UTC)Yeah, I really liked the earlier Stargate novels, but ever since they started to use professional authors instead of former fanfiction authors, it's just not the same anymore. "Valhalla" was so bad! And some of the others were not much better, also. I stopped buying them a while ago, also because I cannot order them at Amazon anymore, as they are only E-books or print-on-demand. I plan to buy at least Sabine's new book, she always was great. And I still read the thread at Gateworld where they talk about the books, and one of the newer ones seems to be recommendable as well. We'll see.
LOL that happens to me all the time!
