Apologies for skipping Fic of the Week (or Fortnight) last time - it was due to me not having time to read the fic. Life keeps getting in the way of fandom.

So, quickly, I'll offer you the new selection, an 11-parter from August 2008.

Frozen is by [livejournal.com profile] sunstar77 and includes spoilers up to and including the episode Combat. It's a teamfic, I thought that might be a nice change, the whole team trying to solve something. Plus, the wintry feel fits my mood.

Summary: The team must discover the cause of the snowstorm burying Cardiff before it becomes a frozen wasteland.

Here's a link to the LAST part - because it has links to all the other parts so it's easier for me than listing links for 11 parts.

That's all for now, see you in two weeks. Happy reading!

Here we are with the second of this year's fortnightly posts. I didn't quite get through the last one in time, I have one chapter left to read but my writing has been getting in the way. So many deadlines! Nevertheless, I will catch up at some point!

This time the fic is PTSD: Post Torchwood Stress Disorder by [livejournal.com profile] thefannishwaldo, a 7-parter from November 2007. This is one I've wanted to read for a long while, but just never got around to.

Summary: It's been two and a half years since Canary Wharf. It's been a year since Lisa.  And Jack is just now realizing what the real toll has all been on Ianto and the other survivors of Torchwood One.  Now he needs to fix a big thing done badly before anyone else dies.

The fallout from the Canary Wharf battle interests me. So few survivors, but what became of them? Maybe this will provide some answers.

Part 1 is here on LJ    Part 2     Part 3     Part 4     Part 5     Part 6     Part 7

Or read it here on AO3

Well, that's your lot for this time, hope you enjoy it! Happy reading!

Happy New Year everyone! (Just in case anyone missed my New Year post!)

Here we are with the first of the fortnightly (every two weeks) Fic of the Week posts for 2015. I toyed with changing the name to Fic of the Fortnight, but it just didn't seem right, lol!

This time, I've chosen More Richer Than My Tongue by [livejournal.com profile] sanginmychains, an 8-part fic from July 2008.

Summary: This fic is my exploration of the Jack/Ianto relationship post-Cyberwoman. The boys have some issues, to say the least, so I sent them away from the world, stuck them in a tent, and rained on them.

Part 1 is here.

Parts are linked.

And that's it! Anyone who wants to read this now has 14 days to do so before I post links to another fic for our reading pleasure =)

Happy reading, everybody!

Here we are, the final Fic of the Week post for 2014! Starting next week, I will be doing Fic of the Week every two weeks so that I can rec something a bit longer and still have a chance of reading it before it's time for the next post. I've had so little time available recently that I've fallen way behind in my reading, so I'm hoping to have a few days next year set aside for reading rather than writing. We'll see how THAT idea goes, lol!

The final fic rec for 2014 is The Angel And The Abyss, a three-parter by [livejournal.com profile] cthonus from way back in February 2007. Sometimes it's hard to believe Torchwood fanfic has been going for so long!

Summary: Set during the final hours of End of Days. An alternative take on the final hours of End of Days. Ianto isn't taking the situtation very well...

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Or read the whole fic here.

And that's all for 2014! Happy reading, everybody! See you next year, I hope!

The last Fic of the Week before Christmas, but I think there will be one more before the end of the year.

Another 2-parter this week. This time we have Chances, a CoE Fix-it fic from July 2009, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] buttercupgaud.

Summary: What happens after CoE.

Well, that's short but sweet, rather like this post!

Part 1 is here.

Part 2 is here.

Happy Holidays to everyone, whatever holiday ypu do or don't celebrate! *hugs everyone* Hope you all have a great time!

Happy reading, everybody!
bk_forever: (Default)

Look at that, it's Fic of the Week time again already! Life is doing me in on the run up to the holiday season, so I'm going with a very short fic this week, so that I can keep up.

Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics is a two-parter by [livejournal.com profile] alex51324 from back in May of 2009. It's R-rated, so apologies to those of you who might be underage ;)

Summary:  Obligatory post-Cyberwoman Janto.  My attempt to answer the question of "How did Ianto get from calling Jack a monster in "Cyberwoman" to suggesting sex games in "They Keep Killing Suzie"?"  Because what the fandom really needs is more of those.  (We do, we do! BK)

Part 1 is here. - Part 2 is linked at the end of Part 1.

And that's all for this week because I have an endless list of things that need to be done in prepation for Christmas and not enough time or energy to do even half of them. I'll do what I absolutely have to around the house and leave the rest. It'll still be here next year.

Happy reading everybody.

I don't think I'm ever going to catch up with my posting, never mind my reading. I still have more than 30 ficlets to post from Contest Week, now there are 7 more from Challenge Week and at least 3 from recent [livejournal.com profile] fan_flashworks challenges, plus a few chapters of Through Time and Space and several other fics written a while ago... o_O

Ah well, have a short fic from August 2010 to read. Five Things That Ianto Jones Loves About Jack Harkness And One Thing He Loathes is a little Ianto-centric 3-parter by [livejournal.com profile] hw221

Summary: just what it says on the tin. Romance, slash, h/c.

A bit of variety; that sounds good to me!

Part 1 is here.

Part 2 is here.

Part 3 is here.

And that's it for this week! Happy reading, everybody!

Normal service will be resumed one day, I hope, but for now here's a really short fic for this week, just two parts because I'm so far behind with reading, not to mention all my backlog of emails... Life is being a b***h atm, so keeping up with everything is a juggling act, but I refuse to be beaten!

This week's fic is Astonished by [livejournal.com profile] gonewithoutjam, from way back in April 2007. It's rated NC-17, so get ready to enjoy the smut =)

Summary: Jack knows Ianto is more than just a teaboy, but Ianto still has a few surprises for Jack.

Set in series one, so expect spoilers for that.

Part 1 is here. Part 2 is linked.

And that's all for this week! Happy reading, everybody!

I'm here, just a bit late, sorry.

Right, welcome to another edition of Fic of the Week. Have I got something for you this week! Have I? I'm sure it's around here somewhere.... *furtive rummaging around desktop* Aha! Something a little kinky this week - which might not be to everyone's tastes, but it's definitely a bit different. Well, I think it is. It's another short one, due to my massive lack of time/energy/concentration etc.

2001st Century Lover is a four part fic by [livejournal.com profile] todd_loves_mc from October 2009. It's rated NC-17 for... things of an adult nature, I guess.

Summary: While working in the archives Ianto receives a message asking for his presence in the far flung future, the continuation of a race depends on him.

Warnings: Tentacle Sex.

Yay! Tentacles! I believe most of you are aware that I have a bit of a tentacle kink. They're just so versatile, perfect for a bit of not-so-innocent fun. Torchwood and tentacles are a match made in smut heaven ;)

Part 1 is here. Parts are linked.

That's it for today! Happy reading, everybody!
bk_forever: (Default)
Hello, and apologies for the lateness, I'm having the day from hell. Not only did I have to call the doctor out for my mum, who has a cough, but my internet provider decided to block my access to LJ, Dreamwidth and several other sites and their home security centre that was doing it would not switch off no matter what I did. Took over and hour and three phone calls to get it sorted, during which they insisted on speaking to mum because it's her name on the bills. I'll have to get that changed. Now I have a massive headache and I'm even more stressed than before =(

Anyway, on to this week's fic, another short one because I have almost no time for anything, let alone reading. Through Other Eyes is a 4 part fic from August 2007, written by [livejournal.com profile] halfspokenwords.

Summary: An AU in which Ianto is offered command of Torchwood Three after Canary Wharf.

This sounds interesting! I suspect that a lot of things will be different from ther show; I do love AUs that look at all those What If? scenarios.

Part 1 is here. - Parts are linked.

That's all for this week. Happy reading, everybody.
bk_forever: (Default)
I'm late and way behind, but I'm here! Due to Circumstances (also known as Contest Week over at [community profile] fic_promptly) I still haven't read last week's fic. In fact I haven't even started to read it! Oh dear. o_O

With that in mind, this week's Fic of the Week will be even shorter, in order to give me a realistic chance to catch up with myself.

Kissing Ianto Jones is a two-part fic by [livejournal.com profile] madder_rose from September 2009 and is a Torchwood version of the movie Kissing Jessica Stein. I've never seen the movie, but the fic looks good.

Summary: Ianto Jones responds to what he thinks is a personal ad in the women’s section of the paper. Little does he realize that the person who posted the ad is attractive, funny and desperately lonely Jack Harkness who’s anything but a woman.

Boy, is Ianto in for a surprise!

Part 1 is here. Part 2 is linked at the end of part 1.

(In case anyone is interested, I wrote 42 prompt fills during Contest Week, ranging in length from 200 words to 955. 23 for Torchwood, 9 for Doctor Who and 6 each for FAKE and BtVS. All will eventually get posted here and on my other journals, but I suspect that's going to take a while, lol! In the meantime, does anyone happen to know of any communities for BtVS fics?)

Happy reading, everybody!

Hello, everyone, it's Fic of the Week time again! Still staying with the short fics at the moment, but be warned - this one might not be to everyone's tastes as it features prostitution (Jack).

House Of The Rising Sun is a 4-part fic from September 2008, written by [livejournal.com profile] kyn_moonlight. It's rated NC-17 for explicit adult content.

Summary: Jack’s recalled to active service by the Time Agency, but when he doesn’t come home, Ianto has to go bring him back from his undercover assignment… in a house of prostitution.

I love anything that has Ianto having to rescue Jack, so this idea intrigues me. I hope I won't be the only one it appeals to.

Part 1 is here. Parts are linked

And that's all for this week! Happy reading, everybody!
bk_forever: (Default)
We're back to not having heating, still waiting to get the fire checked for safety, but here I am, still bringing you your regularly scheduled Fic of the Week post!

This week's fic is another short one, from back in June 2008. Love Is In The Air is a four-part fic by the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] bassair.

Summary: Every member of Torchwood has a sudden new love interest ... and it's all the same man! Set after "Meat 2-04". Complete in four parts.

Here's what the author has to say: Warnings: Crack and my first attempt at slash smut (read at own risk!)

Well, that's not going to put me off ;)

It's mainly Jack/Ianto, with mild Jack and the others. (Yes, that does include Gwen, but I trust [livejournal.com profile] bassair to avoid anything too unpalatable to Gwack haters. It's crack!fic, after all!)

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4

And that's your lot for this week! Happy reading, everybody!

Hello once again, and welcome to another very short Fic of the Week!

This week I've picked something from way back in the archives - January 2007, to be exact. Retibution is a nifty little four-parter by [livejournal.com profile] athousanderrors, and is rated NC-17 for angst and smut! Ah, smut, that's just what I need!

Summary: Retribution (n) - "the distribution of rewards and punishments/something given or demanded in repayment, especially punishment./punishment imposed (as on a convicted criminal) for purposes of repayment or revenge for the wrong committed"

Possible spoilers for Cyberwoman, but we've all seen that by now, haven't we? Multiple times.

Read it here! - All parts are linked.

Well, there you have it! Happy reading, everybody!
bk_forever: (Default)
Hello again, from cold and windy Britain. I'm frozen. The new chimney liner was installed yesterday, though we still have gaping holes is the chimney breast. Those will be dealt with next Monday. I still have to do some cleaning of the fire itself, so we still have a few days at least before we have heat. Despite that and my current migraine, I'm soldiering on to bring you this week's edition of Fic of the Week.

I'm perhaps being a bit naughty, but I haven't had a lot of time to seek out something obscure or an older fic, so this week's fic is from January this year.

Shatterproof is a little three-parter by Gmariam on ff.net. The author describes it as 'A different sort of coda for Countrycide.'

Summary: The fiasco in Brynblaidd taught Ianto Jones several things: he didn't want help, he didn't need protection, and he was never going to fail again because he hated being rescued by Jack bloody Harkness.

Sounds to me as if this is the strong, capable, determined Ianto I like to read about =)

If you haven't already read it, then read it here.

And that's all for this week. Now I have to go and post a drabble and something else...

Happy reading, everybody!
bk_forever: (Default)

Despite the disappointing news of Ianto's loss to Spock in the quarter finals, I have rallied to bring you another very short fic for Fic of the Week. I simply don't have much time for reading right now, but I don't want to drop my weekly fic rec. At the end of the year, I might move to a fortnightly (every two weeks) rec to allow for reccing fics that are actually several parts long, but for the rest of this year it'll probably be short three or four chapter fics and possibly some longish one-shots. Nothing too big until I catch up with my reading backlog though.

With that in mind, this week's fic is a three-parter from January 2009 by the ever wonderful blue_fjords.

You Can Check Out Any Time You Like (But You Can Never Leave) was originally written for Day 13 of the Red is Our Color Challenge. It's set pre-Series one, has slight Jack/Ianto, and the team includes Suzie as it's pre-Gwen.

Summary:  The Team goes undercover searching for an alien murderer.  Some people get stuck in wardrobes.  Tosh is brilliant.

I think that says it all!

Part 1 is here. - Parts are linked.

Happy reading, everybody!

bk_forever: (Default)
It's Monday again, so here's this week's Fic of the Week choice. Apologies in advance - it's a very short fic bercause I've got a lot on my plate this week and won't have much time for reading.

So. First Day is a little 4-parter from June 2008 by [livejournal.com profile] coffee_kris. The rating ranges from PG-ish to NC-17, so you can tell where it's heading ;)

Summary: Gwen's first day evokes memories of *Ianto's* first day.

There are spoilers through Fragments.

Read it here in 4 parts

Or here in a single part

Sorry for being so brief this week. Happy reading, everybody!
bk_forever: (Default)
Hello, and welcome to Fic of the Week. Well, last week's fic was certainly gripping, if rather harrowing to read! I'm so glad nothing like that actually happened - as far as we know!

This week's fic is Guess We're All A Little Fragile, an 8 part fic by [livejournal.com profile] timephobia from September 2010. This one seems to begin around Greeks Bearing Gifts, but mentions info from Fragments. I'd say possibly anything in the first two seasons could get a mention, certainly season one is fair game. Mind you, we've all probably seen the first two seasons umpteen times so I don't know why I bother warning for possible spoilers!

It's Jack/Ianto, but does include some Ianto/OC before getting back on track, judging by the chapter headers, which I have skimmed for information.

Summary for Chapter 1: Tosh has been reading minds and Ianto's worried--and Jack's gotta deal with it.

The summaries change from chapter to chapter

Chapter 1 is here. Chapters are all linked.

That's it for today!

Happy reading, everybody!
bk_forever: (Default)
Hello! Welcome to the new edition of Fic of the Week. I think this week's fic choice should carry a warning, so here it is:

WARNING: Very dark fic ahead!

Ok, now that's out of the way...

This week's fic is
Disinterred, which is a six-part fic from June 2008 by [livejournal.com profile] seize. As warned, it is a DARK fic, not my usual reading choice but I'm curious by nature, so I thought I'd see what it's all about. Of course, it may leave me hiding under the bed wibbling, but what's life without the occasional risk?

Summary: "What is a man? A miserable little pile of secrets." (Andre Malraux)

Author's Spoilers/Warnings: Through "Adam." Torture, dark themes. This is not like my other work in this fandom.

Um, yeah. Anyone want to join me under the bed?

Read it here, if you dare!

I'd say 'Happy reading', but I have a feeling that might not be appropriate this week... Oh dear!
bk_forever: (Default)
Hello again! I'm a little late today owing to dodgy internet, but I'm here at last!

As I mentioned last week, this week's choice is the sequel to Week 139's fic.

Our Honeymoon In The Heavens - also by the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] bookwrm89 - is an 8 part fic following Jack and Ianto's honeymoon adventures.

Summary: This is a sequel to Rules for Dating Your Boss & Our Wedding In Hell.  Now that the guys survived the civil partnership, they are going on a honeymoon.  The Doctor is letting them use the TARDIS, while he stays and keeps on eye on the Torchwood team (although, other than bidding them goodbye, the Doctor and team aren't going to appear in this much).

The links to the chapters can be found on [livejournal.com profile] bookwrm89's Master List page under the Rules-verse heading.
