I sometimes flick ahead in certain books just to see if the characters I like will make an appearance - mostly with the Charlie Parker novels bt John Connolly, which I love. Before I read I like to know when Angel and Louis will appear. I'm very strict with myself though, so while I'll glance at those scenes, I always read the book properly. I'm reading The Burning Soul now, it's really gripping. i like the supernatural elements in the books.
I'm the only person I know who reads reference books from cover to cover, including the introduction. I read constantly and usually have several books on the go at once. Right now I have 4 - The Burning Soul, a book of short stories, a graphic novel and an encyclopaedia of animal life. I read before I go to sleep, so I like to have a choice. =P
