It's no exaggeration to say I feel violated. Someone on FF.Net has taken one of the stories I posted last night (a FAKE ficlet titled 'A Hearty Breakfast), added vile and repulsive content to it, and posted it as their own work. They've also done the same with another story by somone else in a different fandom.

I don't get what makes someone like this tick. This person also had the nerve to 'review' my story before stealing it, if they hadn't I might not have learned about the sickening plagiarism because I went to their profile page looking for a way to ban them or report them. I'm both glad and sorry I found out, because I can't un-see what they added to my story.

I've reported them, so I only hope that will help. If any of you have acounts on FF.Net, I'd appreciate your support over getting this person banned. They call themselves Horenissa.

So, yesterday I went to do the laundry and found the washing machine didn't work. It's getting on in years and had been a bit iffy for a while, so it wasn't a huge surprise. I figured as it was quite a few years old and not under warranty I should replace it rather than get it repaired, and since there were Black Friday deals to be had, the timing was serendipitous - if you have to replace a large appliance, best to do it when you can get a good bargain.

I found a good make with great performance ratings at a saving of £70, it does half loads which is ideal for me now I'm on my own, and best of all, delivery, installation, and recycling of my old machine were included in the price. Yay!

What I only found out when I got a phonecall this morning to arrange a suitable delivery day was that I was expected to disconnect and remove the old machine myself. Like I said, I live alone, I have health problems, I'm not strong (the machines weigh a ton) and I'm not a plumber. I don't know the first thing about how to disconnect a washing machine. That's the sort of thing the people who install them know about. But they're apparently not allowed to disconnect machines, only to install them. Where does that make any kind of sense? The lady on the phone suggested I ask a neighbour for help. Most of them either have less technical skill than I do or are in their seventies and eighties. I suppose I could call my plumber and pay him to disconnect it, but I'm trying to save money. Just buying the machine, even at a discount, is taking a big bite out of my budget.

Now my friend is going to have to get the help of one of his brothers because it'll take at least two people to get the existing machine out of the house, and buy supplies so that nothing leaks all over the floor, some sort of cut-off valve that will be needed because my machine's waste pipe is connected to the waste pipe for the sink and if it's disconnected it'll leave a big hole for water to pour out of every time I use the sink *headdesk*

My kitchen is the size of a postage stamp, the old machine can't be left in there until next Wednesday because it would take up half of the available floor space and I wouldn't be able to open the fridge or the freezer. Bad enough that I'll have to get up at 6am on Wednesday because the delivery time is anywhere from 7am onwards, but I have all this chaos to deal with first.

These days we pay out more and get less service for our money. Is there anywhere out there that disconnects old appliances they're taking away before installing new ones or is everyone just expected to do it themselves? The whole thing is ridiculous.

I am not pleased >=[

Re-posted from [livejournal.com profile] tardisjournal

Somebody with this website is repostings several authors/fanartists fics on there without listing the name of the authors/fanartists on there and apparently in most cases, without permission. I've seen a good number of stories/fanart I'm familar with on the site (all of them most likely swiped from LJ and LJ comms as several LJ links to the original authors LJs are still attached), so if your fic/art I'd definitely tell this person to take it down immediately.

It's looking increasingly likely that the it's being done automatically, via a 'bot as there seems to be no rhyme or reason to what's taken. The site calls itself a fanfiction site, but many of the posts there are NOT fanfiction, though they may mention the subject. The only unifying factor is that they're tagged with words such as 'fanfic' fan fiction' etc. In some cases (mine included) it's just the headers of fics getting copied from various sites, in others it's complete posts taken directly from people's own journals. This is something that must not be allowed to continue. Some of the posts aren't even directly attributable to the actual author because not everyone puts their author name in the headers of fics posted to their own journals.

The headers and links for at least 78 of my fics and drabbles have been copied to the site. All seem to have been taken not from my journal (I'm one of the luckier people affected) but from the posts I've made to the [livejournal.com profile] torchwoodcoffee community.

I have left a complaint (well, two actually) on the website, requesting that all of my posts be removed, but I haven't heard back yet and my posts are still there.

I recommend checking the site thoroughly to see if any of your own posts have been re-posted there. It takes some time to go through all the posts, they've been at this since March 2011, but if you don't want your posts appearing somewhere you have no control over, it's the only way to be sure. If the site owner gets enough complaints, maybe it'll do some good, at least getting as many posts removed as we can.

Spread the word, and tag your warning posts with words such as fanfic, because then there's a chance they'll get posted to this thieving website - there are three there already - and serve to alert visitors to the site to what's being done without our consent.

WHAT THE FUCK HAS LJ DONE NOW?!!!!

The new update page is horrible, I can barely read half the writing on it now with my eyesight, I have to get right up to the screen and squint!

And the standard journal page is as bad or worse, the tags are now so small and blue I can't read them.

I am just so sick of LJ changing things for no reason and making them more difficult to use. A lot of us have vision problems, but they just don't give a damn about their users. I should be used to that by now, but it still drives me mad  >= [

DAMNIT! I've had 12 anonymous spam comments trying to seel me cheap knockoff sports jerseys on the same post in one day!

I have better things to do with my time than marking comments as spam.

GRRRRRRR!

I wish they weren't anonymous so I could ban the sender. =[

Dear friends,

I just signed a petition to help stop Uganda's notorious "Kill the Gays" bill - which could legalize the death penalty for gay and lesbian people.  President Museveni promised to veto it but he's under pressure from Uganda's parliament who desperately want to pass it.  We can hold him to his promise by taking action right now.

We've done it before - by creating a global outcry of literally millions of people. I know we can stop it again, but only if you sign this petition and share it now.

The bill could move forward at any moment - will you join me and stand with Ugandans against this horrific law?

This is extremely important...

Dear friend,

I just signed a petition to put a stop to phony gay "cures" happening right now in Australia and the UK - as part of a global tour of treatment sessions.

This has to stop. These gay "cures" are extremely dangerous and so damaging it drives many to self-harm and even suicide. The governments of France and Argentina have already taken action as part of this campaign. There are sessions planned in 8 more countries, including Australia and the UK. But we can stop this awful practice.

The next session is starting on Sunday, there is no time to lose. Will you sign this petition to stop gay "cures" now?

http://www.allout.org/endgaycures

If you can, please sign the petetion, this barbaric practice has to be stopped before it can damage even more people who have done nothing to deserve it.
