Summary: Suzie has become disillusioned about Torchwood.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.
A/N: Double drabble.




Back when she was recruited to Torchwood, it had all been so exciting and new. Suzie had been filled with awe and wonder at each new discovery but as time had passed the thrill had worn off.


She’d started to realise they never got anything really good. They got Weevils and Hoix, both species willing to eat whatever they could get their claws on. They got bits of unidentifiable tech, most of it broken beyond hope of repair. They got random objects from earth’s past, none of which were worth anything, and they got junk, the discarded refuse of a thousand worlds. The Rift should be charged with littering.


Where were all the wonderful things she’d expected to discover, the technology that could change the world? Where were the aliens from advanced civilisations who could provide the people of earth with cures to all known diseases, eliminate air pollution, and provide clean sources of energy?


Jack was no help; he kept talking about timelines and how they had to be maintained. He said changing the future would be catastrophic, but he was wrong. They should be using what they found to make the world better, otherwise what was the point?

Yes, he did. It was RTD's conceit that Gwen was such a wonderful, ideal woman that every man she met would instantly fall hopelessly in love with her. *rolls eyes*

At least Ianto had the sense not to be interested in such a shallow, tactless, self-involved, patronising, gossip-hungry brat.

While RTD was putting Gwen up on a pedestal, he was putting Toshiko down. Only in the episode Adam did we get to see her as the confident and assertive type. When a man gave a compliment to Tosh it was always understated or unwanted.

I was glad when the Owen/Gwen thing was over and done with. They were just using each other.*shakes head*

I gather Gwen wasn't Ianto's cup of tea or should I say coffee?*tries to make a bad pun*

Tosh was 100 times the woman Gwen was.

Gwen probably thought Owen loved her but he was definitely just having fun. Casual sex was very much Owen's thing at that point but Gwen always had an over-inflated sense of her own importance.

Ianto could see right through her. She had a boyfriend she claimed to love, was having an affair with Owen, and was throwing herself at Jack.

I hate love triangles. If you could call it one. But then real relationships are perceived as boring onscreen. Owen falls for Diana, she leaves. Once Owen started to feel something real for Tosh, they both die.

I didn't care about that scene where Gwen crying alone in her pizza. Such a pointless scene.

I like to believe Ianto wouldn't fall for Gwen under any circumstances. There has to be a line of realism here. Not everyone is attracted to people they work with.

They can be very annoying. There's a lot of drama created by complicating relationships though. I Liked Diane, so I felt bad for Owen when she left.

That scene just showed how self-involved Gwen was. She didn't feel bad for wiping Rhys' memory, she was crying because he wouldn't forgive her for cheating on him. All she cared about was being forgiven so she could feel absolved of any wrongdoing.

I'm sure he wouldn't; Ianto has taste and self respect.

If the relationship is easy. Then obstacles are in the way. There's always something.

Rhys reaction was realistic. Gwen was kidding herself that he could process and forgive her in such a short amount of time.*scoffs*

Ianto was underrated. I could picture him talking coffee with Aubrey from Bones.:)

It's the writer's job to come up with interesting obstacle to throw in the way of the romantic couple.

Rhys might have forgiven Gwen eventually, but Gwen wanted it right away without having to deal with his anger.

Ianto would be an asset on practically any show.

Yeah. Especially when new showrunners are introduced later in a series. Throwing new curb balls here and there for drama.

If Gwen had approached the situation in a less selfish way. She would have been redeemable. She enter the marriage on bad terms.

Yep. Ianto could make coffee for poor Kate Beckett. She always had a problem working that espresso machine Rick got for the Precinct.

It would have helped to redeem the character, but it wasn't he only fault. She was badly written from the start.

Ah, but then Rick wouldn't get to make the coffee for his girl. Besides, Ianto would turn his nose up at the espresso machine. He has standards ;)

Love, lust, you name it or else there's no story. Eventually it runs into TV tropes territory.

Especially when you compare Gwen to the typical leading lady. I'll take Kate Beckett interrogation scenes over Gwens hissy fits anyday.

Well it was getting a little crowded when Rick got Lucy. The system for his smarthouse. While Kate was away. I think Kate put Lucy in the fridge because she was being rude to her.:D

Maybe Ianto could offer coffee to Esposito and Ryan. In their very own spinoff. A girl can dream.:)

Which is why TV tropes are a thing.

Gwen is crap as a leading lady. There are so many good ones. Not just Beckett, but Beckett, the Charmed ones, Buffy...

The Lucy storyline was a bit daft, but then I don't like those artificial intelligence things anyway.

TV tropes are one thing. Sometimes it gets abit cliche or a character acts OOC. I guess the delivery is what counts.

Yeah. They all have qualities that Gwen lacks. Eliza Dusku did a great job as Faith. Like impersonating Buffy when they switched bodies.

Lucy: Sucks to be you, Rick.

Systems are supposed to be handy devices. Not snarky like Lucy. I suppose that was the joke. Although it did make Rick seemed lonely. He couldn't get a pet?

It's a fanfic waiting to happen.:)

I love those body switches. Did you ever see Lost Girl? That had the most awesome multiple body switch, the actors really went to town with it and they were so good pretending to be each other.

Gwen lacks any good qualities as far as I'm concerned. She embodies all the worst qualities of humanity.

I guess that was supposed to be the joke but it was a bit annoying.

Maybe his building doesn't allow pets.

I've heard of Lost Girl. But didn't know that aspect of it. I will go check it out.

The eye acting that Eve Myles did was a big pet peeve of mine.*frowns*

Kate switched the switch so Lucy became Linus. I didn't know the former was voiced by Seth Green until I looked it up. If only he had mentioned Willow.:)

Okay. Rick needed a robot dog like K9. But that's just me, stepping into fanfic territory. He could have made do with audiobooks.

You should be able to find the scene on youtube, although it works better if you're familiar with the characters.

Gwen used the wide-eyed look for every emotion. *sigh* One-note acting.

I f=didn't know that was Seth either... Now I want to watch those episodes again!

Rick would have LOVED owning K9! You should write that, lol!

I wish someone told Eve the definition of micro-expressions. It was borderline pantomime.

It's easy not to notice since his voice is slightly altered. But once you know its Seth, it's so obvious.:D

Eve is from a soap opera background where everyone over-acts. Gareth and Naoko Mori, even Burn Gorman, were much more subtle actors, delivering more nuanced performance. What Ianto can say with an eyeroll or raised eyebrow is more than Gwen ever expressed with her overdone expressions.

That would be so cool! I wrote a Doctor Who/Castle drabble once.

Well, she certainly has the "wide eyed and bushy tail" thing going on. Soap opera programs are a training ground for newbie actors. I preferred when she plays one-off characters. Like in "Merlin" or Gwen's ancestor on "Doctor Who". The subtle the better.

I got another fic idea. Hint: Jack and Lanie.

She just never learned any better. I almost switched off Merlin when she showed up, but thankfully she was only in the pilot.

Eve Myles character was killed off. Just like on "Doctor Who". Coincidence?*shrugs*

Lanie: I can think of two. Either I’m really bad at my job, or Castle’s right and this guy’s immortal.

Tamala Jones mentioned on a ensemble cast panel interview that she flirts with the extras who play corpses on "Castle" between takes.;)

I just wish her character had been killed off on Torchwood.

Jack would really enjoy any flirting. Must be difficult for the guest corpses not to react though!

Having a bomb in your body like Jack did, is much worse than a baby Gwen!

That's a direct quote from the Castle episode "Dead Again". I actually forgot about this episode. But my subconscious must not have. I hope that makes sense.

My only pet peeve is that they didn't really explain how Alan, the guy who died three times survived. Although I did like the chemistry between him and Lanie.

Tosh: Exactly. I've watched him in action.

I wish Lanie had been in "Miracle Day". Yeah, I heard that there's a lot of waiting around too. Small price to pay as an extra.

Nothing could have save Miracle Day from being a load of crap.

Considering the subject matter. I preferred it over the LokSat storyline. I ship Alan and Lanie.:D

Sad, but true. RTD really likes to "break his toys". It was too dark, and that's saying something after "Children Of Earth". What the heck happened to the "Soulless people" with those masks Gwen was yapping about? You know what, it doesn't matter.

Anyway, this is where fanfic takes over. I'd like to see how Perlmutter (the other M.E) would handle Jack. He was so hostile to Castle. Maybe even more so than Captain Gates was. She warmed up to him eventually.

RTD just likes destroying things and killing characters, especially if the fans like them. I didn't watch MD, just read the episode synopses, and it was ludicrous. I wasn't going to waste ten hours of my life on so much idiocy.

Perlmutter didn't much like anybody, but it wouldn't faze Jack. He'd still flirt.
