Title: Disillusioned
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Suzie, Jack.
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 616: Thrill at
tw100.
Spoilers: Set pre-series.
Summary: Suzie has become disillusioned about Torchwood.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.
A/N: Double drabble.
Back when she was recruited to Torchwood, it had all been so exciting and new. Suzie had been filled with awe and wonder at each new discovery but as time had passed the thrill had worn off.
She’d started to realise they never got anything really good. They got Weevils and Hoix, both species willing to eat whatever they could get their claws on. They got bits of unidentifiable tech, most of it broken beyond hope of repair. They got random objects from earth’s past, none of which were worth anything, and they got junk, the discarded refuse of a thousand worlds. The Rift should be charged with littering.
Where were all the wonderful things she’d expected to discover, the technology that could change the world? Where were the aliens from advanced civilisations who could provide the people of earth with cures to all known diseases, eliminate air pollution, and provide clean sources of energy?
Jack was no help; he kept talking about timelines and how they had to be maintained. He said changing the future would be catastrophic, but he was wrong. They should be using what they found to make the world better, otherwise what was the point?
The End

Date: 2020-09-01 10:21 am (UTC)There are profilers who have to do that kind of work I guess. It wouldn't be pleasant.
I enjoyed all the interns, there was a good mix of personalities. Some I liked better than others, but they all brought something new and helped keep the show fresh.

Date: 2020-09-01 12:12 pm (UTC)He should work in fast food. There is so much food waste at the end of the day. It isn't funny.*sighs*
Richard Castle: There are two kinds of folks who sit around thinking about how to kill people: psychopaths and mystery writers. I'm the kind that pays better.
I actually wanted to study criminal psychology when I was younger but my mum said I shouldn't. Which I understood eventually.
Dr Oliver Wells: I'm a polymath. I can learn from anything.
And yet he couldn't get along with the rest of the folks at the Jeffersonian.*shrugs*

Date: 2020-09-01 07:27 pm (UTC)Yeah, I think it would be seriously disturbing!
Well was my least favourite. I liked Finn Abernathy best.

Date: 2020-09-02 05:59 am (UTC)Castle: Do I look like a killer to you?
Beckett: Yes, you kill my patience.
Getting into the mindset of someone like that. It could really mess with one's head.
It's no surprise that Brennan declined Oliver's offer to be friends. No one likes a "Know it all". Finn however was a nice, honest kind of guy moving on from his dark past. I didn't think much about his relationship with Michelle though. It was short-lived anyways.

Date: 2020-09-02 11:03 am (UTC)Yeah, you have to be a really stable, grounded person to handle that kind of job.
He was not a nice guy. Too arrogant. Finn was so lovely, just a really decent person. I actually really liked his relationship with Michelle. I was sad when they broke up because he was so devastated. He really loved her. =(

Date: 2020-09-02 01:53 pm (UTC)Bones: Dr. Wells is a polymath and more than qualified to do the research. And if he isn't, we dismiss him. No one likes him anyway.
Colin Fisher: I kinda do. (Wells looks surprisingly at Fisher)
I don't know. I didn't really go for the Finn/Michelle or Aubrey/Jessica ships. Michelle broke up with Finn because her cheating meant she wasn't ready for a commitment.*shrugs*
I believe Finn deserved better after Michelle wanted to hide their relationship from Cam (her mum), his boss. Maybe I'm just being a tough cookie because I wouldn't want to be place in that position.*huffs and crosses arms dramatically*

Date: 2020-09-02 04:53 pm (UTC)Finn deserved better than to be cheated on, but college does change some people. Se wasn't ready to settle down.
Michelle wasn't trying to hide their relationship, Cam knew, she just wanted to hide that she was in town for a few days because Cam can be a bit demanding and she wanted to spend time with her boyfriend rather than her mom. Finn was just too honest, he couldn't hide the truth.

Date: 2020-09-03 06:58 am (UTC)It was nice that Fisher invited Sweets and Hodgins to see an exclusive showing of Avatar after he won tickets.:)
Fair enough.
"Afterwards Cam relents and tells Michelle about what happened, Michelle becomes upset and threatens to let Finn "have it", but Cam convinces Michelle to forgive him".
Fair enough that Michelle wanted some space and time away from her mum, (I've been there myself). But If it had been someone else instead of Finn, Cam would have been none the wiser. The storyline would have been Michelle lying to her mother about a secret relationship.
However, Finn proved his worth to Cam and she inturn advised Michelle not to stay mad at him. Overall, I believe it was a learning curve for Michelle. She's a teenager and still learning how to deal with grown up issues.

Date: 2020-09-03 09:41 am (UTC)Michelle was still finding her way in life, she's been very protected growing up but she has to be able to make her own mistakes. Finn was just the sweetest guy.

Date: 2020-09-03 10:26 am (UTC)"Booth is against the idea of Brennan having Fisher's children because if that were to happen, it would be like "giving birth to the spawn of Satan."
I had to disagree on Booth's description. Especially after Brennan mentioned in the past that people use label her as being too weird.
Relationships look like hard work to me. I believe you have to know yourself enough to avoid hurting others or be prepared when things go awry.

Date: 2020-09-03 07:42 pm (UTC)All the best people have a degree of weirdness.
Relationships ARE hard work, which is why so many fail. People want it to be easy so when it gets a little bit difficult too many these days give up. They're not willing to put the effort in.

Date: 2020-09-04 06:35 am (UTC)Dr. Jonah Amayo : And now you've managed to insult an entire culture and their belief system.
Special Agent Seeley Booth : She does that to everyone.
I'd wonder how she'd handle someone like Rick Castle. The one thing they have in common is writing books on murder.
Yes. A creative benefit. It's such a shame that in high school being different AKA "weird" is something perceived as wrong. Some people think I'm weird.*shrugs*
Of course relationships take effort but when someone lies, expects their partner to change or takes the other one for granted. It's no surprise that it doesn't work. I'm not a relationship expert, so I just go by what I've witness.

Date: 2020-09-04 09:46 am (UTC)She'd probably criticise his books and he'd get offended.
I'm weird, and I like it. Weird people should stick together. I didn't want to be a sheep. Everyone at school thought I was weird because I didn't like the things they liked.
Tat's what couples counselling is for, to help people communicate better.

Date: 2020-09-05 04:38 am (UTC)Yeah. He'd get along better with Angela. She helped Brenan with the "romance" part of her books.
I use to get bullied by the "mean girls". I was like Willow minus the amazing maths skills. I didn't have the confidence to tell them off.
Castle: Oh my God, could my ex-wife be LokSat? Because in a lot of ways that could make a lot of sense.
Yep. It's better than speculating, blaming or giving up altogether.

Date: 2020-09-05 09:46 am (UTC)Angela's so lovely who wouldn't get along with her?
I was bullied too.
Anyone who gives up on a relationship as soon as they hit a rough spot is too immature to be in a relationship in the first place.

Date: 2020-09-05 10:55 am (UTC)Angela: Brennan is really lucky that she's my friend or I would totally make a move on you.
Booth: Great, I really don't know how to respond to that where I come out looking like a good guy.
She's relatively a people person, but won't stand for rude behaviour. Telling Dr Wells not to be "a douche".
A reason not to take things personally. I didn't have that knowledge back then.
Yep. They don't learn from the experience. Placing blame somewhere or on someone else.

Date: 2020-09-05 07:04 pm (UTC)I wish I had that kind of confidence.
People need to accept that they're sometimes the one at fault.

Date: 2020-09-06 09:19 am (UTC)I was like that in high school with my mystery/thriller books. I still read books but for academic purposes. The audiobooks are for my insomnia. The problem is I doze off halfway though.
They say fake it, till you make it. Sometimes I tried that and some people didn't like it.*sighs*
Exactly. It's better than being arrogant or regretting that kind of behaviour afterwards.
