Title: Disillusioned
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Suzie, Jack.
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 616: Thrill at
tw100.
Spoilers: Set pre-series.
Summary: Suzie has become disillusioned about Torchwood.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.
A/N: Double drabble.
Back when she was recruited to Torchwood, it had all been so exciting and new. Suzie had been filled with awe and wonder at each new discovery but as time had passed the thrill had worn off.
She’d started to realise they never got anything really good. They got Weevils and Hoix, both species willing to eat whatever they could get their claws on. They got bits of unidentifiable tech, most of it broken beyond hope of repair. They got random objects from earth’s past, none of which were worth anything, and they got junk, the discarded refuse of a thousand worlds. The Rift should be charged with littering.
Where were all the wonderful things she’d expected to discover, the technology that could change the world? Where were the aliens from advanced civilisations who could provide the people of earth with cures to all known diseases, eliminate air pollution, and provide clean sources of energy?
Jack was no help; he kept talking about timelines and how they had to be maintained. He said changing the future would be catastrophic, but he was wrong. They should be using what they found to make the world better, otherwise what was the point?
The End

Date: 2020-08-20 10:20 am (UTC)The eye acting that Eve Myles did was a big pet peeve of mine.*frowns*
Kate switched the switch so Lucy became Linus. I didn't know the former was voiced by Seth Green until I looked it up. If only he had mentioned Willow.:)
Okay. Rick needed a robot dog like K9. But that's just me, stepping into fanfic territory. He could have made do with audiobooks.
no subject
Date: 2020-08-20 07:14 pm (UTC)Gwen used the wide-eyed look for every emotion. *sigh* One-note acting.
I f=didn't know that was Seth either... Now I want to watch those episodes again!
Rick would have LOVED owning K9! You should write that, lol!

Date: 2020-08-21 12:45 am (UTC)Okay.:)
I wish someone told Eve the definition of micro-expressions. It was borderline pantomime.
It's easy not to notice since his voice is slightly altered. But once you know its Seth, it's so obvious.:D
K9: Affirmative!
I'll see what I can do.*grins*

Date: 2020-08-21 09:37 am (UTC)That would be so cool! I wrote a Doctor Who/Castle drabble once.
no subject
Date: 2020-08-21 10:01 am (UTC)As Rick Castle would say: Sweet!
I got another fic idea. Hint: Jack and Lanie.
no subject
Date: 2020-08-21 05:49 pm (UTC)Cool! Jack and a coroner is never less than fun!
no subject
Date: 2020-08-22 04:40 am (UTC)Kate: So, is there an explanation?
Lanie: I can think of two. Either I’m really bad at my job, or Castle’s right and this guy’s immortal.
Tamala Jones mentioned on a ensemble cast panel interview that she flirts with the extras who play corpses on "Castle" between takes.;)
no subject
Date: 2020-08-22 09:41 am (UTC)Heehee! Love it!
Jack would really enjoy any flirting. Must be difficult for the guest corpses not to react though!

Date: 2020-08-22 12:33 pm (UTC)Ianto: It's active. Two minutes.
Gwen: Yeah, well, I can't just run, Jack.
Jack: You're pregnant.
Having a bomb in your body like Jack did, is much worse than a baby Gwen!
That's a direct quote from the Castle episode "Dead Again". I actually forgot about this episode. But my subconscious must not have. I hope that makes sense.
My only pet peeve is that they didn't really explain how Alan, the guy who died three times survived. Although I did like the chemistry between him and Lanie.
Tosh: Exactly. I've watched him in action.
I wish Lanie had been in "Miracle Day". Yeah, I heard that there's a lot of waiting around too. Small price to pay as an extra.

Date: 2020-08-22 06:49 pm (UTC)Nothing could have save Miracle Day from being a load of crap.
no subject
Date: 2020-08-23 03:56 am (UTC)Sonia(ex-fiancé): Javier?
*Esposito sighs*
Ryan:You sure you’re over her?
Castle: You might want to tell your mouth. (he pinches ESPOSITO’S lips together) Close that up.
Sad, but true. RTD really likes to "break his toys". It was too dark, and that's saying something after "Children Of Earth". What the heck happened to the "Soulless people" with those masks Gwen was yapping about? You know what, it doesn't matter.
Anyway, this is where fanfic takes over. I'd like to see how Perlmutter (the other M.E) would handle Jack. He was so hostile to Castle. Maybe even more so than Captain Gates was. She warmed up to him eventually.
no subject
Date: 2020-08-23 09:52 am (UTC)Perlmutter didn't much like anybody, but it wouldn't faze Jack. He'd still flirt.
no subject
Date: 2020-08-23 10:13 am (UTC)Spoiler alert: she was killed off. Why did I bother investing in someone who would die in "Miracle Day"*head desk*
Perlmutter: How a woman so astute could choose to marry Castle…
He seemed to have a certain level of respect for Kate at the very least.
Jack could chase him around the autopsy table.:D
no subject
Date: 2020-08-23 06:04 pm (UTC)Perlmutter probably fancied Kate.
That would be fun!
no subject
Date: 2020-08-24 08:37 am (UTC)Well, at least it probably gave JB exposure in America. He went on to star in "Arrow".
BTW: I heard the Torchwood Hub was blown up in series 3 to make way for the Eleventh Doctor's TARDIS.
I bet Permutter did, but he was kind of snarky overall. Kate was better at ignoring his opnions unless it was important.
Thanks for the feedback. I will dedicate the fic to you if everything runs smoothly.:)
no subject
Date: 2020-08-24 10:05 am (UTC)I heard that and it sucked! I love Eleven and his TARDIS but why'd they have to destroy Torchwood for it?
He was, but I liked that about the character. Wonder how he would get along with Brennan...
Oooh, thank you! =D
no subject
Date: 2020-08-24 10:39 am (UTC)I have no idea. It's like they can't find some place else to stage things? The TARDIS get's blown up again after Eleven regenerates. I liked Twelves TARDIS, but why...*gets emotionally attached*
Brennan: I don't need sleep to be beautiful.*missing the point*
Hodgins: No, but it does make you pleasant.
Perlmutter has a different personality to Lanie's . There were a few times she had to put her foot down.
I recall her using the fire extinguisher on both Ryan and Esposito for pulling a prank on her.
Brennan is unfazed by insults, and is quite direct. So probably have no problem with Perlmutter. I remember Clark would get annoyed at everybody just laundering out their personal problems at the Jeffersonian.
no subject
Date: 2020-08-24 07:10 pm (UTC)You'd thin, but I guess they had limited sound stage space. I get attached to all sorts of things. Recently it was a little purple window walker thingy on advertising sponsorship of the TV station I watch most. His adventures were such fun, m=but now the promos have been changed =(
Brennan often missed the point. Perlmutter would probably not know what to make of her, which might be fun.
no subject
Date: 2020-08-25 07:00 am (UTC)Yep. It took a while for me to process JB acting mean as Malcolm on "Arrow". He did not look old enough to have a son as old as Tommy.
I had to look up "window walker". I'm not sure if it relates to what you are referring too. For me, I don't like when food products are altered.*thinks of Milka Chocolate*
Brennan: Look, I am sorry if I embarrassed you in front of your friends, but next time you should identify yourself before attacking me.
no subject
Date: 2020-08-25 10:10 am (UTC)He's a little man with his arms up so he's sort of shaped like an H and has sticky hands and feet, and a flexible waist. In one of his adventures he's walking along a garden wall and gets his foot stuck in a hole, and there's a cat coming towards him. t's funny and cute. I miss the little purple guy. The new promos are crap.
That's why I love Brennan, so direct and to the point. She has no tact.
no subject
Date: 2020-08-25 10:59 am (UTC)Aww! That's a shame. There's always that policy that promos have to change. I mentioned a while back about a local Australian drama set on a farm called "McLeod's Daughters". When the network got someone new to run it, they made these "sexy" promos. It had a wholesome kind of image before that.*shakes head*
Booth: [To Brennan] You know, it's okay to be upset.
Brennan: I wish this is the worst thing I'd seen.
Yes. She had her moments. Some people focused on her "lack" of people skills. But she wasn't without empathy.
no subject
Date: 2020-08-25 07:25 pm (UTC)Brennan lacked some things but she was a good person.
no subject
Date: 2020-08-26 09:14 am (UTC)Dr. Temperance 'Bones' Brennan : My foster parents locked me in the trunk of a car for 2 days when I broke a dish. I was a very clumsy child. They warned me it would happen, but the water was so hot and the soap was so slippery. I still don't think it was fair, even though they gave me fair warning. The water was so hot.
Seriously, who does that to a child, regardless of their behaviour!
I think Brennan was determined to get a good education so that she could help people with the skills she learned. To get away from a bad environment.
no subject
Date: 2020-08-26 10:02 am (UTC)Yeah, Brennan had a really bad time in the foster system =(
no subject
Date: 2020-08-26 10:27 am (UTC)I know what you mean.:)
On "Leverage", they showed that Foster care can go either way.
Parker: Well, you were lucky. No. We’ll put these kids in the system, and odds are, they're gonna -- they're gonna... (trying not to cry) they're gonna turn out like me.
Hardison: I like how you turned out.
Sometimes its about making the most out of a bad situation.
