Title: Disillusioned
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Suzie, Jack.
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 616: Thrill at
tw100.
Spoilers: Set pre-series.
Summary: Suzie has become disillusioned about Torchwood.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.
A/N: Double drabble.
Back when she was recruited to Torchwood, it had all been so exciting and new. Suzie had been filled with awe and wonder at each new discovery but as time had passed the thrill had worn off.
She’d started to realise they never got anything really good. They got Weevils and Hoix, both species willing to eat whatever they could get their claws on. They got bits of unidentifiable tech, most of it broken beyond hope of repair. They got random objects from earth’s past, none of which were worth anything, and they got junk, the discarded refuse of a thousand worlds. The Rift should be charged with littering.
Where were all the wonderful things she’d expected to discover, the technology that could change the world? Where were the aliens from advanced civilisations who could provide the people of earth with cures to all known diseases, eliminate air pollution, and provide clean sources of energy?
Jack was no help; he kept talking about timelines and how they had to be maintained. He said changing the future would be catastrophic, but he was wrong. They should be using what they found to make the world better, otherwise what was the point?
The End

Date: 2020-08-25 07:25 pm (UTC)Brennan lacked some things but she was a good person.

Date: 2020-08-26 09:14 am (UTC)Dr. Temperance 'Bones' Brennan : My foster parents locked me in the trunk of a car for 2 days when I broke a dish. I was a very clumsy child. They warned me it would happen, but the water was so hot and the soap was so slippery. I still don't think it was fair, even though they gave me fair warning. The water was so hot.
Seriously, who does that to a child, regardless of their behaviour!
I think Brennan was determined to get a good education so that she could help people with the skills she learned. To get away from a bad environment.

Date: 2020-08-26 10:02 am (UTC)Yeah, Brennan had a really bad time in the foster system =(

Date: 2020-08-26 10:27 am (UTC)I know what you mean.:)
On "Leverage", they showed that Foster care can go either way.
Parker: Well, you were lucky. No. We’ll put these kids in the system, and odds are, they're gonna -- they're gonna... (trying not to cry) they're gonna turn out like me.
Hardison: I like how you turned out.
Sometimes its about making the most out of a bad situation.

Date: 2020-08-27 09:52 am (UTC)Okay, Parker was undercover but she still had dodgy foster parents. It's unfair that these children are only taught to fend for themselves and as they grow up have trust issues. At least with adoption, the arrangement is taken more seriously because it's permanent. Case workers can only do so much.
I can understand why Brennan felt abandoned by her older brother Russ even though he wasn't that much older than her at the time. At least they reconciled later on.

Date: 2020-08-27 05:27 pm (UTC)I think it's good that TV shows highlight what some foster children deal with, it gets it out into the open.

Date: 2020-08-29 08:58 am (UTC)It was interesting to see who is eligible for fostering kids.
On Bones, they really made a case on how bad it could get. Sweets story was so sad.:(

Date: 2020-08-29 09:43 am (UTC)Yeah, and then he dies before he got to be a dad to his own baby =(

Date: 2020-08-29 10:29 am (UTC)My research made me consider if I could look after a kid. If it meant helping someone in need. If I was in a better financial situation I might have.
I know right?! It was due to the actor wanting to leave but it was at such a crucial moment in Sweets life. I wanted him and Daisy to have a happy ending. I can't imagine bringing a baby to full term when your partner has passed away.:(

Date: 2020-08-29 07:00 pm (UTC)It's sad when actors want to leave, but they don't want to get typecast. The baby was all Daisy had left of Sweets.

Date: 2020-08-30 09:56 am (UTC)Technically, John Francis Daley (Sweets) wanted a time out to direct a movie. But instead of writing Lance out temporarily, they decided to give him a dramatic sent off. Daisy would've possibly be written out too if they forced a happy ending. She lost her "Lancelot".:(

Date: 2020-08-30 06:30 pm (UTC)At least we still had Daisy for a while.

Date: 2020-08-31 11:11 am (UTC)FBI Special Agent James Aubrey : Uh, yeah, in case of emergencies like this one.
And I'm glad of it. He didn't feel like a replacement but a nice addition to the cast.:)
True. I could identify with Daisy's urge to talk when excited/passionate/enthusiasticabout something. Sweets tried to coach her on how to pace herself.:D

Date: 2020-08-31 07:11 pm (UTC)I think both characters grew from their relationship. That's one of the thing I loved about the series; all the characters grew and developed, they had their own arcs. That's the way to handle a ensemble cast.

Date: 2020-09-01 06:53 am (UTC)I saw a few episodes of Criminal Minds. I wouldn't want that kind of job though, even it meant flying around in a jet. But I guess they are actually people who have to do this for a living.
Yep. But I did find it abit overwhelming with the multitude of interns, shortly after just having only Zack for a long period of time. I believe Brennan was suppose to choose one in the beginning but it didn't end up that way.
However, it did lead to a different dynamic with the rest of the cast. Which was interesting.

Date: 2020-09-01 10:21 am (UTC)There are profilers who have to do that kind of work I guess. It wouldn't be pleasant.
I enjoyed all the interns, there was a good mix of personalities. Some I liked better than others, but they all brought something new and helped keep the show fresh.

Date: 2020-09-01 12:12 pm (UTC)He should work in fast food. There is so much food waste at the end of the day. It isn't funny.*sighs*
Richard Castle: There are two kinds of folks who sit around thinking about how to kill people: psychopaths and mystery writers. I'm the kind that pays better.
I actually wanted to study criminal psychology when I was younger but my mum said I shouldn't. Which I understood eventually.
Dr Oliver Wells: I'm a polymath. I can learn from anything.
And yet he couldn't get along with the rest of the folks at the Jeffersonian.*shrugs*

Date: 2020-09-01 07:27 pm (UTC)Yeah, I think it would be seriously disturbing!
Well was my least favourite. I liked Finn Abernathy best.

Date: 2020-09-02 05:59 am (UTC)Castle: Do I look like a killer to you?
Beckett: Yes, you kill my patience.
Getting into the mindset of someone like that. It could really mess with one's head.
It's no surprise that Brennan declined Oliver's offer to be friends. No one likes a "Know it all". Finn however was a nice, honest kind of guy moving on from his dark past. I didn't think much about his relationship with Michelle though. It was short-lived anyways.

Date: 2020-09-02 11:03 am (UTC)Yeah, you have to be a really stable, grounded person to handle that kind of job.
He was not a nice guy. Too arrogant. Finn was so lovely, just a really decent person. I actually really liked his relationship with Michelle. I was sad when they broke up because he was so devastated. He really loved her. =(
