Doctor Who Drabble: Hard Choice
Oct. 30th, 2018 05:22 pmTitle: Hard Choice
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Donna Noble, Tenth Doctor.
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 262: Epoch at
dw100.
Spoilers: Nada.
Summary: With all of time and space to choose from, where will Donna pick?
Disclaimer: I don’t own Doctor Who, or the characters.
“Where to; the far future, distant past, or another world? Take your pick, I can take you anywhere and any time!”
The Doctor’s enthusiasm was infectious, but how could Donna possibly choose? Where do you start when you have all of time and space spread out in front of you? There was so much to see and do…
It popped into her head out of nowhere. Not a distant world; that could wait. Another epoch, back when strange creatures roamed and the earth was still young.
“Dinosaurs! I want to see dinosaurs, like in Jurassic Park.”
The Doctor grinned. “Brilliant!”

Date: 2018-11-11 11:43 am (UTC)Yeah, I'm okay with romance in something as long as it's not the main focus.
It's called 'Escape Into Night', an adaptation of a novel called 'Marianne Dreams'. A movie was made from the same book, but called 'Paperhouse', but it was nowhere near as good or as creepy. My best friend and I used to watch it at her house after school, once a week. It's only available in black and white now though, the original colour version is probably landfill somewhere now, like so many old Doctor Who episodes.

Date: 2018-11-20 10:06 am (UTC)However it takes good banter and chemistry between actors to entertain me.
Wow, thanks for the information.:)

Date: 2018-11-20 11:38 am (UTC)Yes, and good acting, and a good setting. A plot helps too. (I'm really picky, aren't I? *grins*)

Date: 2018-11-27 11:07 am (UTC)That's a kids show?! :D
Nah! A plot has to be thick to be good.:)

Date: 2018-11-27 05:45 pm (UTC)Something you can really get your teeth into. I've been watching Stan Lee's Lucky Man, and that has so much plot I'm still not sure who's good, who's bad, or what's happening. It's good though.

Date: 2018-11-30 10:56 am (UTC)I don't recall the latter. Maybe I saw the commercial. I'll have to see if I can come across it. I don't have Foxtel anymore. Its the free to air program for me at the moment.

Date: 2018-11-30 12:54 pm (UTC)I only watch freeview channels, but your channels are no doubt different to the ones available here.

Date: 2018-12-01 12:42 pm (UTC)Yeah, I feel like I'm back in the eighties and early nineties. Some people buy DVDS because it's more convenient. I can't even record any shows.:(
I'm missing out on the new series of Doctor Who!

Date: 2018-12-01 08:01 pm (UTC)Same here, although I'm watching a few up to date or at least more recent things.
I can't record either. I get some things on DVD when I can afford them.
Part of me wants to say... you're not missing much. She's i,proved a bit since the first episode, and I don't hate her, but I still think a female Doctor...doesn't appeal to me. Maybe with a different actress I would have liked her better but I think she's just trying too hard.

Date: 2018-12-04 12:07 am (UTC)Well, thanks for your honest opinion. I had a feeling that was the case. I watched "Whovians" anyway, which is a show that is by dedicated fans who review Doctor Who. That's the vibe I was getting there too. Which is a shame.:(

Date: 2018-12-04 12:46 pm (UTC)So maybe it's a slow burn with her characterisation. I at least hope so. I wish I knew why the actress was hired specifically to get a better feel of her.:(

Date: 2018-12-04 08:04 pm (UTC)I've caught a few re-runs of tenth Doctor episodes recently, on Saturday it was The Idiot's Lantern, not one of the better episodes, but when Ten gets in the bigoted dad's face, he's riveting, he exudes danger, you can believe in that, he's scary. Thirteen is about as scary as a fluffy little kitten, cute but not threatening.

Date: 2018-12-06 11:47 am (UTC)I'm just trying to remember how they handled the Master/Missy thing. There really wasn't a need to change the name. Besides trying to hide the fact that Missy was the Master. After that...
Yes. David Tennant has the angry/shouty thing going on. I've seen him in other roles where he does it at slightly different variables.
He can be so cheerful one moment then switched to threatening in an instant.
While Twelve will just say something in an understated way. The intimidation is through his reputation.
I think Eleven did some of that too. He could become reckless if he didn't have someone traveling with him.

Date: 2018-12-06 12:18 pm (UTC)With Missy, you always had that background sense of danger, and all the male Doctors had the sense that he was not someone you wanted to get on the wrong side of.
Being quietly menacing is still menacing. Thirteen could't scare a mouse. That's just my opinion of course, others might feel differently.
She'd make a better companion than a Doctor.

Date: 2018-12-08 07:09 am (UTC)Thirteen runs like a penguin. He got the short end of the stick in that regeneration. I was just glad that the Doctor was going to be portrayed by a man who wouldn't be just seen as "eye candy". Well, what do I really know? Everybody has a different tastes.*shrugs*
She is not even feisty like past companions are described as.

Date: 2018-12-08 11:36 am (UTC)Thirteen is just forgettable. You're right, she's not feisty, she not much of anything.

Date: 2018-12-12 10:18 am (UTC)I still miss Nine! :(
I can't imagine Thirteen as an equal to Missy. I could see it with the other incarnations. We saw it with Twelve at least.

Date: 2018-12-12 11:17 am (UTC)Sadly, Thirteen just doesn't come across as a forceful enough personality.

Date: 2018-12-13 01:07 am (UTC)I was kind of hoping the female Doctor would be like Missy except with a more clearer sense of morality.

Date: 2018-12-13 11:15 am (UTC)Bill deserved longer.

Date: 2018-12-13 11:24 am (UTC)I remember Twelve told Clara to change her shoes once, because they weren't practical.:)
It would have been nice to have seen Bill interact with the new Doctor. Her storyline was mainly about the fact she wasn't straight.*shrugs*

Date: 2018-12-13 06:04 pm (UTC)I guess it will be. I like the coat, but then I love all the long used in the Whoniverse.

Date: 2018-12-14 02:24 am (UTC)Clara and Amy were obviously confident when it came to flirting. Clara went on "both buses" if I were to think from Donna's mindset.:)
The Doctor always has to have a cool coat. Jacket in Nines case. All that leather! :)

Date: 2018-12-14 12:07 pm (UTC)I liked Nine's jacket a lot, but Jack's coat is my favourite. =)
