Doctor Who Drabble: Hard Choice

Summary: With all of time and space to choose from, where will Donna pick?

“Where to; the far future, distant past, or another world? Take your pick, I can take you anywhere and any time!”


The Doctor’s enthusiasm was infectious, but how could Donna possibly choose? Where do you start when you have all of time and space spread out in front of you? There was so much to see and do…


It popped into her head out of nowhere. Not a distant world; that could wait. Another epoch, back when strange creatures roamed and the earth was still young.


“Dinosaurs! I want to see dinosaurs, like in Jurassic Park.”


The Doctor grinned. “Brilliant!”

Yes, everybody has their preferences. I like Eleven best because he's funny and dorky, but dangerous when he needs to be. I ended up liking Twelve, he was totally tactless but Peter Capaldi did a good job.

Thirteen is just forgettable. You're right, she's not feisty, she not much of anything.

Yes, every Doctor had their strengths and weaknesses. It's a shame that the gender change hasn't made the impact it could have had. Let alone reinventing the Doctor once again.

I still miss Nine! :(

I can't imagine Thirteen as an equal to Missy. I could see it with the other incarnations. We saw it with Twelve at least.

I can't imagine her standing up to any version of the Master. And she' getting at least one more season. *sigh* I'm just completely underwhelmed, but I DO like the companions, so I'm still watching.

Sadly, Thirteen just doesn't come across as a forceful enough personality.

I have one thing to look forward too which is the companions. Bill had a short time on the TARDIS, so much like the Ninth Doctor's.

I was kind of hoping the female Doctor would be like Missy except with a more clearer sense of morality.

So was I, because Missy was a really compelling character, but this Doctor... Of course you might wind up feeling differently when you get to see her in action. The one thing I do like about her is the costume, they didn't dress her up all sexy and impractical, they put her in clothes that she can run in and that will stand up to conditions on alien planets

Bill deserved longer.

I remember Twelve told Clara to change her shoes once, because they weren't practical.:)

It would have been nice to have seen Bill interact with the new Doctor. Her storyline was mainly about the fact she wasn't straight.*shrugs*

Yes, true, and while I applaud the fact that she was a gay character they could have done so much more with her story.

I guess it will be. I like the coat, but then I love all the long used in the Whoniverse.

That's the thing with Moffat's era, compared to Rusty's. The vast difference to how they write the characters backstory.

Clara and Amy were obviously confident when it came to flirting. Clara went on "both buses" if I were to think from Donna's mindset.:)

The Doctor always has to have a cool coat. Jacket in Nines case. All that leather! :)

Flirting seems quite common for a companion - Rose was flirty too, and then thee was Jack, who was in a class of his own!

I liked Nine's jacket a lot, but Jack's coat is my favourite. =)

Yes, they all had encounters. Donna and Lee's interaction was the most innocent.

Rose flirted in front of Nine, then it was the other way around with Ten. At that point she was committed to him whilst wanting Mickey to be around for her too.

Yes, Jack's coat is the most striking.:)

It depends on the occasion though.

Like a lot of teens, Rose wanted it all.

I think half the time the Doctor doesn't even realise the way he behaves can be seen as flirting. He got on Jack's case for it but he does it himself.

Yes, Rose was flawed on purpose. Took Mickey for granted because he was always there for her. Mickey too, in away.

It was for the best because we saw they were better off just as close friends in the end.

The Doctor is the exception to the rule of course.:)

I still felt bad for Mickey, he was a good guy. I watched the last two of Rose's episodes last night, Army of Ghosts and Doomsday. I felt for Rose, and for the Doctor at being separated but I felt for H+Jackie too, knowing her only child would rather never see her again tan give up travelling the universe.

Yeah, it I guess Rose really did have more to benefit from the relationship. In the first episode Rose was moving back with her mum after a failed relationship with an older man. Daddy issues much?

Mickey was always going to be second place if someone more older or wiser were to come along.

Jackie always put her daughter first. I could never leave my mum for a man like Rose did. No matter how amazing he is.

Abandoning the person who nurtured you is a big "no, no" in my book!*waves pointer finger*

The Doctor had to leave the metacrisis Doctor for Rose because she didn't get it!

The poor metacrisis Doctor didn't even get a say in the matter, he was tossed at Rose like a consolation prize. One thing I didn't like about Ten was the casual way he played with other people's lives, He did the same with Jack and Alonso. Jack loses his lover and the Doctor hands him a replacement, and poor Alonso, the Doctor had no use for him so he shunts responsibility onto Jack, who's grieving for Ianto and definitely doesn't need a new lover.

Rose did seem to prefer older men, you could be right about the daddy issues. Ad Jackie was such a good mum, she deserved more appreciation from her daughter.

I never abandoned my mum, I couldn't have although it was hard looking after her following her stroke.

Oh gosh! I loathe the purpose of the Metacrisis Doctor. He should of stayed with Donna somehow! :(

Yes, Ten could be an arrogant so and so. It's not just his sloppy match making skills. It's ruining Harriet Smith's political career that really rubbed me the wrong way.

Well, we know it was deliberately planned out to blow up in his face. RTD may favour Rose but he did address that fact. Conflict equals drama, hence storytelling.

Let's just say I tried to be self aware in regards to Daddy issues. I had a friend who told me to think of him as a father figure. I thought that was just his way of telling me what to do.*shrugs*

Personally I find that saying very strange. A girl grows up without the love of her father so decides to get into a relationship with an older man to fill that void?

I'm sorry if I'm getting alittle too psychological.:(

People are just weird. I think in some cases it might be subconscious, searching for something they missed out on, but some people are just attracted to age and experience. Everyone's different.

Conflict is good for drama, but I think RTD overdid it, and also used such methods to cover up poor plotting and lack of character development. That's just my opinion.

I hated the way Ten ruined Harriet, and I didn't even understand why. It just seemed to me like petty revenge because she did something he didn't like. Humans standing up for themselves.

Yes, I understand what you mean. It's when people don't turn out to be what you thought they were, is when it goes downhill. It ends up being a part of life experience.

RTD really did turn the angst up a notch. The Doctor couldn't be happy for long. Sometimes from his own doing.

Harriet Jones was mistreated for the purpose of bringing the Master back. I still wish it didn't happen that way.

Me too, Harriet deserved better!

I think RTD must be a deeply miserable person because he wants everything to b doom and gloom, no happy endings (except for his precious Gwen), just defeat, death, and destruction. Someone should have reminded him that Doctor Who is for kids and families, not just for adult fans, and anyway we like to see happy things.

All of life is a lesson though; the day we stop learning is the day we stop living.

I think Moffat should have wrote more in other episodes instead of having those stand alone ones during the Rusty era. It may have balance the emotional aspect of the storyline.

Moffatt did have a far better balance, but Rusty called the shots while he was in charge so I guess other writers didn't have much of a say in setting the tone.

I miss Nine, I know many people like Ten best but he's near the bottom of my list. I did love him, but there were aspects of his personality that I didn't like.

It's Moffat that convinced Rusty to let the Doctors daughter Jenny live. Although it seems unlikely there will be continuity from it.

Nine will always have a soft spot in my heart because he was the first Doctor I started with. Donna is the reason I tolerated Ten.

Series 2 and 3 was always about Rose. I know it was done on purpose but still. I just kept reminding myself Ten use to be Nine.

It's good that he was able to save one character from Rusty's kiss of death.

It annoyed more that so much revolved around Rose. Once again it was a case of Rusty removing the focus from the star of the show in favour of his pet character.

Donna was one of the best characters.

On first watch there were alot of things that didn't bother me. But on rewatch...

Well, it's over now, to never be done that way ever.

I know Catherine Tate isn't everyone's cup of tea but she certainly had/has chemistry with David Tennant. Their real life friendship made them fun to watch as the Doctor and Donna.:)

It applies to Rusty too though. Trouble is so few people have the guts to tell him 'no'.

I'll admit I don't like Catherine Tate in anything else, I don't find her so called comedy shows funny at all, but with Doctor Who she proved she could do drama and tug at people's heartstrings. She's what a companion should be, sassy, smart, brave, but with insecurities. Someone people can relate to.
