I've Got Middle Age Spread! 0.0
Jun. 10th, 2013 04:42 pmI have a pair of jeans that I always wear when I go out because they fit me perfectly and they're just sooooo comfortable (I've been wearing them for 35 years), but now they're developing fashionable tears and I'm at an age where I prefer my clothes not to have holes in them that aren't meant to be there.
So, long story short, I went digging in my wardrobe to find out what trousers I can wear tomorrow... and horror of horrors, HARDLY ANYTHING FITS!!!!
My gorgeous stripy jeans that I adore won't do up, neither will my pretty pale pink pair, which are labelled size 14, but they can't be because I'm a size 12 and they don't fit and if they're size 14 then they damn well SHOULD fit! I AM still a size 12, damnit! Except around the middle apparently.
I've had to throw out three other pairs as well... (okay, one pair fitted but they're vile and I don't even remember where they came from, probably mum's cast-offs).
I did find two pairs of jeans that fastened but were a bit tight, one pair that are comfortable but have ridiculously shallow pockets (I need good pockets), and one pair that have deep pockets and fit quite well (and have elastic in the waist). But they DO fit, so I guess I know what I'm wearing tomorrow.
But I have Middle Age Spread! When did that happen? Come to think of it, when did I reach middle age?
Woe.
*crawls off to mope*

Date: 2013-06-10 05:39 pm (UTC)I hate it when favourite clothes wear out or I find I just don't fit in them anymore, but some of the things that turn up are very odd, lol!
I have very thin and wonky legs, so I prefer narrow-legged trousers, otherwise I look ridiculous, but I've always thought To Hell with fashion, I just wear what feels comfortable. I don't think I've ever been in style in my entire life!

Date: 2013-06-10 05:48 pm (UTC)No point saving any of the trousers in hopes of ever fitting in them again though, I think that ship has sailed. I probably look like a kid's drawing of a person - a potato with a head and stick thin arms and legs. *sigh* I don't think anyone makes clothes for that shape =(
We might as well accept that we're doomed never to be the way we used to be when we were young... To think I used to have a 17 inch waist. Now it's closer to 37!

*hugs back* That's life, I guess. There's no going back.

Date: 2013-06-10 07:03 pm (UTC)I'm flying to Florida next week and I purposely upgraded to first class so I'd have more hip room! Those economy seats are actually torture devices for anyone with any sort of hip, I swear.

Ah, the joys of getting older. The rest of me is still really skinny though. I'm not a standard shape by any stretch or the imagination. I'd probably pass as an orangutan if you covered me in ginger fur. =/

Date: 2013-06-10 07:14 pm (UTC)After I hurt my foot last year I packed on some weight (was heavy to begin with). I know I should lose the weight but part of me has no motivation to.
Good luck with your eye exam.

Date: 2013-06-10 10:05 pm (UTC)I lack motivation for everything, I'm a great procrastinator.
Most of me is still really skinny, just not around the middle anymore. I never had much shape to start with but I seem to have lost it all now. Oh well, I guess that's how it goes once you're past 50.
I want to get new glasses! I just wish I didn't have to pay for them, they're always so expensive!

Date: 2013-06-10 07:32 pm (UTC)The great spring early summer closet purge this weekend ended in a few favorites departing before their time and the knowledge that someone in my former size range is going to hit pay-dirt in the donation bin.
I'm approaching it as - don't dwell on the number on the tag as much as whether or not I feel cute/pretty/fashionable in it. It sounds like a cliche - but size is just a number; 0, 6, 12, or 24, doesn't matter as long as your clothes fit well and you have the confidence to pull them off. I am sure no matter what size you wear, you are gonna look great!

Date: 2013-06-10 10:16 pm (UTC)It's awful to throw out favourite clothes, I hate doing it, but there's really no point keeping things that don't fasten anymore, so I have to just grit my teeth. Haven't cleared out the whole closet, I have that dubious pleasure for another day, i just really needed to find something for tomorrow.
The weird thing is, if people go by my waist measurement, in this country, going by the guidelines that have been set up, I would probably be classed as clinically obese when I am actually about a stone underweight for my height because of long-term health issues. I just seem to have started bulging around the middle since I hit 50. Same thing happened to my mum so I really should have been expecting it I suppose. It still comes as a shock though.
Glad to see you're still around, you've been rather quiet of late. Hope you're keeping well!

Date: 2013-06-10 10:55 pm (UTC)I have so many clothes in my wardrobe that I really should throw out, but every summer I think, 'this year I'm going to loose some weight.' Never happens, obviously!
I'm reasonably slim, and do a fair bit of sport - mainly to compensate for all the cake I eat. I have such a sweet tooth - I know it's bad for me, but I can't help myself! But any weight I do put on goes straight to my stomach. My flabby muffin-top is not a good look! (And I haven't even had children yet and I hear it only gets worse when you do!)

Who knows, maybe this will be your year! Better not throw any of those clothes out just yet ;)

Date: 2013-06-12 06:04 pm (UTC)Apparently there's no cure for getting older. I'd be sagging if I had anything to sag with. My middle is trying, but there's not even enough of that for a good sag, just enough to keep my clothes from fitting. And I've been working in the garden for several hours ever day, doing heavy pruning, but even that hasn't had any effect, except for making everything hurt. I'd like to stop getting older now please. I can't afford to keep buying new clothes all the time and it's hard to find any trousers the right length for my stumpy little legs that actually fit the other parts. >=/

Date: 2013-06-14 06:23 pm (UTC)I only got to spend half an hour out there today before it started raining again *sigh* Can't make much progress in 30 minutes. I'll try to get some pics up soon. Not today though - i have to load them on the computer, then re-size and crop the ones I want to post... takes a while!

Date: 2013-06-14 10:10 pm (UTC)Well, some of the freen is good - and some is weeds and brambles =(
It's good for wildlife though! We have a pond. Somewhere. There used to be paths too, but they're kinda overgrown... And it's raining again, which isn't so bad now because it's night so I couldn't be out gardening anyway.

Date: 2013-06-17 10:08 pm (UTC)A little overgrown? The hedge is about 5 foot taller than it should be, the shrubs are bigger than that, there are brambles everywhere, the paths are hiden under 3 foot tall plants and there are trees growing in the hedge, honking great 15 foot Maples that are most definitely NOT supposed to be there.
I did a gardening course by mail years ago, very interesting, I learned a lot. I've been gardening since I was old enough to hold a trowel though, went through a lot of little kids' sets of gardening tools starting when I was about 4, had my own patch of garden to grow whatever I wanted. Unfortunately, all I do these days is try to find the garden beneath the jungle that's taken over.
