Title: Marriage Of Convenience
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Twelfth Doctor, River, King Hydroflax.
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 084: Charade at
dw100.
Spoilers: The Husbands Of River Song.
Summary: It’s bad enough that River doesn’t recognise him, but finding she’s married someone else in his absence…
Disclaimer: I don’t own Doctor Who, or the characters.
It comes as something of a relief to realise that River’s ‘marriage’ to the monstrous and very untidy King Hydroflax is a sham, a charade, an act to keep her close to him until she figures out a way to get at the priceless diamond lodged in his brain.
Now that’s the River the Doctor knows, sneaky, unprincipled, larcenous, and attracted to shiny things. The universe isn’t about to implode after all; it just seemed like it might for a bit.
On the other hand, she’s talking about murdering someone… Perhaps he shouldn’t have left her alone for so long.

Date: 2016-09-17 01:42 pm (UTC)That why the character of Gwen didn't work:
(1)RTD specifically wrote Eve in mind of Gwen.Limited acting range.
(2)RTD created the character of Gwen with no hardships, skills or further development
Gwen made some offhand comment on why the Doctor wasn't there but that was her assumption. We should have had a reason like he was fobwatched, busy with something major or it really was a fixed point.
Torchwood was made a scapegoat and there should have been a scene that pointed out the Queen wasn't always in the know of what the secret government was covering. RTD ignored some plot holes to make his story work.
I can't believe we still have to wait for the next series to even come back. If only we had a time machine...
There should be a reboot that states that the last two series were only a dream so Torchwood could be redeemed. John Barrowman should have gotten better material than this.
In every show the main characters always have allies or consultants they can rely on when the situation becomes dire. RTD probably thought he was being clever by making that Indian doctor a traitor in COE.
I don't like being this judgemental but I'm can't help feeling disappointed.:(

Date: 2016-09-17 10:45 pm (UTC)To be honest, I don't want another series of Torchwood, not in the direction it's been going, because it'll be the Gwen Show with Jack playing a supporting role. Why can'y RTD and Eve get it through their heads that the fans don't want more Gwen?
You're right, it was inevitable that Gwen would be a crap character.

Date: 2016-09-18 02:01 am (UTC)Tenth Doctor:In the end, you just get tired; tired of the struggle, tired of losing everyone that matters to you...
That was Jacks story. He always pushed Gwen away. Everyone else that was a main part of his life were killed off.
I only wanted one scene that shows Jack has some peace in the future. I guess I have to settle for the Face of Boe to be that happy ending.

Date: 2016-09-18 11:37 am (UTC)The message should have been that Jack can learn to love someone worthy again and Gwen just becomes family to him.
The End.
It says something that we are discussing how unsatisfying a show was after how many years after it aired.

Date: 2016-09-18 08:43 pm (UTC)Gwen does not deserve Jack. She doesn't deserve Rhys either, considering how badly she treats him.

Date: 2016-09-19 01:19 pm (UTC)The serious ones start out in theater. Usually actors will mention their route to acting in interviews.
David Boreanaz got discovered while walking his dog.
Isla Fisher went to clown school etc..
But really I think it comes down to if a person has the skill or not.

Date: 2016-09-19 09:17 pm (UTC)Colin Firth: I don’t think there is any such thing as ‘just acting,’ especially if it’s any good. The material is yourself. Someone else writes some words, and then what you’ve got is what you’ve got … body, your face.
That’s what you work with and that has to be you reacting to this other person or character. Whatever comes out of it is the result of that relationship.
The more you make it personal, the more authentic you have the chance of being. So whether your approach is purely technical, or you choose a method approach, if it’s any good there has to be a personal component to it.
Long but logical.:)
I figured you would know the David Boreanaz story. His one is an example of a actor who was approached because of their looks but the rest is up to them.
Katie McGrath was going into fashion but was approached and asked if she wanted to act.
Tina Cousins was a model but was asked if she could sing.
Models get into acting because they get bored of the industry.
I never been approach for my looks, at least not for those reasons.*pretends to sulk*
In regards to Gwen,it is disappointing. If an actor isn't qualified enough, they usually get more lessons with a private coach. If she is talking in a normal manner than she is tolerable.
You could also say that for any job.

Date: 2016-09-20 11:54 am (UTC)I've always though modelling would be very boring indeed. No one's ever come up to me and asked if I'd like to be a model, but if they ever had, I would've said 'No.' I'm not that interested in clothes, I hate having my picture taking, and I don't want to stand around posing.
Lessons only help if someone wants to learn from them.

When I was younger I thought it would been an easy job. But models have a short shelf life and they have to be willing to get naked in public.
I think it goes both ways. But it does help if people listen to the teacher and there is a level of understanding, otherwise whats the point?

Date: 2016-09-30 07:12 pm (UTC)I've always thought modelling would be hard, having to stand out in whatever weather the photographer wanted, early calls, hours in make-up, standing in poses for who knows how long... The same with acting, you really have to be passionate about it to go through what actors do.

Madonna: Strike a poise there's nothing to it . Vogue!*sings*
Not!. Models do have to be very patient. Mentally and physically. Its more than just "pouting" at the camera as Rory was saying to Amy. The one time she didn't slap him.:D
Revising lines for an actor must be like when you have to be trained at work to do a new task. I had to remember how to make all sorts of meals when I worked in fast food. It takes time to learn new things.

Date: 2016-09-19 02:09 am (UTC)I liked Colon Fifths take on what an actor contributes to a script.
Sadly, there are probably real life versions of Gwen out there in the world.

Date: 2016-09-19 01:23 pm (UTC)I'm sorry to hear that. My mum doesn't get on with her youngest sister. My aunts always been the rebel in the family. She caused my grandparents a lot of trouble in her teen years.

Date: 2016-09-19 09:22 pm (UTC)I thinks its more to do with how my grandparents were easy on my aunt but expected more from my mum. One time my aunt gave my grandfather the silent treatment. She ended up spoiled. She is not that much older than me so I don't really see her as an aunt more as a relative.
I'm glad I have my brother. I think the issues with our dad made us close. Besides our mums guidance.

Date: 2016-09-20 11:59 am (UTC)The youngest often gets spoiled, especially if they're a lot younger than their siblings. My best friend at school was the youngest of three, he brother was at least 210 years older, and her sister older still. Her parents hadn't planned a third child and they spoiled her thoroughly, her mum did everything for her. she was still a lovely person though, unlike a lot of spoiled kids, and a very good friend for years.

Its just me and my brother and being the youngest means I get sheltered from some things but doesn't mean that I like it. We are adults and my brother is overprotective sometimes.
