Real Life Drama *rolls eyes*

I've had one hell of a day!

Woke up early this morning (before 7am), checked the clock to see if it was time to get up and found I could barely see the numbers. Vision in my right eye was very blurred and my pupils were different sizes. Needless to say, I panicked a bit. The chimney sweep was due at 11am and I had no idea what was wrong with me, so I called the out of hours medical number. They told me to go to the hospital Accident and Emergency department to get checked out, so my neighbours drove me there, the wife stayed with me and the husband returned home to deal with the sweep if I he showed up while I wasn't there.

I was asked questions, my eyes were looked at, (pupils mostly back to normal) and blood pressure taken (that weas fine), then I was told I should go to my GP. So neighbour's husband picked us up from the hospital  and we stopped off at the surgery on the way home, they said to come back just before noon and they'd try to fit me in.

Went home, dealt with the chimney sweep, the neighbour took me to the doctor. (I'd called my boyfriend early on, only to discover that he was over 100 miles away at the coast, but said he'd come back because I was so worried and rather up the creek with everything. He caught up to me at the surgery).

Saw my regular doc, Dr. C, and he said I should have gone to eye casualty at the hospital where they could have checked my eye pressure. Why did no one tell me that while I was AT the hospital? Then he said I should see my optician to get my eye pressure checked. The hospital had told me it wasn't worth going to the optician because they'd just tell me to go to my doctor. So, I've been given the runaround, and the wrong advice by everyone except Dr. C. and now I have to go to the optician tomorrow. *headdesk*

My boyfriend did buy me some lovely flowers while he was doing the shopping though, so there's that.

Doc thinks I might have had an acute glaucoma attack (rise in eye pressure because the eye isn't draining properly). Just what I need. I'm already waiting to have blood tests to try to find out what's causing some other health issues, now this. I just can't win. Didn't get home to stay until after 1pm and now I have to go out again in the morning.

Sometimes life just sucks =(

Ah well, at least I know where to go if it happens again.

Thanks *hugs* I'm not having a lot of fun at the moment, but hopefully the tests will point to something easy to fix. First, I have the optician's tomorrow, which I could have done without.

It never ceases to amaze me at the incompetence of a lot of the medical profession. I've had knee pain for years due to arthritis, almost had surgery, and Tuesday my rheumatologist's nurse practitioner asked if no one had ever suggested cortisone shots. No. Had them. Knee pain gone. Someone could not have mentioned this years ago? I don't know how they train medical professionals anymore, but it is truly the luck of the draw if you get someone who actually has a clue. Advocate for yourself, and always ask lots of questions. Hope this turns out to be nothing to major for you.

It really is ridiculous! No one knows what anyone else is doing. Thank God for Dr C, who is brilliant.

Glad you got shots that help your knees, you should hav had them years ago though, that's so unfair.

Sometimes I think medical professionals just forget they are dealing with human beings who are afraid and in pain. We're not just social security number. :(. I hope your appointment will go well and your results are okay. *hugs*

This is so true. My rheumatologist has a big sign that says no one should have to be in pain, but then refuses to prescribe anything that might work, and we are left with over-the-counter things that don't. Excuse me?

That's appalling. :( I'm currently suffering from calcaneal spur. It's very painful and I have great difficulty walking. All they prescribed to me was orthopaedic soles and to wait until december to see if it has any positive effect. Great! And in the meantime, what do I do? I grit my teeth and pretend everything is just perfect. After three months, if it doesn't work, we could contemplate physiotherapy. Why only after three months?

Oh wow. *hugs* I hope it's something simple to deal with. Messing with your eyesight is just so scary. Hopefully it will turn out just fine.

Thank you *hugs back* Might just be an occasional problem. I've had blurred vision in that eye first thing in the morning a couple of other times, but without the pupil discrepancy. If it is attacks of acute glaucoma, they'd be able to give me eye drops to use if it happens again. Thing is, I had my eyes tested just in July, and my eye pressure was fine, so... *sigh* Such fun. Not.

My mom has Glaucoma she uses daily eye drops which keeps it under control.

Both my parents had glaucoma. I had to put mum's drops in for years until she learned to do it herself.

Thankfully, it seems that I don't have it, at least not at the moment. My eyes checked out fine so it seems to have been just a temporary glitch =)

Oh dear! You poor thing, that must have been scary. Lucky for having such lovely neighbours to help you out. Hope things have settled down a bit now and that they can give you something to stop it from happening again!

Well, no one knows why it happened in the first place, so it could happen again, but my eyes have been thoroughly checked and they're fine. Seems to have been just a random glitch, scary but mostly harmless. *shrugs* My body is annoying.

So sorry to know that. I understand you move than well. Doctors believe they can send us from one place to another just to check. I wonder if they got their diplomas at a kiosk instead of at university.
Don't worry, everything will be fine and some simple eyedrops will have your pressure under control.

It was more worrying than anything, though it did make me feel a bit disoriented. The optician did a very thorough examination of both eyes though and couldn't find anything wrong, he said it's just one of those things, it can happen sometimes but as long as it's not associated with eye pain or a bump on the head, it's nothing to worry about, just a temporary glitch. *shrugs*

My body hates me. My eyes are fine but I'm awaiting tests for other stuff.

It's weird how you can become allergic to something you've been fine with most of your life. Still, there are always antihistamines. I know. I take 'em myself.

I don't post in order on LJ, that probably makes it harder to figure out where you got to. But with the drabbles you can just jump in anywhere if you ever have time to read.

It's nice to know that you have so many people on you're side, and are there for you.

The tests came back fine, my eyes are okay, the optician says it's just one of those things and as long as there's no eye pain or redness, there's nothing to worry about. I could have done without all the drama though!

Thank you! I'm still waiting for other medical tests for other reasons, but that's not until next Monday when I go for blood tests. Meantime, It's Challenge Week, so I've got writing to do! YAY!

Challenge Week is easy compared to Contest Week, I've completed the first challenge, so I'm off to a good start =)

I'm reassured that the optician could find nothing wrong with my eyes (besides the fact that I'm short-sighted, which is why I wear glasses). Hopefully the next tests will reveal something easily treatable so that I can feel better.

I'm certainly still having a lot of fun with writing. I still have a lot of WiPs I should get finished, but I've been getting distracted from them by the current challenges. I wrote three pieces for fan_flashworks this time and the new challenge there should be up tomorrow. I've done the first two daily challenges at fic_promptly, another challenge will be posted later today, then there will be two more this week... Maybe next week I'll get back to my WiPs!

I will, but I won't get the results until next Friday at the earliest. Blood tests are next Monday. Meantime, I have plenty to do, getting ready for Halloween!
