I needed a bithday card in a hurry....

Mum helpfully informed me this morning (the day AFTER I'd been to the shops) that it's my Uncle's birthday in a couple of days - and of course, I didn't have a suitable card.

So, out came the craft bits and pieces and I quickly made one. Not very manly, granted, but I'm still pleased with how it turned out since it was such a rush job.

I have a lot of floral stuff for card making, but precious little that's really suitable for a man (though my uncle's in his mid-eighties and not really into cars or sports etc anyway!) I just hope it arrives in one piece (the post office is not to be trusted!) and that it doesn't fall apart (glue can't always be trusted either =S )

I think a man in his mid-eighties is entitled to enjoy some butterflies and fluff occasionally. I mean, if you can't then, when can you?

Heat? What heat? It's freezing here in the British midlands, my fingers are like blocks of ice. British summertime is an ongoing joke! I should be thankful it's not raining today. A few days ago we had a month's rain in 24 hours.

Seriously? Wow. We've been baking under an extended heat-wave here in the East Coast of the U.S., and the rest of the country is much the same. I'd be happy to send you some of it if I could!

I'm not sure I'd want a heatwave either - too much heat saps my energy, I can't regulate my body temperature proberly, some sort of medical thing, I dunno. The rain is the worst though - there are floods everywhere, all across Britain. We're lucky we don't live in a flood risk area, but anyone living near a river is in serious trouble. Still, I think there are areas in Russia that are even worse off when it comes to flooding, I heard somewhere got hit by THREE months' worth of rain in a day. Honestly, the entire world needs to knuckle down and do something about combatting climate change. Stopping all those huge firework displays would be a good start.

Well, my uncle's always been a bit fussy.... though not as much as my late aunt!

Some of the bits I used only arrived today - I've been spending too much on ebay again, re-stocking my craft supplies. Not my fault though, everything is too tempting! Well, that's my excuse ;)

Oh wow - I think that looks really great! Much better than my attempts at homemade cards usually turn out (mine always end up looking like a 5 year old made them :P). It looks really nice though - I'm sure your uncle will love it. :)

Thank you! I really hope so... There are a few glue smudges (the stuff gets everywhere), which there might not have been if I hadn't been trying to do everything so fast, but I'm still pleased with it, especially that I managed to find colours that more or less matched. I'm still a novice cardmaker when I don't have a cross stich picture as the centrepiece, but I'm learning.

Thank you, I hope he does. I always seem to be trying to make cards at the last minute. I wish I could be more organised. It didn't help that I had to go through loads of boxes looking for bits and pieces I could put together to make a card. I have lots of crafting supplies, they're just all over the place =S

Thankyou! It turned out quite well for a quicky. I've been buying a lot of ready cut-out shapes, they really speed things up! All I had to do was pick out a few that matched reasonably well and glue them on a card. I would have liked to take more time with it, but I had to catch the last post of the day so it would arrive on time.

Thank you! I'm lucky that I have loads of cut-out shapes and things, so it's just a case of finding a few that look good together and sticking them on a card. It really speeds up the process! Finding the bits took longer than sticking them, I was rather spoilt for choice, lol! Ebay has a lot to answer for! There are so many new cut-out shapes and pretty papers on the market, and being an itchy-fingered crafter, I find myself buying way too many. I wish I had friends around here I could have over for crafting sessions. It would be so much fun!

I still don't know if he even got it! Usually he phones to sday thankyou, but I guess he's getting a bit forgetful - either that or it hasn't been delivered yet. The British Postal Service is nowhere near as good as it used to be.

Glad to hear you like it anyway! I adore butterflies, I have bought so many different butterflies for my cardmaking it's getting a bit ridiculous, but they're so pretty I can't resist! I've also bought some cute pigs, frogs and elephants, 'cause I like silly things =)

The British Postal Service couldn't possibly be worse than the US. Postal Service! LOL! We call it snail-mail.....you may know that already though.

I'm sure he loved the card. It is so pretty. ;) I am bad to save emails to these posts and come back to them instead of always answering them right away, especially right now. I loved it even when I didn't comment. (Did I meantion my brain is toast?) lol!
