Title: Gone
Fandom: BtVS
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Joyce, Buffy.
Rating: PG
Written For: Challenge 046: Mind at doubledrabbles.
Spoilers/Setting: Becoming Part 2.
Summary: Buffy has run away and all Joyce wants is for her daughter to come home.
Disclaimer: I don’t own BtVS, or the characters. They belong to the wonderful Joss Whedon.
A/N: Double drabble.
Joyce is slowly going out of her mind; she doesn’t know her little girl anymore. Buffy claimed she’s a Slayer, whatever that is, insisted that vampires and demons are real, and that she had to stop her ex-boyfriend Angel from ending the world, or something. Maybe it’s Buffy who’s lost her mind; a bad break-up, especially after what happened between her parents, might have pushed her over the edge.
In retrospect, giving Buffy an ultimatum was the wrong way to handle things. If Joyce had tried to be more sympathetic and understanding, perhaps if she’d offered to go with her daughter to confront Angel instead of telling Buffy not to bother coming back if she left… Of all the times Joyce had screwed up as a parent that was hands down the worst. She hadn’t even meant it, not really; she’d simply been trying to shock her daughter back to reality, make her see sense. It had backfired spectacularly.
Now Buffy’s gone, run away from home. She must have slipped back during the night, thrown a few things in a bag, and left. Joyce has no idea where her daughter is, or if she’s okay.
She just wants Buffy back.

Date: 2020-09-01 06:41 am (UTC)For children that usually is the case. On the sitcom "Absolutely Fabulous", the mother was always taking stuff from her daughters house.
Oh Xander with his naivety.:)

Date: 2020-09-01 10:23 am (UTC)I think most kids shoplift at some point.
I wanted to hug Xander. He screwed up but he meant well.

Date: 2020-09-01 11:40 am (UTC)Michael Westen: [voice-over] When you're burned, you've got nothing: no cash, no credit, no job history. You're stuck in whatever city they decide to dump you in.
I know Michael wanted to clear his name. But I understood Fiona's distain for the spy world too.
Parents have to teach them stealing is wrong. Find out why they stole and teach them how to earn things in the right way.
At least Xander wasn't being selfish like with the love spell last time.

Date: 2020-09-01 07:37 pm (UTC)My parents taught us well, but my sister still shoplifted, she stole chocolate from the corner shop one day while I was with her. I don't thin I stole anything from a shop, but I stole money from my parents, just a few pence here and there. I got caught though and told off.
Yeah, Xander just wanted some happy for everyone.

Date: 2020-09-02 05:13 am (UTC)My dad wasn't working but my mum was. As much as my sweet tooth was, I wouldn't dare go through with it. They have really upped the security these days.
Xander: Well that’s the funny thing about me, I tend to hear the actual words people say and accept them at face value.
Anya: That’s stupid.
Xander: I can accept that.”

Date: 2020-09-02 11:10 am (UTC)Xander was so open and honest, but perhaps a bit naive to expect honesty back.

Date: 2020-09-02 01:15 pm (UTC)Have you ever ran out of the shops after having your first kiss, without paying for a shopping item by accident? No? Well, either have I. Only in "Gilmore Girls".
Sometimes kids plead with their parents for sweets that are obviously place in an enticing display at the shops. I think it would help to teach kids the importance of giving, rather than just receiveing and positive reinforcement.
Billy Joel: Honesty is such a lonely word.
That was an area I could certainly relate to. Some people can be fickle. I've learned that the hard way. But In Anya's defence she was relearning what it is to be human again. It's nice when you can see it from both sides. In real life, that is not always the case.

Date: 2020-09-02 04:58 pm (UTC)Parents do need to be firm with their kids. Young kids don't understand that they can't have everything the want.
Anya found being human so confusing, but she was trying.

Date: 2020-09-03 06:19 am (UTC)I heard certain credit cards can set shop alarms off by mistake. Sometimes they just go off without knowing the possible cause. It's happen to me a few times. I was told that retailers don't have a right to check handbags, unless they have reasonable doubt. Bags bigger than that, most definitely.
Kid's need to understand that money doesn't buy happiness. Sure, toys, games, and treats can be fun for the short term. Overindulgence will not help them in the long run for their emotional maturity.
Anya: For a thousand years I wielded the power of the wish. I brought ruin upon the heads of unfaithful men, I offered destruction and chaos for the pleasure of the lower beings. I was feared and worshiped across the mortal globe and now I'm stuck at Sunnydale High! A mortal! A child! And I'm flunking math.
I'm wasn't good at maths either.*shrugs*

Date: 2020-09-03 09:45 am (UTC)Yeah, but parents are often too willing to give in to avoid tantrums.
Same here. I never got to grips with long division.

Date: 2020-09-03 10:41 am (UTC)That's what I learned in Retail class. I do the same as you. Sometimes retailers are very suspicious, sometimes they will just wave you off. It depends on the value of merchandise.
It must be really hard to deal with. I've seen parents ignore it. The kid is going to tire themselves out eventually. A time out would be difficult to implement during a routine shopping trip and is much better than getting angry or enforcing a punishment.
I know the essential's, that's good enough for me. Thank goodness for calculators as back up.:)

Date: 2020-09-03 07:37 pm (UTC)I was pretty good at basic mental arithmetic when I was younger, but my brain is wearing out so I use my calculator to make sure I get it right.

Date: 2020-09-04 06:54 am (UTC)Phoebe: Well you obviously didn’t see Chucky 3.
Kids are unpredictable.
Buffy:...Well, it doesn't matter anyway. I mean, when in the real world am I ever gonna need chemistry or history or math or the English language?
I wish I had a friend like Willow in high school who would of helped me with my maths.:(

Date: 2020-09-04 09:49 am (UTC)I think we all wish we'd had a friend like Willow. She was awesome!

Date: 2020-09-04 11:25 am (UTC)Okay, I'm scaring myself out of adopting a kid. I was anxious when one of cats went AWOL and my dad went missing. I'm most definitely not doing it on my own.*fearful*
Willow: You want us to breed?
Snyder: I want you to tutor him. Percy is flunking history.
Willow was a true academic.:)

Date: 2020-09-04 11:38 pm (UTC)Yeah. I'm being dramatic. I had to look after an egg for my Exploring Early Childhood class back in high school. It was very boring. Some of my classmates had those digital pets.
"Casting Director, Marcia Shulman, admitted that casting Willow was one of the most difficult things she had to do for this pilot because of the way Willow is written"

Date: 2020-09-05 09:49 am (UTC)They got the casting right for the show.

Date: 2020-09-05 11:16 am (UTC)The closest to being a single mum as I've ever gotten. My school couldn't afford the "RealCare" baby.
The unaired pilot had a different actress playing Willow. She just wasn't suited to the role. It was like Lori Rom (Phoebe) on "Charmed".
no subject
Date: 2020-09-05 07:06 pm (UTC)Yes, I've seen the unaired pilot. I'm sure the actress wad good, just not right for the role.
no subject
Date: 2020-09-06 09:16 am (UTC)Usually it takes an actor to feel comfortable in their role. But the original willow looked more mature. The dynamic would have been different with her in it. Unaired pilots are always odd because many things are changed or altered to make it look better. It's like a tester.
I heard on Castle, Nathan Fillion had to do read throughs with over a hundred women trying out for Kate Beckett. So they could test the chemistry.

Date: 2020-09-06 06:58 pm (UTC)It's to see whether anyone is willing to finance the project.
Lucky Nathan! Bet he enjoyed that =D

Date: 2020-09-07 04:56 am (UTC)You were lucky. I had neighbours with pets. One of them had a dog that was partially blind.
He had to do read throughs with most of the main cast, but I'm sure he didn't mind.:D
The producers said that Nathan was easiest to cast. Stana Katic was apparently "hiding". It makes me wonder who else auditioned for the role of Kate.
no subject
Date: 2020-09-07 09:51 am (UTC)I'll bet!
Nathan is such a great actor. I just wish Firefly had lasted longer but then maybe we wouldn't have had Castle.
It would be interesting to know.

Date: 2020-09-07 10:14 am (UTC)He joked that a majority of shows his been on, get cancelled. Yeah. They might have gone with another guy. But I think things happen for a reason.
The alternative is an actor leaving a successful role prematurely for another show etc. Sometimes ruining the character's story arc. I dislike that.:(
Yeah. Same with Temperance Brennan. They didn't reveal details. Unlike on "Buffy".
Harmony: So, Slayer, at last we meet.
Buffy: We’ve met, Harmony, you halfwit.
I think almost every other female cast member went to audition for Buffy. This Buffy was suppose to be less "superficial" compared to the movie version.
