Title: Disillusioned
Fandom: BtVS
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Xander, Natalie French.
Rating: PG
Written Using: The dw100 prompt Insect.
Setting: Teacher’s Pet.
Summary: Xander thought his luck with the opposite sex was changing for the better. He was wrong; it’s only gotten worse.
Disclaimer: I don’t own BtVS, or the characters. They belong to the amazing Joss Whedon.
A/N: Double drabble and a half, 250 words.
Xander can’t get his head around any of this; Miss French is a gorgeous woman, stunning, sexy, any hormonal teenage boy’s dream come true, or that’s what he’d thought when he’d first met her. Better yet, she’d been interested in him, wanting him to stay behind after school and help her with some project or other, and he’d been more than willing, ready to do anything she asked, but that was then.
Since he woke up in this cage she’s been rapidly losing her appeal.
Sure, this is Sunnydale, built on a Hellmouth, a popular vacation spot for vampires, not to mention all kinds of demons if Giles is to be believed, but giant insects? How come nobody ever bothered to mention those?
Okay, so Buffy tried to warn him, and he refused to listen; who could blame him? He’d thought she was just jealous, but boy was she right! The beautiful Natalie French isn’t a woman at all; she’s an insect in disguise!
Xander’s never been a fan of bugs anyway, they’re horrible, creepy little scuttling things. Usually. This one’s human sized and that just makes it so much worse. Suddenly he wishes he hadn’t paid such close attention in Biology; he knows way too much about the mating habits of the Praying Mantis. He doesn’t want to get his head chewed off! He doesn’t want to be daddy to her offspring either.
He can’t afford to wait for the cavalry; he’d better start working on an escape plan.
The End

Date: 2020-04-16 11:02 am (UTC)Watch out for "Hot" Biology teachers.
There was a similar premise in "Smallville"

Date: 2020-04-16 06:26 pm (UTC)I never had a hot biology teacher, just old battleaxe!
Thank you!

Date: 2020-04-17 01:52 pm (UTC)I never found any of my high school teachers "hot". I thought it was inappropriate. I knew some girls in my grade had crushes on a maths teacher.
no subject
Date: 2020-04-17 05:27 pm (UTC)I had a crush on one of my English teachers, but it was embarrassing when he tripped over my feet in class and he made a joke about me making him fall for me.
no subject
Date: 2020-04-18 12:29 pm (UTC)Crushes are normal. I had a small crush on a guy at school. But it didn't last. Most crushes I had were on TV characters like Paul Gross aka Frasier on "Due South".;)
Your teacher sounds charming and nice. I wish there were more teachers like that.:)
no subject
Date: 2020-04-18 05:26 pm (UTC)I had a lot of crushes on boys at school, but they never noticed me *sigh*
He was sweet. My first crush on a teacher, even if I didn't realise it at the time because I was only 9, was on my junior school teacher Mr Bevan. He was Welsh and lovely, and we remained friends for many years. I haven't seen him for about three years now so I don't know if he's still alive =(

Date: 2020-04-19 08:25 am (UTC)DVD's are more convenient than paid TV. That's for sure.
I also liked one of my brothers friends from afar. I never talked to him. Too shy.
Mr Bevan was Welsh? I can just picture his accent.;)
It's sad when you drift apart from people you care about or vice versa. I hope you find out one way or another what has happened with him. Possibly through friends or family of his?

Date: 2020-04-19 10:01 am (UTC)I had a huge crush on one of my sister's boyfriend's friends, lol! He was nice to me, even though I was a skinny 13 year old.
It was my first introduction to Welsh accents, I've been hooked ever since. Mr Bevan is the one teacher who inspired me the most, both to read and to write. I owe him more than I could ever say. I never knew any of his friends or family. I used to stop by my old school sometimes to visit and I'd see him around town. We always had a chat whenever we met.

Date: 2020-04-19 11:08 am (UTC)Technology has come a long way. I could have done TAFE online, but the point of doing a course was to get out of the house. However, the time duration to complete the course is half what it is online. So it depends on an individuals personal preference.
Sounds like something could have happened between you two.*grins*
I never had a real close connection to a teacher in high school. I had mentors at TAFE and you know what happened with that friend. My brother has always been the constant authority figure in my life.
I hope you get to see Mr Bevan again. I'm glad he gave you some good memories.:)
no subject
Date: 2020-04-20 10:08 am (UTC)Sadly nothing ever did. I have no idea where he is now.
He's the only teacher I was really close to, a very good teacher and a good person. I hope I'll see him again sometime.
no subject
Date: 2020-04-20 11:11 am (UTC)Yeah. I wouldn't have finished the course without a little human interaction from the ideal people. If only I could have used "social distancing" techniques for difficult people. I struggled with implementing personal boundaries. Although some people won't take no for an answer, despite you giving excuses.*sighs*
Oh well, he probably didn't realise what he lost or was too scared. Some things aren't meant to be.
Maybe you could look up Mr Bevan via the school. It could be like that family documentary: Who Do You Think You Are? Except you aren't related. Otherwise, you can leave it up to fate.
no subject
Date: 2020-04-21 10:04 am (UTC)Some people just get right in your space and I hate that. It's rude and makes me uncomfortable. Social distancing might change things, if only for a while.
He was 18 like the rest of the gang, I was just the kid sister of a friend. I didn't date until I was 16.
I might try that once the lockdown is over.

Date: 2020-04-21 10:37 am (UTC)Although the experience is far more enjoyable when your not in a rush too.
It makes me wonder why they lack that self-awareness. The safest option is to avoid. Even with the coronavirus, there are people who will spit on others or joke about having the virus. It's really low.*annoyed*
I've never dated. No guy has ever taken me seriously enough. Well until the matchmaking thing. I don't think he likes me for the right reasons.*shrugs*
I wish you all the best with Mr Bevan.:)

Date: 2020-04-22 09:44 am (UTC)People are stupid and ignorant, and everyone who does such things should be heavily fined and made to stay home with one of those ankle things on so the authorities will know if they leave their house. It's really disgusting that some people are treating this crisis as a joke.
To be honest, you've probably saved yourself a lot of grief. Dating is a minefield, and usually ends with at least one broken heart.
Thanks =)

Date: 2020-04-22 11:05 am (UTC)Some people are clearly disturbed and shouldn't be allowed in public if they are a nuisance to society. I'm talking about those who already have a criminal record. Trying to traumatise people is not funny. Any rational person would know that.
I use to romanticised the notion of being in a relationship, not anymore. It's only worth it under the right circumstances.
BTW: I like your userpic.:)
no subject
Date: 2020-04-23 09:57 am (UTC)I agree, anyone treating the situation as a joke and trying to traumatise others is clearly wrong in the head.
It's not all hearts and flowers like in the movies, that's for sure.
Thanks! It's a very old one by silversolitaire. She made several versions, I have a still one on my dreamwidth. Very talented person. Not sure if her account is still active though.
no subject
Date: 2020-04-23 11:20 am (UTC)Otherwise you never become a better version of yourself.
Unlike those who put down others to make themselves feel superior.
I use to like "Rom-Com's". I was living in dream world.*sighs*
Okay. I made a dreamwidth account when I didn't have access to LJ a while back. Technical difficulties.
no subject
Date: 2020-04-24 10:03 am (UTC)I watch an occasional RomCom, nothing wring with enjoying them, ut I've always preferred SciFi.
I got on the dreamwidth bandwagon fairly early, there are lots of great challenge communities there, it's a great place for me to be.
no subject
Date: 2020-04-24 11:07 am (UTC)Hence why some relationships are toxic and the only way to avoid them is to truly know yourself first.
Yeah. I sound a tad cynical. There was even a RomCom that made fun of the concept of a RomCom, aka "Isn't It Romantic".
Some RomComs end with them not ending up together. So I don't know why it's still classified as one. To add a twist perhaps?
I don't mind sci-fi or spy movies. It depends on the script.
no subject
Date: 2020-04-25 10:45 am (UTC)I'm not much interested in romance as the main plot, I prefer action and excitement. One of my favourite movies is Pitch Black which doesn't really have any romance, but has strong female characters and a lot of excitement.
no subject
Date: 2020-04-25 11:46 am (UTC)That usually means it's one sided, the person matures or one of them dies. Although that could be seen as much more as realistic. A prequel to a love story or a persons journey in life.
Yeah. Who needs romance taking up all the screen time of an action film.
I was glad it only took three seasons for Chuck and Sarah to get it together on "Chuck". When they put other people in the way, it made them look fickle. Then once they were married, the plot was less about them pining for each other. Acting like a team of equals and getting on with it.
no subject
Date: 2020-04-26 10:09 am (UTC)I'm just not all that keen on romance anyway. As part of a story, sure, but not as the main focus.
One day I'll get around to watching the rest of Chuck.
no subject
Date: 2020-04-26 12:13 pm (UTC)Yes. A temporary escapism that hopefully has a positive message behind it.
War Doctor: Is there a lot of this in the future?
Eleventh Doctor: It does start to happen, yeah.
Romance is ho-hum to a certain degree. It means nothing without chemistry and trust. I remember that the Doctor was referred to as asexual but got sexualised because hey, that's got to look good in the trailer.*shrugs*
Oh no! Spoilers. I forgot. Sorry.:(
no subject
Date: 2020-04-26 09:46 pm (UTC)I'll have forgotten by the time I watch it anyway.
no subject
Date: 2020-04-27 09:16 am (UTC)Amy Pond:...And I'm his mother in law.
It was a case of "The Doctor Needs A Wife" rather than wants one. For plot purposes. The concept of someone from the Doctor's future was interesting but being his wife was not.*frowns*
Okay.*sighs in relief*

Date: 2020-04-28 09:17 am (UTC)Moffat said that Ten was the "Charmer", while Eleven was "Awkward". Twelve didn't want any of that "romance" stuff. Even if he got a tad jealous when River ignored him for another guy.
Donna had the right perspective and gave Ten what he needed and vice versa. I don't think Martha would have put up with Ten if she hadn't been infatuated with him. Luckily she was able to leave on her own terms.
Twelve and Bill was the closest to how it was in Old Who. She wasn't originally written as gay but Moffat changed it at the last moment.
no subject
Date: 2020-04-28 09:54 am (UTC)I loved Eleven for being awkward and gangly, Twelve for being uninterested, I got tired of Ten's 'charm. I loved the Twelve/Bill dynamic, he was like her mentor, he took her on to teach her. I also loved that she was gay.
no subject
Date: 2020-04-28 12:28 pm (UTC)It didn't stop the objectification of Leela though. At least she was tough.
Bill was refreshing after all the issues with Clara. I wish she could have travelled with Ten or Eleven too.
no subject
Date: 2020-04-29 09:46 am (UTC)But if Bill had travelled with earlier Doctors he relationship with Twelve wouldn't have been the same.
no subject
Date: 2020-04-29 10:29 am (UTC)Amy's reaction to seeing Leela's "leather bikini" type outfit in a deleted scene is priceless.:D
I suppose. Pearl Mackie said if she had a choice to travel with another Doctor, it would have been Eleven. Clara was fortunate enough to interact with Ten, Eleven, Twelve and the War Doctor. Although within a limited timeframe.
no subject
Date: 2020-04-29 06:07 pm (UTC)I haven't seen that! I can imagine though...
Good choice, I'd go with Eleven if I had a choice. Clara got lucky.

Date: 2020-04-30 11:39 am (UTC)[Twice Upon A Time]
Ist Doctor: If I hear any more language like that from you, young lady, you're in for a jolly good smacked bottom.
Twelfth Doctor: Can we just pretend that that never happened?
Bill: I'm a broad-minded girl. I mean, I know we have this whole professor - student thing going on.
Twelfth Doctor: Can we just never, ever talk about this again?
Bill: I hope we talk about it loads!
[Then there was the minisode where the TARDIS kept hiding Clara's bedroom]
Clara: Dear God, that woman is made of legs. That's the most legs of any living human.*TARDIS shows Clara a picture of Amy*
Pearl Mackie said this at a panel show. Eleven and Bill just bouncing about in a platonic way.
I'm just thankful that it was only a hand kiss between Ten and Clara.
no subject
Date: 2020-04-30 05:46 pm (UTC)So am I, I don't see why there needs to be kissing in everything. It's primarily a kids' show. Kids are growing up too fast as it is.
no subject
Date: 2020-05-01 10:07 am (UTC)Originally a kids show to learn about science and history. Now it's deemed a family show with innuendos and paradoxes I cannot comprehend. I watched it for the other err...stuff.
Eleventh Doctor:...And what sort of job's a kissogram?
Amy: I go to parties and I kiss people. With outfits. It's a laugh.
*crickets chirps*
Why on why couldn't Amy have been a singing telegram instead?*shakes head*
Oh well, at least she branched out onto other jobs. Modelling, then journalist, then author. I think that's the order it went.
no subject
Date: 2020-05-01 10:12 am (UTC)I suppose at least she wasn't a stripogram...
Amy grew up over time and found herself.
no subject
Date: 2020-05-01 10:26 am (UTC)It's either that or a character is deemed unattractive.*annoyed*
If it had been Torchwood, she would have. I know Karen Gillian has a decent singing voice so it would have been plausible to be a singing telegram.
*takes deep breath*
I will let this go.
It was over a span of ten years, on and off that she travelled with the Doctor. So it's normal for her to change career/jobs.
no subject
Date: 2020-05-02 06:09 pm (UTC)She finally found the career she wanted. Sometimes it takes a while.
no subject
Date: 2020-05-03 12:26 pm (UTC)Yeah. Tackling serious issues in society is fine. But it doesn't have to be so full on. We get it RTD. This show isn't meant for the little kiddies. Sheesh! I had no interest in Gwen's shenanigans.*frowns*
Owen: What?
Diane: I'm waiting for you to pull out my chair.
Owen: Let me get this straight. You expect equality and chivalry?
Diane: I don't see why they should be mutually exclusive.
I didn't mind the Owen/Diane pairing. Specifically the emotional part of the "relationship". Too bad it was short lived. Diane seemed to be a woman ahead of her time. Even though she decided to go back to her own era, not knowing for sure if it would work out.
Yep it does. I found Amy's choice of career changes more plausible than Clara becoming a teacher all of a sudden.*shrugs*
no subject
Date: 2020-05-03 09:05 pm (UTC)Diane just wanted to fly. There were too many restrictions in our time for her, too many hoops shed have to jump through before she'd be allowed to take to the air again.
no subject
Date: 2020-05-04 09:47 am (UTC)I don't know much about Aviation. I've been in a cockpit once. This was years ago before security was heighten . Does that count?*kidding*
Diane just disappeared like Amelia Earhart. I'd like to think that she met the Doctor and he took her back home.
no subject
Date: 2020-05-04 06:50 pm (UTC)no subject
Date: 2020-05-05 10:23 am (UTC)You could say that her story was "left up in the air".*bad pun*
no subject
Date: 2020-05-05 06:30 pm (UTC)It would have been nice to see where she ended up. The Doctor could have run into her.
no subject
Date: 2020-05-06 09:22 am (UTC)That was too easy.:D
Coincidently, the episodes "Out Of Time" and "The Idiot's Lantern were both set in "1953".
*pause*
Ooh. I smell a fanfic idea.*brain going into story mode*
