Fic Of The Week - Week Seventy Seven

As I'm having a rough time at the moment, it's another short fic this week.

Fight Fire With Fire is a 6 chapter fic from February 2008, by stopwatch_plz .
According to the author, this is a Fic With A Plot. And no pr0n. But there will be some Janto moments.

Summary: OK, I have to admit, this is very much a self-interest fic *grin* I’ve
had an interest in Spontaneous Human Combustion since I was a kid (don’t ask – I had an odd childhood *lol*) and something I was reading made me think about it and how cool it would be to include in a fic, but with a twist.

It's this government thing about changing benefits and getting the long-term sick and disabled people back into work. There's a reason I don't work - actually a handful of reasons - but I've got to fill in a questionaire (which I haven't got yet), then I'll probably be expected to attend an assessment meeting. I don't go out much, I never travel far and I only go to familiar places that I can get too easily, so I have no idea how I'll be able to make an appointment and actually get to wherever the assessment is supposed to take place, and because my health problems are all internal and/or mental rather than visible I know they'll probably say I'm fit for work and they'll start trying to send me for interviews and if I don't do it I'll lose my benefit money. I'm a nervous wreck, so stressed now I can barely eat or sleep. Stress makes all my problems worse. I feel like I'm being punished.

And on top of that, my aunt died this morning - that's the fifth or sixth death of family or friends in the last couple of months.

I don't know what I'm going to do.

As for the change in benefits - all I can suggest is try not to worry too much until you know all the details. Wait until you get the questionnaire - it might not be as bad as you think.

One of my friends who has MS has been through it and it was a nightmare. She can hardly do anything for herself and is in a wheelchair but they wanted her to get a job. What chance do I have?

I can't NOT worry, I can't think about anything else. Sorry to be a pit of gloom, but I don't handle stress well and all I can do is sit and wait. It's like being trapped in a nightmare.

Oh my dear so sorry to know about your aunt ...
As regards the other problema, let's hope it is not as bad as you are thinking, you don't have to answer this but can't a doctor write a report about your condition?, I'm sure that you had had tons of tests to get a diagnosis, they must be useful.

Doctors aren't terribly helpful over here. I had a lot of tests originally, but I was told my stomach problems were all in my head and they got me addicted to tranquilizers. Twice. I still have the stomach problems, but now I have agoraphobia, panic attacks and I sleep badly as well, all because of the tranquilizers. I stopped taking them years ago, but the after-effects continue. Right now I'm just waiting for the questionaire I have to fill in to arrive, and for a phone call I should get at some point in the next two weeks. The waiting is the worst part, not knowing what's going to happen, just sitting around worrying and getting more stressed, which makes everything worse. Had a headache for 4 days now and I'm sleeping even worse than usual. Pretty sure I've lost weight again as well. I'm underweight at the best of times, I can't afford to lose weight. I don't handle stress well.

That's good to hear! You've had a rough time so I'm glad things are better for you!

Thank you. I think I'm pausing between rants to see what happens next. Hopefully this headache will go soon, it's not helping.

So I've been catching up on fic of the week - working backwards in time. Have I told you lately how much I enjoy fic of the week???

I have also been oddly interested in SHC! I remember having this book of odd happenings - people who died visiting loved ones and the like. One story was about SHC. I was fascinated, and skeptical. Such an odd and scary thing...

It's a weird subject, but these things that have never been fully explained have always fascinated me. I have loads of books on unexplained phenomena. I kind of like that there are still a lot of things science hasn't managed to explain yet. it means there is still mystery in the world and we don't know everything.

It is. There should always be mysteries and things to learn. If humanity ran out of things to learn, what would be the point of living?
