Summary: Jack is blue. Owen is amused

Saving Cardiff from rampaging aliens wasn’t unusual for Torchwood, the Rift saw to that.

It wasn’t even that unusual for aliens to explode unexpectedly – earth conditions were hazardous to the health of many non-terrestrial species, so Torchwood had become adept at getting various kinds of alien gloop off clothing, pavements and people. Sometimes the gloop stained, but Ianto was amazingly good at stain removal. Usually.

Not this time though. Jack was bright blue and apparently there was nothing that could be done.

Owen, of course, found it hilarious.

“Guess you really are a true blue hero,” he sniggered.

“Bite me!”

It's just a saying, I think True blue refers to racial purity or something like that, never been sure, so possibly a pure and perfect hero or something like that. We have a lot of sayings whose true meanings have been lost in the past.

Yeah, poor Ianto, he really wants to get the stain out, he hates failing at any part of his job, but it's Jack who's turned blue which creates even more problems. He doesn't really want to harm Jack, but he doesn't want Jack permanently blue either, so Ianto may be starting to lose his mind a little. I'm sure he'll feel better after a cup of coffee and a rest, and the impulse to scrub Jack with bleach will pass. He's just not thinking very clearly right now, lol!

... 'racial purity' really is not a good connotation for a saying like that to have, imho ^_^" I was a bit disturbed by that, so I looked it up and my dictionary says it is just 'a true/real hero' *puha*

Yeah, these days it seems to stand for the real thing, the genuine article, but I believe it was originally a racial purity thing. In the old days (before my time even), the upper crust of society were referred to as blue bloods and I think it might have had something to do with that. (And yes, I'm not surprised you found the racial purity connotation disturbing, it IS disturbing, sorry about that, but that's what I got when I tried looking it up).

LOL Are you sure you don't make yourself out to be older than you are? You sound as if you're Methuselah ^.^" And yes, I know. Nobles were called blue bloods because they kept out of the sun, had thus white skin and the veins shone through blue - I only need to look down at my own wrist to see why they thought that :)

Guess that makes me a blue blood too! I have pale skin and stay out of the sun because I burn very quickly and easily. Also very veiny, hmmmm...

I reached the half century mark early last year, so yes, I'm ancient, lol! I feel as old as Methuselah at the moment. I have a bad headache and the weather's hot and humid so I have no energy. I'm going to sit here and vegetate for the rest of the day.

My mother always joked about me having 'upper class paleness' ^.^ But the downside is that I burn very fast and then look like a cooked lobster :(

I will start the third decade of my life this year, but so far I still feel like a crazy teenage fangirl ^.^

There's a teenage fangirl still lurking inside me - you never get too old for that! I'm just a lot slower on the outside now, lol!

Cooked lobster isn't a flattering colour for anyone - not even for a lobster! Sunscreen is a necessity - when we actually GET sunshine.
