Summary: The Doctor doesn’t approve of UNIT’s methods.

There were times the Doctor despaired. Humanity had potential, but they were so scared of everything, including each other, that they armed themselves to the teeth and did battle with anyone they didn’t understand. If they couldn’t even get along with their own species, what chance did people from other worlds have?


Admittedly, many of the otherworldly visitors who came to earth did so to destroy, invade, or enslave the planet, but did that give UNIT the right to greet every alien species with an array of military ordnance and a show of deadly force?


The Doctor didn’t think so.

I agree with the doctor, we need to learn to get along with each other before we can get along with peoples from other planets

Excellent, thanks for writing this. Does it help you feel purged of any of the current nastiness?

Also, your point in the first paragraph is why in real life I hope we never leave our solar system.

Ironically, I wrote this a couple of months ago, before the current nastiness. I've been working my way through the dw100 prompts in order, writing a bunch at a time, then writing more when I start running low. This one ended up being a bit prophetic, as it turns out *sigh* It is quite cathartic though.

Unless we turn ourselves around and stop turning to violence as a first response instead of a last resort, we're better staying on our own planet and not inflicting ourselves on the wider universe. One day, I hope we'll learn that peace and love are the way to go.
