Fic Of The Week - Week Sixty Three

Okay, so this isn't the fic I was going to rec this week, but circumstances have changed. christine_twfan 's journal was there just over a week ago, but has now apparently been deleted, though not purged. Don't know if it will get reinstated or not but just in case it doesn't, I'm reccing Unfixed Wishes now as it is still available on Teaspoon, but who knows how long for? If you haven't read it, get over there and either read or download it before it gets taken away as well, lol!

It's from July 2008 and is 8 chapters with an epilogue. Spoilers for Exit Wounds.

Summary: Ianto discovers an alien artifact in the archives, which sets him on an unexpected path.

I had this fic planned for the week after next, but as long as everyone who wants to read it gets a chance to, that's all that matters. I've heard a lot of people praising this one, though it's made at least one person cry so I don't know whether it's a very sad one or not. Nonetheless, as a precaution, I've downloaded it - just to be safe. I really hate it when good writers take their fic away from us! =(

I saw the discussion about this fic in the storyfinders comm and now I see what all the fuss was about. Wow! That was a very powerful read. I cried too, starting bout half-way through, and I'm not usually one for such things! I didn't find it sad, exactly, but both the conceit and the execution are just so bittersweet I got a little overwhelmed. I'm still reeling.

Great rec! I'm sorry the author saw fit to delete her journal. That's never good. :(

Haven't read it yet myself - it's my evening treat - but when I saw that on storyfinders I was stunned! I'j just been on her journal a week ago, getting the links so I could rec it in s couple of weeks, couldn't believe it had gone! Thankfully, I think I'd downloaded most of her fics already, I'm just disappointed that I can't rec any more of them as I've loved what I've read. (And yes, I do have the companion piece Secret Admirer too - just in case anyone should want it...)

Thank you so much! I wasn't kidding when I said I was kicking myself for not having saved it. I got the email with the first five parts, but not the second email with the rest of the parts.

That's so weird! I hope she's all right. I suppose there are many reasons one might delete one's own journal, but when someone I know in RL life did it, she was suffering from major depression and in a really bad headspace. I hope sincerely hope that's not the case here!

I'd love to read the companion piece when you have a chance to send it. Do you still have my addy?

Yep, still got it for the fic rec mailing list (the next edition of which should hopefully get sent out around April time, I think).

I'll see if I can send it now - 2 emails as there are 9 parts and my email is notoriously iffy if I attach too many docs!

That's good! The other person I sent them to only got the first half.... Had to re-send the second half. My email is oddly unreliable at times.

I've just this moment read it, and it made me smile and cry. It's not sad - but it might make you cry, too. It's bittersweet.

You're welcome, it's one I'd been planning to rec for yonks, but everything has to take its turn and I thought her fics at least were safe since I'd already recced several... Just goes to show, you never know! I've saved a copy and I've got the companion piece too, thankfully. I keep hoping maybe she's just moving to another site like AO3, but if she is she's using a different name.

I was sorry to see that she deleted her journal, as I'd friended her so I could catch up with her fic. I love her writing, and I hope she might have gone to AO3.
