Drabble: Bittersweet Find

Summary: It’s surprising the memories that ordinary things can evoke.

Ianto finds it as he’s packing to move into his and Jack’s new flat, sorting out what to keep and what to throw away.


At the back of his nightstand drawer is a key with a silly troll keyring, and for a moment the sight of it takes his breath away. It’s the key to Lisa’s flat in London, the one she gave him less than a month before Canary Wharf, her way of asking him to move in. It’s a bittersweet find, useless now but heavy with memories. Smiling, he drops it in the box of things to keep.

Yeah, she must have been really special. I posted one with flashbacks recently, Memories of Lisa, but of course it's only speculation based on a few lines from the show.

We only got to see Ianto angst over her.*pets Ianto*

Owen only had a brief flashback to his fiancée. Katie, I think her name was.

We saw how he did fall for Diane even if it was suppose to be a fling.

Never did that with Gwen*back to being bitchy*

We saw everything with Gwen even though we didn't want to, because she was, in RTD's eyes, the main character. All the others were treated s background characters and we only got to know them most of the time when they were about to die, so that their deaths would seem more poignant and sad. That's a really cheap way of manipulating an emotional response from viewers. =[

It was called Torchwood. Not the Gwen Cooper show.

If the rule was that everyone dies on the show, than Gwen should have too.

Jack died over and over.

Oh, but RTD PROMISED us that nothing bad would EVER happen to Gwen! *rolls eyes* He seriously expected us to adore the whiny, egotistical, self-righteous little hypocrite.

I couldn't relate to her.

I didn't like her.

I wouldn't have cared if her life was in the balance.

There has to be suspence somewhere.

In Bones I cared that Brennan was buried underground even though she would be found!

Because RTD can't create a female character who real women can relate to. All he did was collect a bunch of the worst human characteristics,. lump them together, and call them Gwen. Then he denied her any kind of character development. If I'd ever thought she was in genuine danger of being killed, would have cheered.

Suzie may have been crazy but at least you understood her. Wierd as that sounds.:D

She made an odd sort of sense, even though what she was doing was terrible she thought the ends justified the means. If she could just control the glove then people wouldn't have to die.

(Of course, that would lead to even worse overpopulation, so I don't think people never dying would be a good thing.)

She did kind of lost the plot trying to do something she thought was the right thing.

Knowing too much comes at a cost?

I think theres a reason I don't know the answer to that question besides not being highly intelligent.

Suzie was smart, but the glove had its own agenda and twisted her into a tool it could use. Gwen had no such excuse for her repeated stupidity.

Yes, I think now his relationship with Jack is more secure, he can look back on what he had with Lisa and smile.
