Nature is Weird!

OMG, just found this amazing video of salmon crossing a slightly flooded road and dodging traffic. How weird is that? Not something drivers usually have to watch out for, but it's oddly mesmerising, not to mention edge-of-seat stuff when they go scurrying in front of a car!

That's about eight hours away from where I grew up. :-) I've never seen salmon do their run across the street though. I've seen them go up ladders in dams, but never across the street. That's pretty awesome.

I love the way they move! Can salmon be cute, because I think those are, lol!

Drivers don't usually have to watch out for fish...

I just found the whole thing fascinating, I don't know how many times I watched it yesterday!

I think they can be cute. :) I'll have to see if I can find video of the salmon going up the ladders. There's a number of dams on the Colombia River that have the ladders. It's really fun to watch them from the observation rooms in the dams.

Salmon are clever fish, no matter the obstacle they find a way to conquer it (sometimes with a little help from humans).

This is a dam/ladder in California. I wasn't able to find a good one on the Colombia River in Washington/Oregon.

Boy, Salmon have a tough life! Even getting up those ladders is hard because the water flow is against them, but they're well designed so the fish don't keep getting washed back down.

The saying should be changed from Brave as a lion to Brave as a Salmon, because what does a lion have to fear? salmon are in danger from everything and yet they keep going anyway.

they really do, even when the rivers aren't dammed up because bears will stand in the areas where the salmon have to jump to get up the small waterfalls and can catch the salmon as they jump.

Not a problem. I wish I could have found one from inside the dam so you could see what it looks like under the water. That's what I remember the most from stopping at the dams on road trips.

I love that some places have put in observation points so that people can go and watch these amazing fish on their incredible journey =)

The dams I was lucky enough to get to see were also teaching areas, which is why they have the windows there. Also really interesting information on how the dams generate energy, too.

They're so driven when they're heading back upstream to spawn. Nothing stops them. Drivers must be a bit bemused, with fish crossing!
