CoE Fix-It Recs for LadyxPhantomhive

As promised for my friend LadyxPhantomhive over on ff.net, here are some recs for CoE Fix-Its. If anyone else has any suggestions of fics I should add to this list, feel free to let me know - more fix-its are always welcome and you might know some I haven't read yet!

I've embedded the links in the story titles or in the part number, so just click on those and you should go straight to the fic.

First up have to be my favourites from

I've updated the list - quite a few have been added, all of which I need to read too, lol! Some of them my friend won't be able to read yet as she's a young teen, but she can save them for later.

I must just vent though - I LOATHE the new update page, had to wrestle with it, then ended with the updates in such tiny writing I could barely read it. Finally managed to enlarge the text, but you don't get much choice considering the tiny writing was what the update page apparently calls 'normal' *Pokes LJ with sharp, pointy sticks*

Ugh, why did they pick today to take the update page off beta??? I had a horrible time making the font pink in my latest entry. The color feature wouldn't work in Rich Text, and I had to find the color code page and copy and paste the color code I wanted in the box! What the hell, do I now have to do this every frickin' time I want to change the color of my font??? *growls* I left a comment to complain about it on the new release post, but I doubt they'll do anything about it. They haven't listened to everybody's complaints so far... *sigh*

I didn't ask for specific ratings, so don't worry about it - I wanted recs for myself as much as for my friend, there are an awful lot of fix-its I haven't read, there were just so many stories being written in the aftermath of CoE I couldn't keep up. I'm very grateful for the recs, but now I need a few extra hours in the day to read some of them, lol!

LJ doesn't listen to complaints, I guess we should be used to that by now. I haven't tried the font colour change thing yet, but it it's as bad as the text size thing (which is misleadingly labelled 'change font' - which it doesn't do, it just changes size with only 5 options, three of which are too small and the other two too big), then I can imagine the headaches it's causing. I want the old version back, I don't see why they had to change it, they've just made it harder to use and messy.

Someone on my flist has started cross-posting from DW, so perhaps you might want to try that. Much as I hate the new update page at the moment, I'm going to see if I can live with it before I give that a try.

I've never got the hang of new-fangled things like cross-posting, lol! I'm terrible at computer stuff. I plan on trying to live with the new update page too, at least for now. I just don't get why it had to change when it worked perfectly well before and now it doesn't. It's not about not liking change - there have been innovations and changes to other sites that have been a blessing - it just seems that LJ is determined to change things with no reason as if they want to make life more difficult for their users. Complaining is just a waste of effort.

It seems to me that they're trying to be more like Tumblr, but why try to be like other sites? We like LJ because it offers (or used to offer) things that other sites didn't. I would think they would try to hold on to their own uniqueness. *scratches head*

I know, it doesn't make sense. I got an LJ account because it offered what I wanted and it meant I got access to all the fanfic over here. I've never joined Facebook or Tumblr or anything like that because they don't appeal to me, I like (or at least I did) the set-up here, the journal aspect, but now there are stupid things like the collapsing and expanding cuts - no help at all when you want to add an entry to your master list or rec it to someone else. Clicking at the top of a post only works if the entry has a heading.

Add to that, LJ is crawling at the speed of an arthritic snail at the moment, I'm not at all sure I'll be having a paid account when my subscription runs out. I don't know that it's worth paying for something that doesn't work half the time.

I've been mourning losing my paid account, mainly because of less icons and having to deal with the ads. I see where you're coming from though, why pay for something that barely works half the time and gives you features you don't want?

I haven't decided yet what I'm going to do. With the extra paid time we've been given, I'm okay until sometime in April so I can think it over. i'm still in two minds - don't really want to lose the extra icons or be hampered by adds, but is it worth the cost? I stopped my automatic payments - partly because my bank got taken over and all the credit card numbers changed completely, so I would have had to change all the details and it was hassle at the time, cancelling then starting over seemed like a better idea. I just haven't decided yet whether I'm going back to automatic payments... Still thinking, lol!

I read a really good one a long time ago, before I joined LJ and was just lurking in the shadows reading. As soon as I remember what it was called and who it was by I'll let you know!

They're a mixed bag, each one very different which just goes to show what a wide variety of ways there are to fix CoE.

teachwriteslash is always brilliant, they're my absolute favourites I think. I've been working on master lists of her fic on dreamwidth because her LJ is friends-locked, but the links at the end of chapters on dreamwidth are still to the LJ posts. I figured master lists would be useful whenever I come across anyone wanting to read her fics, her dreamwidth isn't the easiest place to navigate.

Chosen makes my spine tingle and my skin shiver, and Rose of Jericho makes me cry until at the end I'm both crying and smiling. I think R of J may be my very favorite, although I may need to read Forever for You again. Just to be sure...

As complete rewrites of CoE go, I don't think Forever For You can be beaten, it makes the Torchwood Team look like the well-organised professionals that they are instead of a bunch of idiots with no back up plans.
