“Can we go Trick or Treating for Halloween?” Bikky asked hopefully.
Ryo smiled at his foster son; Bikky been living with him for almost six months and had settled in well. “I don’t see why not. Any idea what kind of costume you want to wear?”
“A superhero!” Bikky whooped.
“Which one?” Ryo asked, amused. He should’ve guessed; Bikky had been playing Superheroes ever since they’d seen the Avengers movie.
“Thor, because he has blond hair too, and he’s really powerful.”
“Good choice, we’ll see about getting you a costume tomorrow.”
“What about you? Aren’t you going to dress up too?”
“I hadn’t thought about it.”
“Hadn’t thought about what?” Dee asked, leaning in the doorway.
“Wearing a costume for Halloween. I’m taking Bikky Trick or Treating.”
“Oooh, free candy, can I come too?”
And that’s how Thor and Catwoman came to be escorted by a samurai and a demon…
The End

She lightened up a bit the year before her stroke and let me have some fun, and after her stroke she seemed to forget that she didn't like Halloween and was more enthusiastic. Now I can just enjoy myself with it, even though I still miss her. It's weird.
At least Dee, Ryo and Co. will have a great time!
Thank you!

Date: 2016-10-30 09:19 pm (UTC)After I outgrew trick-or-treating, it was my job to hand out candy. This one year, a friend and I rigged a paper spider to drop on people coming up to the door. The first guy screamed like a little girl, fled out the gate, and yammered frantically in Spanish all the way out. Mom and I were, like, "What'd he say? What'd he say?!" My friend translated, that he was saying he'd never come back to our house again. Poor guy! Another year, I got all dressed up to look like a scarecrow, sprawled in one of our lawn chairs in the front yard, and jumped at the kids as they came up (not the really young ones, though). I wound up scaring the town tough-guy-gangsta boys so bad that one of 'em jumped about three feet in the air. We don't hand out candy anymore, though; we can't afford the candy.

I also have Halloween charms, bouncy spiders, and little knitted mice I've made to hand out as costume prizes, and everyone gets balloons because they make great decorations and by giving them away I don't have to deal with them afterwards =)
The spiders and mice I made years ago for a craft fair. Some sold, but I still have tons so I thought they'd make good prizes. I love how delighted the kids are even with little things.
I made the bag and phone charms last year - check out this post: http://badly-knitted.livejournal.com/473061.html
It contains links to the two other posts with the charms in them. I gave some away last year to some of my online friends, but you missed out I think because we hadn't met yet, so if you and your mum would like one or two each, let me know which ones, I still have lots left.

Date: 2016-10-30 10:57 pm (UTC)I'm not a kiddie person, never wanted children and only babysat twice for older kids, but on Halloween I make an exception, just because it's so much fun. I'm lucky I could get candy at a good price, but I spent more than I probably should have on it. It's only once a year though, and I've economised elsewhere
