Summary: Jack’s in a nostalgic mood.

Jack looked at the big plastic container and sighed. Picking it up, he poured milk over his cereal, screwed the cap back on, and replaced the container in the fridge.

“What’s with all the sighing?” Ianto asked, plucking toast from the toaster.

“I miss milk bottles,” Jack replied. “I remember when they first started being used. I got accustomed to putting out empties and finding a pint of fresh milk on the doorstep in the morning. The plastic things that’re used now just aren’t the same, I can’t pour the cream off the top over my cereal anymore. Progress sucks.”

Poor Jack. There are times when I wish I could go back to when Mom was a child, and experience little things like that.

Funny coincidence: When we were in Kmart two days ago, Mom and I were actually talking about how much it sucks that sodas come in plastic bottles now. It's much more practical, but I remember getting a Sprite at the Mexican bakery a few doors down from the dentist's office where Mom was working, and it was always in a glass bottle. You have to hunt a long time before finding them now; it seems like only Crush and some root beers are easy to find that way. Sometimes--very rarely--I can find Pepsis in glass bottles, but it'll be the regular caffeinated; I tend only to drink diet decaf. And then seeing condiment bottles like that in restaurants; I haven't seen such things in ages.

I miss glass bottles. Geez, I never thought I'd be old enough to wax nostalgic, but here I am, doing exactly that!

Yeah, Jack has seen a lot and he knows that new doesn't necessarily mean better.

I know! About the only drinks that always come in glass bottles these days are the various alcoholic beverages. It's just not the same.

I wax nostalgic all the time, but at my age I guess that's to be expected.

Good point; when we used to go to the recycling center, if someone was unloading glass, odds were pretty good that it was beer.

It's so weird; it kinda freaks me out if I see something from the Eighties in an antique store. I feel like that stuff shouldn't be "old" yet. And they play shows I used to watch on classic TV stations, and the music I grew up on is "oldies"...it's pretty scary! Plus, some of the kids I went to school with are possibly grandparents by now, those who had kids when we were still teens. Ugh, sometimes I hate Time.

Time goes too fast! I'm watching a lot of shows I used to love -and still do. Mostly original Star Trek at the moment, but I've watched M*A*S*H several times, and High Chaparral, and MacGyver, some episodes of JAG, Alias Smith and Jones...

Dairies that deliver are few these days though, and it's more expensive. Maybe Ianto will surprise him by finding one and arranging for their milk to be delivered.

AWW bless.I remember at school the little glass bottles of milk we were given. Lemonade and soft drinks came in glass bottles. Children used to gather them up from the beach, take them to the shop and were given a penny each for them. Now THAT was recycling before it was fashionable.

LOL Jack... perhaps Ianto could arrange something, even if he's too young to remember (I don't remember milk bottles made of glass, only soda bottles - which still exists where I live, but are becoming increasingly difficult to find)

The old woman in my heart is currently bemoaning this generation that will never understand "the penny drops"

I remember milk bottles, and there are still a few dairies that do deliveries though milk is more expensive from them because of their overheads.

I bemoan a lot of things as I grow older, lol!

Oh! you made me remember about my summers living on an island, it was so far away from everywhere, that a smal grocer's boat came to our dock every morning selling the essential things for the day ....
I'm sure Ianto will do something about it!
