Title: Resuming Normality - Sequel to ‘Time To Go’
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Jack, Tosh, Ianto.
Rating: PG
Written For: Challenge 391: Mirror at
tw100
Spoilers: Nada
Summary: To Jack’s disappointment, everything is back to normal.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.
“Are we sure he went back where he belongs and didn’t just get evaporated?” Jack asked, looking concerned.
“Quite sure,” Tosh replied. “I’m registering a negative Rift spike exactly mirroring the one that brought him here.”
“Good to know, but I think I’ll miss him. Having two Iantos could’ve been fun.”
Ianto groaned. “Why am I not surprised? I’ll admit it was an interesting experience, but I’m glad it’s over. If I have to look at myself, I’d prefer to do so in a mirror; having a double would soon get far too confusing. I don’t know how twins manage!”

Date: 2016-04-18 10:21 am (UTC)I have to say, I've been a bit disappointed to find some that have been good enough to have me wanting more, but incomplete and abandoned for long enough that you know they won't be finished.
Conversely (and sorry if this makes me sound like a bitch), some are just so poorly written. It's a bit unsettling to see Ianto, Jack, and especially Owen being written with the personalities of teenage girls. *shrugs* Maybe the people writing them are just very young. Again, I realize this sounds bitchy, which isn't my intent. It's just weird to see our boys written like that.

Date: 2016-04-18 11:09 am (UTC)If you want something to read, check out the fic of the week tag on my journal - up until mum's passing, I was reccing a fic to read each week, mostly short series, and some of them were very good indeed (any that have since been deleted, I have copies downloaded). I also have some rec lists for one-shots that I really enjoyed. One of these days I'll have to compile them into rec posts on my journal.

Date: 2016-04-18 11:57 am (UTC)For me, I fully embrace AU with Torchwood, more than I have with any other series. I just refuse to accept the shit fates RTD gave our beloved characters. And the one character that deserved to die lived?! No...
Thank you. I will check those out. It's always fun to discover new fics, and I trust your taste. ;)

Date: 2016-04-18 12:47 pm (UTC)There are also some CoE fixits under a separate tag, some of the best I've read or that others have recced. I do love a good fixit =)

Date: 2016-04-18 12:54 pm (UTC)When you get a chance, I hope you'll read the TW/NCIS crossover I'm writing with nightchild78. It's a CoE fix it. Of course, it helps to have a familiarity with both shows. Do you watch NCIS?

Date: 2016-04-18 07:49 pm (UTC)Tony is my Ianto on NCIS. I have an equal amount of affection for both of them! In fact, I don't plan on watching after this season, since Michael Weatherly is leaving. The show won't be the same without him.
I also have an LJ community dedicated to Tony, in case you're interested.

Also, I'm toying with the idea of starting a Ianto-centric community. I'm sure it wouldn't be too active, since the show hasn't been on in awhile. But even a bit of fun, discussion and fan fics is fine with me! :)

Date: 2016-04-18 10:26 pm (UTC)The show won't be the same! Although, if Abby and Ducky are still there I'll keep watching, I've been a David McCallum fan since Man From U*N*C*L*E* and his other TV shows and movies from when I was young. I always watched anything he was in.
Maybe I'll find time to start reading after my hospital appointment next week =)
There are several Ianto communities around, mostly for fic posting -

Date: 2016-04-18 10:38 pm (UTC)My mom told me that my aunt used to have a big crush and David McCallum, and had his posters all over her room. :)
I'm looking forward to knowing what you think of the story. :)
Oh, well I hope I can offer something fresh. Yes, I was thinking it could be a place for fic posting, but also random thoughts, observations and insights on the character, much like in my Tony community. (Probably a fair amount of Gwen bashing as well. LOL Just as I Ziva bash in BTD)
If I start the community, would you be interested in joining?

Date: 2016-04-18 11:29 pm (UTC)I'm not sure why I started watching NCIS. Probably, it was just on and I thought I'd give it a try. Not even sure now whether I knew at the time that Michael was in it. I was a huge fan of Dark Angel though, so maybe I did.
My crush on David kind of dates me, doesn't it? And now I'm crushing over a boy young enough to be my son! For shame, I'm a bad person!
I tend to be a bit slow with reading because of all the writing I'm doing, but I get there eventually, lol! I used to read a lot more than I do now, the writing has taken over the last three years or so, but I do love it.
Maybe your community could host fic recs as well, remind people of some of the great Ianto-centric fics out there, perhaps starting with the two I recced earlier. the other sites don't seem to do that.

Date: 2016-04-18 11:57 pm (UTC)Well, I'm 4 years older than GDL and 8 years younger than MW, so I guess that's pretty average as far as crushing goes. ;)
I get it! I've been pretty wrapped up in this story. It takes me a bit longer to get through big, complex stories when I'm writing, because I want to give them my full attention and not have a bunch of distractions. But your bits of drabble are kind of perfect reading morsels for a busy brain. Like word dim sum. ;)
The fic recommendations are a good idea! I'm sure you could provide a wealth of those!
I was also thinking it might be fun to have "patchwork fics". It just came to my mind today, so let me see if I can describe it well. Someone would throw out a story idea, and say the story is 2-3 chapters, or whatever. In the comments, the first people to volunteer would write the story with them. The person proposing the story would write the first chapter - the set up. Then the others would be assigned the following chapters and they would complete the story together. But the direction the story takes and the end results would be a complete surprise to the other writers until they are posted.
Does that make any sense? I thought it could be a fun idea. :)

Date: 2016-04-18 09:27 am (UTC)Poor Jack thought he might be getting a two for one deal. I wouldn't envy Ianto having to deal with his double. Some things are better left where they belong.

Date: 2016-04-19 10:22 am (UTC)It would create problems though.
I do have a story in the works where Torchwood Three gets inundated with alternate Jacks and alternate Iantos, and a couple of Doctors, but it's taking a long time to write.
Thank you!
