Jan. 19th, 2016 06:18 pmTitle: A DI’s Tale – Part 1
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: DI Kathy Swanson.
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 379: Cardiff Constabulary at
tw100
Spoilers: Not really.
Summary: Detective Swanson finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.
Being a cop in Cardiff was different to being a cop anywhere else; Kathy had realised that shortly after transferring to the city as a newly promoted Detective Inspector. She had a friend in the London Constabulary who claimed they saw a lot of weirdness there, especially around Christmastime, but Kathy was sure that Cardiff had London beat.
For instance, her friend had never said anything about sharp-toothed monsters lurking in London’s alleys.
Kathy stared at the monster.
It stared back… and growled.
For the first time, she wished that police in Britain carried guns, like they did in America.

Date: 2016-01-20 01:58 am (UTC)In American, they are having problems with gun laws. Its too easy for people to kill with them. Maybe a taser or a tranquilizer would be of helped. But I could understand her though patterns.
Random thought: Didn't Owen became the "king" of the weevils as the actor put it.:D

Date: 2016-01-20 10:42 am (UTC)There are always going to be problems with gun laws, criminals can get them too easily, so people want to be able to defend themselves and that puts too many guns out there on the streets that anyone can get their hands on.
Really, even if she had a gun or a taser, Kathy would be in trouble because she'd have to move in order to draw it and if she moves, the Weevil will probably attack. things aren't looking good for her... ;)
Thank you!

I know the gun issue is complex but something still needs to be done to rectify the problem of massacres.
I guess the government needs to make sure at least psychopaths don't get their hands on one.

Date: 2016-01-22 05:16 am (UTC)Howevet, in Australian there was the Port Arthur Massacre back in the nineties where the Prime Minister of Australia, change the gun laws. There hasn't been an incident to that extreme ever since. I would like to think it helped and not just out of pure luck.
It shouldn't be dangerous to go to work, school or any public place. When children are being killed, its already gone too far.
Bumping up security and paranoia is the only options left.:(

Date: 2016-01-20 11:18 am (UTC)I haven't come up with anything yet, still trying to figure out what to write for the Rush prompt at BTBD.
You'd think I'd come up with a prompt I already had ideas for, wouldn't you? *headdesk*

Date: 2016-01-20 12:58 pm (UTC)The drabble idea was just meant to be one drabble, but then I thought... Oh, why not write s sequel to that one? Then I thought I might as well do all four of my drabbles for the week as one series, but it sort of overran... o_O So, 7-part series this week!
I'm glad I'm up-to-date with all challenges in good time for the n ew one at fan_flashworks tomorrow. It means I can spend today working on one of my unfinished fics =)
Next week is Contest Week at fic_promptly! Get ready to write like mad!
