Summary: Humour can be an effective weapon.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Doctor Who, or the characters.

The Doctor loves jokes; there’s no better tool for annoying his enemies than humour, preferably at their expense. While they try to be their best evil selves, he cracks jokes, taunts them, makes them react impulsively, even irrationally. When people of any species get angry, they make mistakes. It’s a universal constant.

Besides, jokes are funny, and what’s life without a bit of fun? Dead boring, that’s what. Laughter breeds hope, and where there’s hope, anything is possible.

That’s why the Doctor always wins. Not because he’s smarter, although he usually is, but because he knows which buttons to push.

This is great! And makes the perfect point. I'm glad someone wrote this. It's very insightful.

The Doctor always, somehow, turns things we don't expect into weapons to protect people with. His ability to have fun and goof around while doing it makes him no less effective, makes him even moreso, as you've so insightfully pointed out.

He's not a goofball. He's much more clever than that.

But he does like to have fun. And what's more fun that poking holes in a villain's pretentions? :D

The Doctor's been around so long, he knows how to get people and other beings off-guard, how to utilise every trick there is to get the result he wants, and what's the harm in having fun while he does it? It makes life so much more interesting.
