Spoilers: General.

Summary: Regenerating is no picnic.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Doctor Who, or the characters.

It’s the Time Lord way of cheating death, but though it means he continues living, it’s not without its drawbacks, nor is it painless. It’s like an all-consuming fire, searing through every cell of his body, burning away his old self, creating him anew.

Golden flames race along his nerves, shimmer across his skin, forming his body into a new shape, no longer suffering the damage that was killing his old one. When it fades away, he’s unrecognisable, even to himself, and must embark on a voyage of rediscovery to learn who he’s become.

He doesn’t always like the answer.

Nine and Eleven were more at peace with facing their death then Ten was. Which was more sad because he regenerated alone.:(

He was fighting against changing, maybe wanted more desperately to hold on to who he was. He was almost the... youngest personality-wise, both Nine and Eleven seemed more mature.

That's sort of what I was trying to capture in the Doctor Who Drabble I posted yesterday, and a ficlet I posted a few days ago. Regeneration cheats death, but only by making the Doctor into a different person.

I think it must be for the Doctor too, because his old self is dying and he has no idea who he'll be next. That has to be hard.
