Summary: Martha can’t help the way she feels.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Doctor Who, or the characters.

The Doctor’s extraordinary, unique, amazingly wonderful, and oh, he opens Martha’s eyes to things she’d never have dreamed existed, even in her wildest imaginings. It doesn’t matter that he’s an alien; she can’t help but fall in love with him. When he kisses her, out of the blue, her heart beats faster and her knees go weak, and it’s the most incredible feeling.

He invites her to travel with him; she jumps at the chance, because love makes you do crazy things.

But the Doctor’s in love with someone else and her heart breaks a little. He’ll never be hers.

I really love Martha, but what the Doctor and Rose shared together was unique and nobody would ever compare to her. She was and will always be his soulmate.

You perfectly translate how her early excitation slowly morphs into painful disappointment.

Martha was so unlucky. No one could replace Rose in the Doctor's heart, not at that point anyway, and I think she suffered for that.

I always wondered why the Doctor had to kiss Martha directly on the lips for that genetic transfer. But then the Doctor tends to be ignorant of these type of things despite his intelligence.

I'm sure it was merely so RTD could set up the whole unrequited love thing. Still, you're right, the Doctor often doesn't realise how his actions might be interpreted by others.He can be so oblivious about other people's feelings.

I managed to stay ignorant of the whole "Rose is the soulmate", Martha is the "rebound girl" aspect, until Journeys End. I was like: "Really?".

Sorry if I've already mentioned this. I tend to lose track of what I've said to whom.
