Fic Of The Week - Week Thirty Eight

It's Monday, so it's Fic of the Week time again! Hope everyone had a good weekend.

This week I have two short series for our perusal. First up is a very old one from way back in January 2007.

A Taste Of Midnight is by the wonderfully named toestastegood and is in 6 parts. It's rated R, but whether that's for smut or violence, I do not know as I haven't read it yet =)

Summary: An alien attack, a new stalker for Jack and an assault on a vital employee leaves the Torchwood team with a fresh set of problems – especially when Ianto begins to develop a taste for human blood.

The second fic this week is another by christine_twfan .

Measure Of A Team is from November 2008. There are 4 parts, split into 5 posts (part 2 is in 2 parts). This one is set post-Exit Wounds, so there's no Owen or Tosh, and it has an Adult rating and a warning for language. Neither is unusual for a Torchwood fic though, so I can't see that being a problem for potential readers!

Summary: Torchwood has been invited to participate with UNIT on a training exercise. Things don't go according to plan.

I clicked on "Measure of a Team" to see what it was like and ended up reading the whole thing in one go! It's always interesting to see Torchwood from an outsider's P.O.V. and the author has done this one well, with sharply-defined characterizations of the Torchwood team at a difficult time in their career, as well as the O.C. whose perspective this is told from.

Well worth the read. Thanks!

(As I was reading it I kept thinking I've read something with a similar premise, perhaps even something you've recommended? But the other fic was longer, so much so that I think I skimmed a lot of it just to find out how it ended. When you read this let me know if seems somehow familiar to you.)

I'll keep that in mind when I read it. Haven't even started the first one yet, probably start later this evening. I'm trying to make sure the reading doesn't take over and I have some time to write as well. So much to do, so little time!

You might be thinking of my Fic of the Week for Week 29, Potentiality by bjewelled which was about Ianto going to UNIT for training and helping them when a Quantum bomb was in danger of going off, leaving everyone unsure whether they were currently alive or not.

It's a great fic, I loved it. I like seeing strong, capable Ianto dealing with things. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
