Rabbit News

Things haven't gone quite to plan for Misty the rabbit. He was fine yesterday morning, but later on he was a bit listless and uninterested in food - not unheard of, but he's usually full of bounce again again a few hours later. He was bouncier this morning, though still not eating, but I took him to the vet anyway to see if he was well enough for his dental surgery. It seems that in the six days since he was there for his boosters, the overgrown tooth had grown into his cheek and was causing some pain. He's been given painkillers and an x-ray to check what's what, they're trying to tempt him to eat though last I heard he still wasn't interested.

Anyway, he's staying at the vet's overnight and hopefully will be bouncy enough for surgery in the morning, so fingers crossed that everything will be okay and he'll be coming home tomorrow, minus another tooth but comfy, happy and healthy again. He's getting on for eight years old, not a bad age, and aside from the tooth problems he's generally a very healthy rabbit. I'm still worrying though, I do every time he has his teeth done because of the anaesthetic, there's always a risk.

I hope Misty is home again with you very soon. Ida is a young to middle-aged kitty and she has hardly any teeth. But like Misty, she's very healthy otherwise.

Usually he's back home within a day, I don't like him being away overnight, it's too weird!

I know what you mean about going to feed him when he isn't there. We have a cocker spaniel that my hubby got from his grandmother to keep him company in his truck when he's out on the road, also named Misty btw, and when I let the others out into the kennel or go to feed them, I always look around for her before realizing she gone again.

Thank you. It's just so weird when a pet isn't there. He's never had to stay overnight before. I hope he won't miss me too much. Of course, when he does get home, he will probably want nothing to do with me, he never likes going to the vet.

Thank you, I hope that proves true! He's a big, strong rabbit and he's been eating well until yesterday, so hopefully everything will go well.

I will, I'll make another post when I know something. i have to phone the vet at 10am, which is in about 15 minutes, to find out if he's having the surgery today, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed it will go ahead. If it does, i should be able to bring him home this afternoon.

You and Misty will be will be in my thoughts! I was beside myself when one of my senior had to go under general for tooth cleaning, even though there was minimal actual risk. She came out fine and I bet Misty will too. <3<3

Thank you. This is his 6th dental surgery I think, general anaesthetic every time and he's been fine, it's just a matter of whether he's well enough for surgery today. It needs doing. I just wish I'd booked him in for a day or so earlier, then maybe it would have been straightforward. What a difference a day makes.

I'll post to let everyone know when I know something, I'm phoning the vet soon to find out.
