Summary: Ianto meets Jack’s worms.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.

Ianto was extremely relieved to discover that Jack’s worms were of the earthworm variety, although Jack explained they weren’t actually from earth, which was why they were in a wormery in the first place.

“They’re from Veltaxis,” he explained, showing them to Ianto. “They’d thrive here, but regular earthworms would probably be wiped out; they’d be unable to compete.”

The Veltaxis worms were longer and fatter than earth’s worms, strikingly striped black and white, and very sinuous. Ianto could see why Tosh found them so fascinating; they were almost hypnotic.

“I watch them for relaxation,” Jack admitted. “It’s very soothing.”

Jack finds fish dull, lol! Worms are all wormy and wiggly, much more to his taste. They remind him of tentacles, I'm sure, probably bring back happy memories ;)

They're pretty and as they squirm it's like watching a sort of living kaleidoscope, ever-changing monochrome patterns =D

They're quite harmless, they eat decaying vegetation and they're slow moving so they won't chase you. You'd be fine even if one got out. The worm wouldn't fare so well though.

LOL! I know that worms, even ordinary brown earth-bound ones, are our friends and play a vital role in the environment. And that they're really not out to get me. It's just that I used to have nightmares about giant earthworms writhing all over my backyard when I was a kid and I've been wary about them ever since. :-p

Oh!

I've had dreams about the back garden being invaded by hundreds of tortoises, lions, tigers, elephants, cows, wolves, big vicious dogs, Bigfoot, and a giant snake, but never earthworms. I feel cheated =(

I could do with some myself, it might take away some of the stress of waiting to find out what's happening with mum. Hospitals never seem to tell us anything.

Oh yes, there are things they can do together for relaxation, but Jack's had the worms a lot longer than he's had Ianto, and still watches them for relaxation when Ianto isn't there.

Ianto will learn to appreciate the worms in time.
