Summary: Rhys loves Gwen, despite her faults.

A/N: For one of the prompts I didn’t get around to using for tw100’s challenge 292: Billboard Hot 100 last year. I’ve dug them out again to supplement the prompts I got from my f-list, just because there are still loads I wanted to use. Prompt at end.

Rhys knows with every inch of his being that Gwen’s the only one for him, although he doesn’t always know why. He’s not blind, he knows she has a roving eye, has seen her checking out that flash boss of hers and is painfully aware he doesn’t measure up in comparison

She’s not perfect. She can be shallow, self-involved, hypocritical and oblivious, but she’s also loving, caring and compassionate, and that’s the Gwen he cherishes.

After all, he’s not perfect either.

So tonight he’ll go down on one knee, say: “Gwennie, will you marry me?” and hope she says yes.

He's a very good man, with a big heart, but he's not really blind to Gwen's faults, he simply accepts them and loves her anyway.

He's a saint! He sees Gwen clearly yet still loves her! What an amazing, wonderful man.

I wanted to show Rhys as someone who's not at all deluded, he's under no illusions about Gwen, but he sees enough in her that's good for him to love her in spite of her faults. Too often Rhys is depicted as this poor fool who's blinded by love, but I think he's better and more realistic than that.

Rhys gets depicted so often as the poor ignorant sap, but I prefer to believe that he knows exactly what Gwen's like, and while she has some qualities he's not keen on, he thinks she's still the one because of her better qualities. Torchwood has changed her, and not all for the better, but his Gwennie is still there and he believes in time that she'll adjust, find a way to balance her two worlds better and be the woman he loves again.

That's just the thing with love - you can't really choose who you fall in love with. I so often feel bad for Rhys. He deserves to be treated a lot better than Gwen treats him.

Yep this guy has his eyes wide open and I'm glad he realizes what she's like and her lust for Jack. I often wondered how she behaved with Rhys after Jack left for the last time... good drabble!

Thank you! I got tired of Rhys being the poor, ignorant sap, so I decided he wasn't like that at all. He has no illusions about Gwen, but he sees a side of her we (the viewers) don't see and therefore still loves her.
