Summary: Berkeley Rose’s first encounter with Ryo and Dee.

A/N: Written for hisoka44 who wanted to know what Rose’s first impressions of Ryo and Dee might be. This one’s a double drabble.

Berkeley Rose is still busy with his somewhat unofficial investigation when he runs into the man from the balcony again. It’s not the first meeting he was hoping for; for one thing, he’s pointing his gun at his mystery man and for another, the man’s not alone. Oh, and there’s blood on the floor. Damn, he should probably collect some evidence. What a nuisance. Still, business before pleasure.

It turns out the two men are also cops on vacation, what a delightful coincidence. Or not. The dark haired one seems resistant to his not inconsiderable charm. Well, no matter. Berkeley’s not interested in him anyway; he’s a typical New York street punk, brash and abrasive. He’s met the type before, many times. They tend to be hot-tempered, all brawn and no brains with a chip the size of Manhattan on their shoulders. Not like the beautiful Detective Maclean at all.

Suggesting they all work together to solve the case doesn’t go down too well. Detective Latyner somewhat childishly storms out. Doesn’t like playing with others, apparently. Maclean follows, but not before giving Rose a piece of his mind. He’s feisty; Rose likes that in a man. This could prove interesting.

Because he's arrogant and used to getting whatever he wants? Really, he and Dee aren't that much alike when you think about it. Dee is more considerate of Ryo as a person, wants him because of the man he is, not just because of how he looks (okay, at first it was just his looks). Rose wants Ryo as a pretty trophy to show off.

How do you know that Rose just wants Ryo as 'eye-candy'? AFAIK there's nothing in the manga to suggest that. ...or I didn't (want to) see it. ^.^;;
Besides, IF Rose got to know Ryo better - just like Dee! - he would be even more interested in him. The first thing you see of a person IS their exterior, so...
Just give him a chance to go deepe--No! Now that just sounds MA-rated, doesn't it?

LOL! It does sound rather verging on X-rated, as it would be here!

I don't know what it is, it's just the impression I get, and I'll admit my perceptions may have been coloured a little by reading the fake_2nd_chance role-playing game, but Rose strikes me as someone used to getting his own way because of his position in life. He seems to be from a wealthy background, and just automatically assumes that if he's interested in someone he can just have whatever he wants. Ryo, on the other hand, is not someone who would be swayed by lavish gifts and expensive dinners. He can't be bought, or manipulated. Rose is used to flashing his wealth and having people fall at his feet. That's why I think Diana is good for him. It's not his money she wants, just the man. She knows him inside out.

This entire Act from the manga is a very self-contained story, so I'm trying to cover as much as I can through two sequences of drabbles telling the story from several different perspectives. I have a couple more parts to write so I'm going to try to get another part written in a minute =)
