Summary: Jack’s gone, but Ianto is holding on to hope.

A/N: For the prompt ‘Cups (Pitch Perfect's When I'm Gone)’, one of the prompts I didn’t get around to using for tw100’s challenge 292: Billboard Hot 100 last year. I’ve dug them out again to supplement the prompts I got from my f-list, just because there are still loads I wanted to use.

Jack was gone, vanished without trace. Was he taken or did he just leave? It was a shock, but Ianto had to admit he wasn’t really surprised. He thought he knew who Jack had left with; what hurt was that he hadn’t cared enough about them to say goodbye.

He looked at the extra cup of coffee he’d fetched. What a waste.

Still, all the time Jack was gone, Ianto found himself reaching for Jack’s mug whenever he made coffee. At the back of his mind, a little voice kept telling him ‘Don’t give up hope; Jack will come home.’

Yes, but at least he was right to keep hoping, even though there were some hard times. He believed Jack would return, and Jack didn't let him down.

Yeah, but I don't think he falls apart or gets super-depressed. Ianto's tough, he stands tall and gets on with things. Someone has to keep Torchwood going, and it's always been his job to make sure everything runs smoothly

Jack will come home. And he didn't think he needed to say good bye because the doctor has a time machine - he should have been back before anyone noticed he was gone.
