Fic Of The Week - Week Twelve

Two really good fics last week, so only one this week.

I think I'm possibly being a bit overambitious with this week's choice, but if I can't get through it in one week, I'll just pick one shorter fic for next week.

This week's choice will probably already be familiar with a lot of people (judging by the number of comments it's amassed, it's very popular), so if you've already read it, sorry!

Time Enough is by veronicaluv and is one of those fics that I've been itching to read, but haven't got around to because of lack of time. It's only 13 parts, but they are LONG parts, the total coming to over 66,000 words. I'm not a fast reader, I like to savour what I'm reading and give people's carefully constucted stories the attention they deserve, I'm just hoping I can manage to read at least two chapters a day.

There's no real summary, but this is Ianto's journey, starting, as far as I can make out from reading the first paragraph, in the aftermath of Cyberwoman and rated R for bad language, violence and non-graphic sex. I can't wait to read it!

veronicaluv is the author of one of my favourite CoE fix-it fics - well, not so much a fix-it as a compete re-write that makes far more sense than the original - Forever For You - An Alternate Tale Of The 456. The first fic looks really great Jean. I read half a page so far...LOL!...and I love it! I have a short-cut. I will let you know if I keep at it. Not sure what you meant about the last 2 chapters....?...hope it's not awful. I didn't think you had read it yet, but sometimes you post ones that you have read.....I'm a-rambling......

Oh will bookmark second one too. I'm sure it is good too. :) It is a complete re-write! Oh I am excited about that. The movie kind of sucked in my opinion though there were some things I liked about it...mostly the acting...oh I can't think right now.

I think you might have mis-read what I wrote - I have to read 2 chapters a day to get through the entire fic in a week! Actually, I'm posting fics I haven't read yet for Fic of the Week, because otherwise I won't ever get through the huge backlog I have to read. I made a mistake one week though, with a fic it turned out I HAD read before, but I didn't realise until I saw a comment from me!

The CoE re-write is really good, I mentioned it here because... well, it's the same author and it's brilliant and has a happy ending. It's not a Fic of the Week fic, but it is a fic rec for anyone who hasn't read it. I'm hoping to read some of Time Enough in a bit.

Did you get my email this afternoon? I replied to the one you sent me, but I don't know if you got it. I wrote a long email, but then got told there was a problem with sending, and then it wouldn't save, so I may have lost everything I wrote =( If you didn't get my reply I'll have to try to rewrite it tomorrow after my doctor's appointment.

OH! I got it now. I did get it mixed up with the Fic of the week you thought you had not read, my brain is jello and I am sleepy all the time. So hard to concentrate.

I REALLY want to read the COE re-write. I may read that one first instead! Oh! I so wanted a happy ending to it! Oh and being a re-write is even better. I can't wait to see what she wrote!

Ok, confused, as usual. Did you mean emails or posts on LJ or DW. lol! I have a "long" email from you about your doc appointment and replying I think to where I have traveled. Then there is a post on DW. where I was talking about my panic attack this morning.

Yes! You got it! The long email was the one I thought hadn't sent. It wouldn't let me save the draft, so I thought I would have to try to remember what I wrote and my brain is just NOT working tonight. I'm tired and wheezy =(

The comment replies I knew had posted 'cause I could see them on my journals, but with emails, sometimes you just gotta hope! It said there was a problem with sending and I should save it and try again later, but it wouldn't save... Anyway, glad you got it.

I've read two chapters of Time Enough so far, hope to read another chapter tonight. I'm enjoying it, but then I knew I would because veronicaluv is a really great writer. I think you'll enjoy the CoE rewrite - there are sad bits and angsty bits, but the Torchwood team don't behave like idiots and they get the job done! And most importantly, Ianto lives! Well worth reading =)

YAY! I figured Ianto would live...well that was the point partly of the re-write...(I make no sense again!) sorry.....Oh I sometimes love sad and angsty if it is done right, and I am glad the TW team are back and not these weird drones, that only look like the team we loved. (did that make sense?) Well you know what I mean. I remember thinking....who are these people? Especially Jack! For all the bad/sad things he has done to save humanity, this was the worst and out of character even for him. IMO. Worse still was the way he treated Ianto, he was so cold and mean when he talked to him. Occasionally he would slip back into the old caring Jack and smile and talk to him. Only kissed Ianto when he thought he was going to be blown-up and kissed Ianto when they were dying on Day 4. Nothing about the relationships made sense to me. Gwen was still being bitchy (that actually was normal for her) and once actually came out of character when Jack got his new clothes and "coat" from Ianto and Jack said, "I'm back." and slapped Gwen's hand. That is the only time I remember her smiling. Not like Gwen at all. I wish she was more like that and had been.

Yeah, CoE was a mess, the characters twisted out of character in order to fit the 'plot' instead of the plot being written around the characters. Very little of it made any sense to me.

I should be at the doctor's now but I cancelled. I was feeling like crap most of the night and barely slept, just don't have the energy to trek to the surgery. I'll try to nap during the day and I'll have to make another appointment. I wouldn't be safe driving in my current state.

Going to relax today and read. *weary hugs*

Oh, I'm sorry you didn't rest well. I love cancelling doctor appointments, lol! No I hope you can reschedule soon. I haven't slept well the last 2 nights. Well last night was my fault for staying up till 2:00 a.m. I got obessed with trying to take captures of NCIS...um? ah?...downloads Michael has....wish I had the DVD's, wish I had the money for them. I have to save my money for new summer clothes and unfortuately a new bathing suit or two....Great!...that's me on the beach! "Shamu!" lol! Do you know about Shamu over here? She is a huge Killer Whale that performs at "Sea World." Sea World is in Florida and I have been there and you probably know this already..... :D

I'm sorry your so weary. I have days like that. Yesterday was bad; I wanted to reply to you more on here and it was just too hard to type early in the day like now. By the time I feel like doing stuff it is late here and you are either asleep or about to be as you know. Really sucks!

Oh, I'm sorry I have not answered your email yet. I will do my best to do it today/tonight. Courtney "may" come over tonight and if that happens, I can't do much. I end up having to serve them cola's and pop-sicles! =P I'm such a "cheery" Mom aren't I?! :/

Ugh, still not feeling well but battling on. Hope I can sleep tonight. I'll reschedule the doctor's appointment when my stomach isn't acting up. On the bright side, I have now read 8 chapters of Time Enough, only 5 more to go so with luck I will manage to read it all this week. Touch wood. I'm not really supersticious, but some days I just don't want to tempt fate, lol!

Hope Courtney behaves and that she and Alex don't make a mess.

Surprisingly, I have heard of Shamu - and I don't for a second believe you're that big! Bigger than you ideally want to be, I know, but not whale-sized! You really shouldn't put yourself down. *hugs*

I hope your stomach feels better soon. I have a fun-filled one tomorrow afternoon with my OBGYN....I am having a problem, I want go into details that I need her to look at.

It is great that you have read 8 chapters. Wow! I wish I had the time to do that, well I use my time badly a lot.

No Coutney yet; we are going out to eat in a bit so maybe when we get back it will be too late for her to come over. Not sure I can take it tonight. I need to wash clothes as always and clean the kitchen. I would rather be here playing on my computer. lol!

Yes, you noticed that I put myself down...well it is obvious. I am not that big I know. I just wish I wish I had the will-power to lose weight.

Oh well maybe it doesn't show up in email like your others do. Just go to Live Journal, click on on my name, my lj and you can see it. If not I will just email it and forget the filter. I wonder why it didn't work? It has worked with all the others I have sent to? Like you say might be your email. No big deal, just wanted to try it out. We can talk private through email. :D

It has worked, your filtered message is in my inbox this morning! Like I said, emails don't always reach me in the order they're sent. It probably showed up last night, but I went to bed earlier than usual so I only just found it. Going to read and reply to it now.

It's good that we know it works, even if it takes a little longer to reach me!

Ooo! I'm new to your journal and didn't know you had THIS going on. What fun! A quick glance at what you've already recced reveals some stories I'm familiar with and some I'm not and I look forward to discovering some new (old) stories.

I think I'll start with this one. Love a good post-Cyberwoman fic. :)

Welcome! Pull up a fic and join in the fun! I'm 20 weeks into my self-set challenge and finding a wide range of new and old stories, hopefully something for all tastes. There are so many fics I never got around to reading when they were posted, and fics that were posted before I had internet access. My To Read list is massive, so it seemed a good idea to try to get through one or two a week. I'm keeping away from the very long ones this year as reading time is limited, but maybe next year I'll tackle some of the longer ones.
