Summary: Torchwood brings a hideous crime spree to its end.

A/N: I managed to squeeze out one more drabble for this challenge, but it’ll probably be my last, I’m out of ideas unless anyone has a suggestion or two. Still, twelve is a pretty good score, I’m happy with that!

They’d come all the way to the Brecon Beacons, hoping to solve the mystery of lone travellers going missing without a trace. Even though the area was far beyond the reach of the Rift, they’d automatically assumed that aliens were somehow involved; they couldn’t have been more wrong.

How long had this band of cannibals been preying on the unwary? How many generations of these inbred ghouls had been treating their fellow humans as cattle, a convenient source of food?

Well, no more. Long overdue it might be, but these monsters would finally get what they deserved for their crimes.

There was an episode in the XFiles similar to this; it gave me the same sense of 'serious squick' this one did. Coming from a Native culture, I truly believe that the victims' spiritual energy aided the TW gang to escape and put a stop to this monstrous predation. (And I realize that there are South Seas cultures that practiced it but Brecon Beacons isn't in the South Seas.) Humans can sometimes be the biggest monsters of them all in some situations...

Y'know, Torchwood should have done something with that, had the victims' spirits intervene, because that would really have added to the episode.

Humans usually are the worst monsters.

I always kinda wished Jack had done more than shoot their kneecaps when he came barrelling into the rescue. :)

Half of me would have preferred that, but then again, if they're dead they can't answer questions. The police will want to give the families of the victims what closure they can so they need to know where the remains have been buried etc.

That was the only episode of Torchwood that actually disturbed me, brilliant episode but scary.

Yeah, the images, even what you didn't see but hear about, were seriously disturbing! It was a scary episode BECAUSE it was humans and not aliens.

I agree that having them alive to get information on their victims would be advantageous, but that doesn't stop me from also wishing Jack had inflicted a whole lot more pain on them. God knows they'd deserve it all.

This episode and "Adam" run pretty neck-in-neck on my creepy scale. This one was just plain ghoulish and gruesome, especially because it was humans doing the unspeakable. "Adam" gave me the creeps because the idea of being completely mentally controlled by someone or something without even knowing it is scary as hell to me.

Yeah, the whole idea of having someone getting inside your head and changing things, making you believe things, changing your whole personality, compelling you to trust them... *shudders*

Jack should have shot out the cannibals kneecaps! That would make sure they wouldn't try to get away!
