Summary: Lisa’s final end was long overdue.

Lisa was gone.

If he was brutally honest with himself, Ianto had suspected she was gone long before the team had killed her. From the moment the conversion had started, the cyber implants had been chipping away at her mind, her personality, everything that made her human. They’d gradually consumed Lisa, leaving behind only a shell inhabited by a soulless, emotionless mockery of the warm and wonderful woman he’d loved.

But he couldn’t let her go.

Instead of hating his colleagues, he should be thanking them for doing what he should have done months ago; they’d finally ended her suffering.

Lovely...I like the way Jack handled the aftermath and didn't retcon Ianto. I just wonder if there had been anything in Torchwood One's archive on the Cybermen; surely there had to be some mention of the conversion process because only love blinded him to the severe damage she suffered..

There could only be something in the archives if Torchwood had encountered the Cybermen before, and as far as I know, they hadn't. UNIT wouldn't share information with Torchwood, so there's a good chance that no one at Torchwood had any idea what the metal men were or that once conversion starts the person is essentially dead. Ianto would have tried anyway, because Lisa was only partly converted, she still looked like herself, it would be easy for him to fool himself into thinking that Lisa could be saved if he just tried hard enough, but I doubt there was much information on Cybermen for him to look at, at least until he got to Torchwood Three. Jack would know about them I expect.

It's not even what I was going to write, it was supposed to be Ianto planning a long overdue visit to his sister now that Lisa was gone and he had time on his hands, but... I guess the muses had other ideas!

Ianto thought he was doing the right thing, he didn't realise at first that Lisa couldn't be saved and even when he started to suspect, he couldn't bring himself to give up on her.

They did, which was nice of them. It works as a sequel to this one. I'll post it tomorrow, I just wanted to put up something happier for Ianto's Birthday today and I didn't have time for much because of a hospital appointment that took up most of the morning. I didn't have time to write Ianto a birthday fic this year.
