Summary: Tosh finds fulfilment working for Torchwood.

A/N: For the prompt ‘Doin' What She Likes’, one of the prompts I didn’t get around to using for tw100’s challenge 292: Billboard Hot 100 last year. I’ve dug them out again to supplement the prompts I got from my f-list, just because there are still loads I wanted to use.

Tosh knew Jack worried about the hours she put in. Ever since he’d rescued her from the UNIT prison, he’d been trying to persuade her to take time off, have fun, live a little. But she felt exposed on the streets of Cardiff without him, as if UNIT might swoop in and drag her back to her cell.

Besides, she loved being in the Hub, surrounded by Mainframe’s soothing hum, studying alien artefacts and technology. What was there out in the world that could better the feeling her job gave her?

She was doing what she liked best of all.

Tosh is just awesome. I always thought she got such a raw deal from UNIT (this actually was the act that had me hating UNIT) but if it hadn't happened she would never have gotten into Torchwood.

Good point, though it's a horrible was to go about joining Torchwood. Poor Tosh!

She did, but she found a place to belong, where she was cherished and treated with respect, at least by some people.

Thank God Jack rescued poor Tosh from UNIT's clutches. What happened to her really was so unfair. It makes you wonder who else they've got locked away that doesn't deserve their fate.

I know this was what attracted Jack's attention to her, but I like to think Jack still would have found her somehow anyway. I think it was her destiny to work for the extraordinary Torchwood.

I'm sure Jack would have tracked her down anyway, she had just the kind of brilliance that he wanted for his new Torchwood.

UNIT didn't care, she wasn't a person to them.

I certainly prefer to be in my safe haven than out in the world! Of course I'm still an agoraphobia sufferer, even though I'm better than I used to be. i can understand Tosh's fear of the world outside and her desire to stay in an environment that is more undersandable to her.

Being locked up even once can give one a sense of paranoia about being out on their own without backup so it's not hard to understand where she's coming from, when I look at my son's situation. But Jack values Tosh and not just for her job; she's more the Torchwood heart for me than Gwen.

Let's face it, even Owen is more the heart of Torchwood than Gwen is! Tosh is a gentle soul who didn't deserve the punishment she was handed. She recovered from her incarceration as far as was possible, but it took time. When she first joined Torchwood, the Hub was the only place she really felt safe.

Aww *hugs poor tosh*
This is great the way you capture her emotions in that early time. It is so sad that unit could do that to her- stop her feeling safe in the outside world. Of course she feels better when jack is around, but then he is a dashing hero.
At least she has the hub to retreat to where she is safe and valued be needed.

The Hub is Tosh's safe haven, but also like an Aladdin's cave full of treasures to explore, it gives her a feeling of purpose. She feels safest when outside the Hub if Jack is with her, but she knows she can't have him with her constantly.
