A/N: Some of Ryo’s thoughts are borrowed from the manga.

Randy Maclean was… not exactly worried, but definitely less than happy.

He’d finally made detective, so here he was; new precinct, new partner, first case and what did he get? A homicide soured by drugs. Just wonderful! Nothing like getting thrown in at the deep end to get the new guy off to a good start.

Chin in hand he stared morosely into space.

‘I thought rookies got rookie assignments. Guess I thought wrong.’

Dee seemed entirely too gung-ho about everything. Honestly, didn’t anything bother him?

Thinking about it, the only thing that worried Randy was his partner.

‘I’m doomed.’

Ryo will learn, but they only met a few minutes ago, they haven't had a chance to get to know each other yet. And when they do, Dee's life is going to be turned upside down just as completely as Ryo's. He doesn't realise it yet, but his days of playing the field just came to an abrupt halt. Pretty soon, Ryo will be the only person Dee's interested in.

Well, not really - his name is Randy Maclean, but his mom was Japanese so he also has a Japanese name - Ryo. Dee notices right away that he has some Japanese in him and asks if Ryo minds him using his Japanese name. Then most of the other detectives copy Dee, though Ryo still introduces himself as Randy.

I have a couple of drabbles written aboyt their forst impressions of each other, which I meant to post before this one, but the Drone series te my brain and it was all I could do to keep up with posting that before the deadline. I still have so many things I want to write just about the earliest scenes in the manga - this scene is on page 10, lol!
