Summary: Is it a case of third time’s the charm?

Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.

“You have to turn off autopilot before trying to fly it manually,” Tosh explained patiently. “Then it won’t crash like that.”

“Don’t bet on that,” Owen piped up. “We’ve all seen how Jack drives.”

“He’s an experienced pilot, I’m sure it’ll be fine.” Tosh had confidence in Jack’s abilities even if no one else did.

Truthfully, Jack was better at piloting than driving and this time the Hub test went beautifully. The drone was soon zipping about, pausing to hover over various items, collecting and transmitting data.

Everything went so well Tosh decided they were ready to start field tests.

Oh, now it gets interesting! I wonder what will be the first exciting thing that the drone discovers outside... (let's hope it won't get caught by a raptor!)

I haven't decided what it's going to find yet, there are so many things it MIGHT find - is is big or small? Living or inanimate? Lethal or hamless? In one piece or scattered over a wide are? Or John Hart? LOL!

Tosh believes in Jack - it's not blind faith though, she knows he's capable once he curbs his enthusiasm a bit.

Field test eventually, when there's some reason to use it - Hub fun first. I haven't written all the field test yet, still not sure what will come through the Rift!

Third time's the charm. Now they just have to worry about the fourth, fifth and sixth times.

I love how much trust Tosh has in Jack's piloting abilities, even though she's never seen him fly. Obviously, Ianto would know about his WWI and WWII experiences, and Tosh does too, since she's Tech Genius Extraordinaire AND traveled back to 1941 with him but, I wonder if Gwen or Owen know anything about it. From Owen's comment, it sounds like he, at least, is out of the loop.

Owen just doesn't trust Jack's abilities - or anyone else's most of the time, it's just the way he is, the eternal pessimist. Gwen probably giggled at Jack's disaster, Ianto rolled his eyes, but Tosh just has faith that Jack can do it. By this point they all know Jack is from the future, they probably know he can fly spacecraft, or he's told them he can anyway. None of them have seen him do so though so it all comes down to trust and belief, and Tosh just knows in her heart of hearts that Jack is a pilot.

So, Jack can fly the drone, but what will he do with it next?

Is it just me or is anyone else thinking it's only a matter of time before Jack thinks of something kinky to try to talk Ianto into doing with the drone?

He's doing fine now he's had it drilled into him that he has to turn off autopilot manually first, it's not automatic!

Huzzah! I knew he could do it if he just calmed down a little. And actually, you know, listened to the instructions Tosh was giving him instead of just pushing buttons!

To be fair, Jack just expected it to switch over automatically when someone took the controls. Tosh plans to fix that later, this is a prototype after all, she'll improve it over time, hopefully get the size down as well. At the moment it's like a flying cube on short legs, about a foot square, and about the same in height including the helicopter-like flight rotor on the top.

I think Tosh would veto that idea. She trusts Jack, now he's got the hang of it but Owen is too erratic.
