Summary: Ianto faces yet another of his annual Torchwood tasks.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.

Ianto frowned and glared accusingly at the small green frond. He didn’t know where they came from, but every spring it was the same. One day there would be nothing but bare concrete, the next day little green shoots would have appeared overnight, peeping out of cracks and crevices around the Rift pool.

It didn’t matter how inhospitable and unsuitable a place might seem, there was always some kind of plant that would find a way to grow there.

Sighing, he fetched a kneeling pad and his tools. Weeds. They’d end up taking over the Hub if they weren’t stopped.

There's green things sprouting everywhere, I know how Ianto feels. He has a certain amount of admiration for their tenacity, it's a shame to pull them up but it's necessary. Given enough time, they could bring the whole hub down if not dealt with. Roots can break concrete.

Poor Ianto, I know how he feels, my side walk tends to grow those little green weeds as much as my back garden.
So know he has to add the gardener task to his already long list, maybe they appear because they know Ianto has green fingers ....

Weeds grow everywhere, especially where they're not supposed to grow. Which is why they're weeds I guess. Poor Ianto, weeding underground...

I like dandelions, don't mind them at all. The buttercups are far more invasive and we have Mourning Widow geraniums all over what should be the lawn because of the way they disperse their seeds. Lovely plant, but not when it's taken over the lawn. It has to be dug out, plant by plant.

Don't quite know how you made that jump. CoE would have been in the future, if it ever happened (and I seldom allow it to, the last drabble was an aberration, just an idea that popped into my head.)

I'm having trouble coming up with any other ideas for the 'Weeds' prompt.

Me neither; that just popped up, but it was those lines that did it ... it just 'spoke' of what that witch Johnson would do, considering how Jack had to be 'weeded' out of the Hub by the government action and she was the 'weed killer'. I wasn't ingesting anything, honest! The tone of that piece sort of broadsided me with that image...

Maybe you could compare it to what TW does? "Weeding" out dangerous alien life while making life safer on Earth? I can see how difficult that word is as a prompt!

It's strange sometimes the way our brains work with just a word or phrase triggering thoughts that might seem totally irrelevant. I can see where you're coming from now. Johnson trying to destroy Torchwood b
ut it sort of re-grew - or at least Jack did. Like when prairies burn but then new shoots come through from the blackenerd ground.

wWeeding out the bad aliens... Hmm, that's an interesting angle, it might work. I'll give it some thought, thanks. =)

Yes, and Ianto feels sympathy for these, struggling to live in hostile conditions. He hates having to kill them but they could undermine the Hub's foundations if allowed to grow, so they have to go. He might sneakily put some in pots though. Owen probably wouldn't notice a few more plants in the hothouse, lol!

I would advocate keeping a small patch of green in a location that would not interfere. some photosynthesis in the hub.
But it is true that they have the greenhouse.
By cons, it could be a green invasion ...

They have plenty of plants growing where they are useful and won't cause damage. The weeds are not in good places though. Given enough time, they could cause a lot of harm with their roots.
