Spoilers: Nada.

Summary: Jack knows that Torchwood agents are likely to die young.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.

A/N: My sixteenth drabble for this challenge.

Working for Torchwood was dangerous. Everyone knew that. Few Torchwood agents lived into their thirties; living long enough to draw their pensions was a distant dream.

Each mission could be their last; it was something they’d learned to live with. The only one who could count on being alive tomorrow was Jack, yet despite the danger they all knew they were right where they wanted to be, doing a job that mattered, and that made it okay.

Jack understood how they felt, but at the end of each day he thanked the gods that his team hadn’t joined the fallen.

Yeah, it's a constant worry for him, especially knowing that if he gets killed he won't be able to protect them until he revives.

And that's why Jack is a better leader than he thinks; he does appreciate his team and is very thankful that those gods are protecting them.

I don't know what's worse: Being scared for you own life or worrying about the lifes of others, knowing that you yourself will never die...
Either way, you must be very passionate about your job to work for Torchwood and take that risk every day! (Then again, other jobs can be dangerous too)

It must be so hard being responsible for putting the lives of his team in danger, knowing there's only so much he can do to protect them. They understand the dangers, he just does his best to keep them safe whenever he can.

He lives in fear of losing his team, he's responsible for them yet he has to send them out to risk their lives. It must be a terrible situation to be in.
