Summary: Jack and the Doctor have very different ideas about what’s important.

“Jaaaack,” the Doctor drawled, exasperated with his travelling companion. “Priorities! We’re not here for leisure, or whatever you’re planning!”


“I wasn’t planning anything!” Jack turned a look of injured innocence on the Doctor. “I was being friendly. You’d be surprised how much you can learn just by making friends with people. You should try it sometime.”


“I can imagine what you were learning just then, and this isn’t the time.”


“That’s your problem; you never have time for fun. Loosen up a bit!”


“I have plenty of fun, just not your sort of fun.”


“You don’t know what you’re missing!”

I think people do Jack a disservice thinking he's interested in nothing but sex. It's not true. He's right, being friendly is an effective way of getting useful information. The Doctor just misconstrues everything Jack does. Nothing wrong with being flirty.

It depends on who is on the receiving end. Luckily Jack seems to know when to put on the charm or not. From the Doctor's perspective, he is just being cautious. The Doctor doesn't understand about human relationships. So I never bought him being "in love" with Rose.

Jack's good at reading people and behaves accordingly.

I never brought into the romance with Rose either. Companions are better as friends.

Jack likes to use humour to diffuse the situation if there's conflict as well.

Jackie:...Is that a different face or is he a different person?
Rose: How should I know! Sorry. The thing is, I thought I knew him, mom. I thought me and him were…. And then he goes and does this. I keep forgetting he’s not human.

True. RTD living vicariously through Rose I guess.

RTD thinks we're suppose to act all "love sick", which would only happen if one isn't self-aware enough.

RTD is an idiot when it comes to relationships.

Buffy understands better than RTD ever will, and she's fictional.

I certainly did not like Rose's lack of character development. Co-dependent relationships are unhealthy.

At least you could see where Buffy matured. She went through alot of trauma as well. Among other things.

Yeah, it's like RTD doesn't know how to develop female characters. He creates them and they stay the same.

Despite all Joss Whedon's many, many faults and character flaws, he did make sure every one of his characters developed from season to season, showing how their experiences made them grow and mature. RTD has never had that talent.

Martha had to deal with The Year That Never Was, and Donna forgot her time with The Doctor. Moffat carried on with writing Companions out dramatically.:(

I don't know much about Series 11, but I heard Series 12 was better in comparison. Overall, I can't review The Chris Chibnall era.*shrugs*

Well, we do want some drama in Doctor Who.

I saw a bit of the last series, it wasn't terrible, but I still don't enjoy Thirteen.

Yeah. That's part of every story. The Moffat era was bittersweet.

Maybe Jodie doesn't know how to play an Alien?*shrugs*

I liked his era best to be honest.

Jodie is trying too hard to be like the Tenth Doctor instead of bringing her own slant to the character. Either that or she's just too much like David Tennant in the first place. I'm not keen on her as an actor anyway.

RIVER SONG: When you love the Doctor, it's like loving the stars themselves. You don't expect a sunset to admire you back.

I can see what you mean. Moffat got to address some issues from the RTD era.

All the actors before Jodie Whittaker were fans of the show. Matt Smith had to research and became a fan through that. I feel like Jodie just wasn't passionate enough about the role to make it her own.

I had no problems with her acting in Broadchurch. I just didn't like when Beth was giving Ellie a hard time. But my beef on that can be left for another post*sighs*

Yes, he dealt with a lot of stuff and did it well. RTD left a bit of a mess behind.

Exactly! It's a job for her, just like any other, but for the other actors, it was kind of a love affair.

I've never seen Broadchurch. I don't watch much British TV.
