Double Drabble: Banned

Summary: All Jack wants to do is take care of the garden.

A/N: Double drabble.




Mid-summer, and the roof garden Jack and Ianto had planted was blooming in what seemed like a hundred colours or more. There were flowers everywhere, their fragrant blooms nodding in a gentle breeze.


Pottering around outside, Jack was doing some weeding when he noticed how dry the soil between the plants was getting after several sunny days in a row, so he fetched the hose from the shed and was connecting it to the tap when Ianto came outside.


“Jack, stop! What’re you doing?”


Pausing, Jack frowned at his lover. “I’m going to water the garden.”


“You can’t, not with that! Don’t you know there’s a hosepipe ban? We’re in the middle of a drought!”


“How can it be a drought? We’re in Wales, and anyway, it rained last week. I know, I was out in it. I got wet.”


“It was a dry winter, we didn’t even get any snow, and now the water level in the reservoirs is way down, so the use of hosepipes has been banned. They waste too much water.”


“But the flowers, and the fruit trees! They’ll die if we don’t water them!” Jack protested.


“You’ll just have to use the watering can instead.”

Bans can be a nuisance, especially with a big garden. Ianto will help Jack with the watering, and if they get splashed and have to strip off, well every cloud has a silver lining

Of course Ianto will help, ad he'll instruct Jack on the best times for watering, early morning or evening, when the sun isn't shining on the plants. That way the water doesn't immediately evaporate.
