The ability to come up with solutions to weird problems at a moment’s notice was a must for Torchwood agents; they never knew what they might be faced with next. The Rift not only spat out objects at random, it usually left them in the most inconvenient places it could find.

“Now what’re we supposed to do?” Owen grumbled.

This time it wasn’t a case of not being able to find the Rift’s latest gift; they could see it clearly, it was certainly big enough, they just couldn’t reach it.

The frustrating thing was that Cardiff and its surroundings had been enjoying a spell of warm, dry weather. If the object, a piece of heavy machinery, possibly part of a spacecraft, had landed anywhere else, there wouldn’t have been a problem. Unfortunately, it had fallen smack in the middle of an immense and muddy pig wallow. The pigs were none too happy about it, and Ianto supposed he couldn’t blame them.

“We have two choices,” he said. “We either wade in and fetch it, or try to lasso it and haul it out that way.”

“You know how to use a lasso?”

“No, but now’s a good time to learn.”

The End

Ever pragmatic IANTO ALWAYS GETs straight to the point. Learn by doing is his creed, and it serves him well. Given a , choice between wading into pig slurry and hauling it out. It's not too hard to decide
