Summary: Jack hears voices on the wind.

A/N: Double drabble. This one’s for red_day_dawning’s prompt ‘voices in the wind’.
There were voices in the wind. That was one reason Jack spent so much time in high places. He could hear them more clearly there.
He knew them all.
They were his family, long gone and yet unborn. The friends who’d passed on and the lovers he’d left before he had to watch them grow old and die while he remained the same.
They were the people he’d failed; those he couldn’t save and those who would have been better off if he hadn’t.
They were the ones whose lives he’d taken with his own hands. He remembered every one.
Through his childhood on Boeshane, his years with the Time Agency, and the centuries since Rose had saved and cursed him with a single act, he had loved and lost so many good people.
Through work and war he’d been responsible for more deaths than his conscience could bear. They haunted his dreams
But there remained one voice that would never become an echo on the wind; that of the man who stood beside him now, as unchanging as Jack himself.
He would be eternally grateful for the sacrifice Ianto had made in order to stay by his side forever.

I almost always put in the header if there are spoilers, naming the episode or episodes there are spoilers for, so people can avoid being spoiled. I do write canon-based drabbles but I think I only have one canon-based fic - A Hero's Return. The others are the way I want things to be, and most are just written for fun. I'm known for my silly stories, lol!

Date: 2014-03-25 02:07 pm (UTC)My latest Fic of the Week choice has rewritten the first series in a wonderful way with Ianto as a very intriguing alien/human hybrid. He's adorable! Some of the story is pretty grim though, especially the first couple of chapters. It's so amazing the way people come up with so many different ideas, it's why I love Torchwood fanfiction so much =)

Jack tends to dwell on the worst parts of his life instead of remembedring all the good he's done, but Ianto remembers.

Ianto is newly immortal and standing with Jack on a roof, looking out over Cardiff as Jack thinks of everyone he's lost, sort of says goodbye to all that before focusing on the one he's gained to walk alongside him throughout time. =)

It's also like a follow-up to my fic Fixed Points, I see it as being set just after that with Jack and Ianto on a roof and Jack sort of letting go of the voices from his past, they won't haunt him the way they did now he has someone to walk through the future with him, someone he never has to lose.
