Title: Slayer Duties

Setting: Early Season Two, before Bad Eggs.
Summary: Patrolling late at night is a Slayer’s most important duty, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be enjoyable.

A/N: Triple drabble.
“If mom knew I was out this late, I’d be grounded so fast I’d probably break the sound barrier!”
Buffy did feel guilty sneaking around like this, slipping out her bedroom window in the middle of the night, but it wasn’t like she was living it up and partying. Not that she could explain that to her mom; the whole ‘I’m the Slayer’ thing was supposed to be a closely guarded secret, and too many people already knew.
There were plenty of nights she would have preferred to stay home, watch TV, pamper herself, but as the Slayer, she was supposed to be out and about, selflessly doing her duty, not wallowing in self-indulgence. Vampires didn’t keep regular office hours, so she had to patrol after dark, when they were active. If that meant making nightly forays without her mom’s knowledge, that was what she’d do. They may not be aware of it, but the people of Sunnydale were relying on her for their safety.
It wasn’t all bad. The late-night walks could be quite invigorating, the air cooler than in daytime, and being active after hours spent at a school desk made for a welcome change of pace. If she got to slay a vampire or two, so much the better; the more of them she dusted, the better.
And then, of course, there was Angel, her patrolling partner and love interest. If she spent a certain percentage of her patrol time making out with her hot vampire boyfriend, well, call that one of the perks of the job. A girl had to have SOME fun. It was important to find a balance between work and life.
“I should do a sweep of the other cemeteries…”
“I can do that later.”
“Okay.” Buffy surrendered to Angel’s kisses once more.
