FAKE Double Drabble: What Might Have Been
Jan. 9th, 2022 05:14 pmTitle: What Might Have Been
Fandom: FAKE
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Bikky, Ryo.
Rating: PG
Written For: Challenge 277: In Another Life at
drabble_weekly.
Spoilers/Setting: After Like Like Love.
Summary: Bikky knows he didn’t get where he is all by himself.
Disclaimer: I don’t own FAKE, or the characters. They belong to the wonderful Sanami Matoh.
A/N: Double drabble.
Listening to the crowd applauding, cheering, shouting his name, Bikky felt blessed. This was what he’d wanted for as long as he could remember, and though it had taken a lot of hard work to get here, playing pro basketball was worth all of it.
But he knew how lucky he’d been. It wasn’t just his own efforts that had gotten him where he was today, playing for one of the best teams in the NBA. If it hadn’t been for Ryo, he’d be living a whole other life now, growing up in foster care or a group home, probably flunking out of school, skipping classes to play ball on the streets instead of keeping his grades up and playing for the school team.
There would have been no scouts keeping an eye on him, no college scholarship, no future for him. By now, he’d probably be either working a dead-end job for minimum wage, living on the street, or in jail. Just one more young delinquent eking out a precarious living from petty crime until he’d gotten himself caught.
Ryo had taken him in even though he didn’t have to. Everything Bikky had today was thanks to his dad.
